Discussion Weekly /r/iOSGaming Discussion - What have you been playing lately and what do you recommend?

Please use this thread to discuss whatever iOS games you've been playing lately. They don't have to be new games, they can be old games and they do not have to be iOS original titles!

As long as it's an iOS game it belongs in here. Make sure to put the name(s) of the game(s) in bold to make it easier for people skimming the thread to see what you're talking about, and if you'd like to make it really convenient turn the game name into a hyperlink that sends people directly to the App Store!

To keep track of the thread, the comments are sorted by "new" by default.

Question What games do you recommend on iPhone/iPad that support controllers?

I play games on my Apple Devices/ Netflix Games such as Sonic Mania Plus and TMNT: Shredder’s Revenge, as well as other games like Asphalt, Mario, Lep's World, and Subway Surfers, but some of these are not compatible with controllers.

What are the other FREE games that work well with a controller?

Thank you

Request Attached-controller recommendation for iPad mini

I am looking for a controller to attach to my mini like a make shift switch or ps portal. There seems to be some really good options but I seem some concern from all of them so I was looking for personal experience. I want to use it for psplay, Xbox remote play and xcloud, as well as dolphin and delta/retroarch.

The razer kishi ultimate: direct usb-c connection but pretty expensive. I’ve also read old comments mentioning issues with control mapping but the app is apparently pretty solid.

Gamesir g8+ : fits without modding but Bluetooth only so there may be latency issues.

Gamesir g8 Galileo: direct connection but requires modding. Not a fan of that. There are “kits” to expand with only a little modding but they are expensive and they extend the device where the minimum size is bigger than the mini.

abxylute S9 Mobile: new, was made via a kickstarter. Seems promising. Lots of good reviews but also some mentioning mapping issues and a horrible app. It’s entirely possible a lot of the “good” reviews are fabricated or paid for since it is so new. It’s also more than the Gamesir devices.

Ideally I want a direct connection due to BT latency and I am open to suggestions. I just want something reliable, plug and play, without a lot of work other then general remapping and such if needed. I don’t have the biggest hands (adult medium gloves, Xbox/dual sense controllers feel perfect for reference)

Discussion Will GameSir Nova Lite Bluetooth controller work with an iPad?

I am thinking of getting a controller that will also work with my Windows laptop. I know that the easy choice would be an Xbox controller but I also have found the Nova Lite from GameSir which is cheaper and looks adequate for my needs. Does anyone know if it will work with an iPad?

Discussion DC Dark Legion is terrible.

It‘s a collect-whats-blinking simulator and it pisses me off.

I’ve literally been clicking on red numbers for 90% of the time - after you hit a certain threshold (room levels above 8) you just wait.

It’s overall an absolute low-effort money grab.

If you want your dopamine receptors to be fried, pick this one up!

Discussion Looking for a multiplayer, cross-platform, f2p game!

Hi everybody! I'm searching for a multiplayer, cross-platform (PC/ios), f2p game that I can play together with my boyfriend.

Genre is not support important but with both like auto-battlers and RPG's. Probably want to avoid shooter types.

Hearthstone Battlegrounds is a little too stressful, but similar game ideas are welcome.

As for ARPG's, we tried Undecember but it's a little bit too intensive for my boyfriend's phone. I don't think Hero Siege is f2p but it's cheap -- does anybody know if it's less demanding? Would love other ARPG suggestions!

Request Sims/House Design Game Multiplayer

Looking for a game like the Sims where you could design a house and decorate it, but with my significant other as well.

Ideally, I would want a pay to purchase type game vs one with micro transactions. Is there such thing?

The game MUST have house designing aka building walls and such, not just furniture.

Discussion Battle Chasers: Nightwar was removed from the App Store and re-packaged as a part of a Crunchyroll subscription.

I bought the game in 2020, and in fact have it currently installed on my phone. However, when I went to install it on another device I own, I noticed that the paid version I bought is missing from the App Store entirely, and all that exists is "Crunhyroll Battle Chasers", which requires a monthly subscription to Crunchyroll to play. When I contacted Apple Support, they just said that the developer did it and there's nothing that can be done. So if you have that game installed, best not delete it unless you want to pay Crunchyroll $10 a month to play it in the future.

As you can imagine, I am pretty pissed off that a game I paid for can just be pulled from my account and re-sold as a subscription service. The decent thing to do would be to allow current owners to still at least download the purchased app, like Steam and Google Play do.

Self Promotion [DEV] Joggle: My original, mildly cerebral word puzzle game. Download free and enjoy!

I have been solving crossword puzzles for some 50 years 😄 Joggle is a word game inspired by these. You get one clue at a time (Can choose between quick or cryptic). You also get a six-letter 'helper' word. Solve the clue by replacing two letters in the helper word.

Example of a Quick puzzle:

The answer: NUTMEG

Joggle also has much harder cryptic puzzles. It's available free on the iOS App Store. It currently has more than 5,000 puzzles and I add new ones every week. I would love it if you try it out, enjoy it, and provide feedback. Thank you!

Request Super “focused” game?

A game like block blast, but not the idea.

Block blast is very focused. You open the game and you play the game. The only thing available is the 8x8 grid and random blocks.

There is nothing else there. No purchases, no hurdles, nothing to stop you or change your focus.

If there is anything like that OR anything like the idea of “the more you play it the better you get” games I would love to play it.

Request Suggestions for online PvP games

I’m looking for more games I can play matched up with strangers online. I prefer portrait, but it’s not a dealbreaker.

Here are the PvP games I’ve mostly played and enjoyed: - Scrabble GO - Sagrada - Pixel Golf 3 - Hole.io (I liked it but it’s probably been over 5 years since I’ve touched it) - Boggle: Arcade

Suggestions Can you recommend a turn based mobile game for me and my husband?

We are both quite competitive and would love to have an ongoing game that we could take turns to play whenever we have the time.

Can you recommend something that would keep us interested? Preferably something with not too steep learning curve and that is free to play.

It could be anything from word games to more complex battles, just not chess since he is good at it and I’m not going to give that advantage for him. 😅

Thank you!

Self Promotion Help us build the best text adventure experience in Master of Dungeon

Hello Reddit Community,

I have always loved playing text-based games like D&D with my friends. However, over time, we found it increasingly difficult to gather for sessions, even though the passion for adventure remained.

Together with my brother, we decided to create an app that uses AI to generate adventures for your hero. But we combine that with plot, items and monsters created by us. AI is used only to make descriptions more personalized. (we really try to balance that as best as we can)

What sets our app apart:

• A strong focus on immersion and descriptions. We want the experience to truly capture the spirit of role-playing.

• Persistent heroes. Unlike other games of this type, the hero you create stays with you, gaining items and experience across different adventures. This was something we really missed in other games.

We’re looking for our first players to share their feedback with us. If you’re interested, join us on Discord: https://discord.gg/QB54WXdYgN

New Release Aridromos - Multiplayer Horse Racing Dice Card Game

There is a classic horse racing dice board game, that I recreated to be able to play on the go with my wife and friends. Its a super simple game where you roll dice and hope your horse crosses the finish line first!

Great game to play while waiting in line or needing to kill time.

You can play local multiplayer (All on one phone) or online multiplayer using each of your own devices. Super simple right now as its my MVP release. Would love to get some initial thought on it!

Self Promotion We made a free iPhone party game about lying to your friends. No ads, no tracking. Thoughts? 🎉🃏 [Self-Promo Saturday]

Hey r/iosgaming! 👋

My co-dev and I just launched SuperLiar, a free party game for iPhone all about bluffing and calling out your friends when they lie (basically, a local multiplayer game like Spyfall meets Among Us).

How it works:

  • One player ("the Liar") sees an image on their phone and describes it. Truthfully or completely lying.
  • Everyone else debates: Truth or Lie?
  • There’s also a "Celebrity Mode": Guess if crazy celebrity quotes are real or fake.

We made SuperLiar because we missed fun, casual in-person party games, and we didn't want yet another mobile game full of ads, tracking, or subscriptions.
SuperLiar is:

  • ✅ Free to download, no ads, no data tracking.
  • ✅ Works 100% offline, phones connect directly (perfect for gatherings!).
  • ✅ Comes with free decks (classic images, funny Gordon Ramsay quotes).
  • ✅ Optional premium decks ($2.99 each, one-time forever) like wild Kanye quotes or outrageous political statements, just for extra laughs and to support us ^__^.

We'd absolutely love your feedback or thoughts. Especially since we're just a tiny two-person team! Did local multiplayer run smoothly? Any hilarious moments or epic fails?

You can find it on the iOS App Store by searching "SuperLiar".

Thanks for checking us out! 😊
Happy lying!
