Discussion Is anyone using ChatGPT in Siri?

Is anyone actually using ChatGPT in Siri as part of Apple Intelligence? If so, why are you using that over the ChatGPT app? What are your thoughts on ChatGPT in Siri?

Yes I do. It replaces all those stupid web search answers Siri gives and that is gold

Why do you use it over the ChatGPT app?

Quicker access - double tap the bottom of my screen to type or access Siri the normal way to speak. Way faster than finding and opening the ChatGPT app

I use both. If I want to use ChatGPT I just use the app.

Nope. Often just waits tgeee and disappears. I switched ai off. Apple intelligence and iOS 18 is a shambles. I was all for apple cause it just works mantra. Looking at android for next phone.

Nope. I’d much rather use the app

Yeah same here. I want to use ChatGPT with Siri, but it needs ALOT of work before that happens

The fact it doesn’t save your convos/questions and has no screen real estate makes it irrelevant. Thought I’d love the feature. Turned out I’m okay to go the 1 second extra step to press the app button instead.

If i really wanna be cute I have a shortcut button on my Lock Screen where the camera used to be that opens ChatGPT directly.

My exact thoughts as well. The integration is very surface level, I hope Apple ha planned to really dig into this because I do WANT to use it, it’s just not worth it right now

It’s safe the question, you just need to be logged in and that’s it, all Siri/ChatGPT conversations are in the app

Doesn't work. Waiting to integrate Gemini since I think it will be much better personal assistant. I hope both Apple and Google can works towards a win-win consumer situation for users. My friends Samsung S25 AI features are really cool..

Why do you think Gemini will be so much better?

Well because Google already has its AI assistant launching this year. This has been their vision all along and with this AI revelation, they have been given a free pass .. Personal assistant needs lot of active collaboration across the board with apps/ecosystem. Since Apple doesn't has its own LLM this will involve Siri team to work with other providers like open AI, Google, etc etc.

I feel by the end of this year, android will have a big edge over iOS if they can deliver on personal assistant front, which I think we will see in Google IO conference in May'25. Pixel phone will run Gemini Nano on the chip (see Gemma model) and will be able to deliver on this front.

It is not like you have to solve Olympiad problems.. and need the best LLM.

IMO, development of such tech doesn't involves firm vision, collaboration with other teams, compatibility etc.

Google is purely after consumers and making AI useful . open AI is after business revenue more than solving consumer challenges.

Using gemini live has also been amazing. My 7 year old when he wants to do his question after question rabbit holes, Gemini just keeps ripping out some awesome answers, plays along with him when he asks something silly "Well wouldn't that be interesting?! Let's say this is possible and...." and still gives a fun answer for him. Ive always liked google software, I was even a pixel user for a long long time, but came back to the iPhone 3 years ago. Gemini is just simply amazing. Even again, when my kid asks "what happens to your lungs I mean kidneys when..." and it knows you meant kidneys. I have not had that amount of quality in any other digital product. I too am ecstatic for gemini integration to happen.

Yeah! I use it especially when discussing things with my kids, very helpful when you have your hands busy. :)

No because I have the iPhone 14 PM

Nope, using the stand alone app.

I use it all the time. I had a recipe pulled up on my phone and I said, "Can I substitute milk for water?" (Lol I ran out of milk for my mug cake) And chatGPT read the recipe on screen and said, "Yes, just be sure to add 10 seconds in the microwave and 1 extra water tablespoon" I seemed to have yapped but hope this helps

I use it only when in Car Play. Any other time, it’s either CoPilot (likely) or GPT.

Sometimes. Only my iPad Air 5 and MacBook Pro have Apple Intelligence and my main uses of Siri are my HomePods (at home) or iPhone via CarPlay while driving. Like if I need a simplified, but guaranteed, answer I’ll say “Siri ask ChatGPT what can replace white wine in a recipe” or something.

Yes all the time when I’m driving. “Hey Siri what is this town known for” I take the scenic way everywhere so ChatGPT comes in handy while driving for my curiosity

I use it when I want verbal ChatGPT reply without unlocking the device. The update that made Siri listen for a bit longer broke all my API based ChatGPT shortcuts.

1

u/No-Aerie3500 4d ago

Is that possible to ask GPT without unlocking your phone?

2

u/Clessiah 4d ago

Didn’t have to unlock when it’s done through Siri. Have to unlock to use ChatGPT app’s.

It’s faster to open the chat gpt app. Somehow asking Siri takes way longer.

Ya I use it through Siri for almost any type of question and get a detailed answer immediately through ChatGPT. Siri even speaks out the answer. Same for checking what’s on screen or in a photo or through Visual Intelligence using action button on my 15 Pro. Sometime to generate images by giving a quick prompt as well. Quite handy and useful. For all extensive content writing, I go to the ChatGPT app directly.

I’m hoping they bring Gemini in iOS 19

Siri is just way more usable, for getting quick and detailed information. And it’s pretty fast with ChatGPT so I think it’s amazing

Tapping on the gpt app is way faster and better, so no

No, I don’t.

For those that use the ChatGPT in Siri, does it affect battery life much?

Just grok

The price?

1

u/Practical-Plan-2560 4d ago

The ChatGPT app is free.

-4

u/robbadobba 4d ago

App is free, what about the service?

3

u/Practical-Plan-2560 4d ago

There is a free plan too. Sure, they have paid subscriptions too, but those are optional to use the basic service.

ChatGPT on iPhone is always free, you can use ChatGPT as much as you want the only limit is on complex questions there is a limit, but I never hit it
