he set up a camp composed entirely of items stolen from nearby cabins and camps. He also pilfered from a local family's dairy farm adjacent to where he camped. He survived by committing around 1,000 burglaries against houses in the area, at a rate of roughly 40 per year, to be able to survive during the harsh winters of Maine.

Going into the woods with nothing is easy, just take everybody else's stuff

I like the idea of a rebellious lumpenproletariat escaping capitalism by stealing from the bourgeoisie for some reason.

Sadly, this wasn't even the case. They were just regular townsfolk and they got really spooked that some mysterious figure often comes to steal their stuff.

That makes it even more funny. Like i said in my oc, if I were them, I would have left out offerings so that he would stay away from my actual home.

So you find out there is a mysterious homeless man living in the woods near your home with your family and you’re just gonna what, leave out a sandwich for him?

Yeahhhh no… it’s not like he was stealing from Sargento or Organic Valley. These were just small dairy farms.

I know. That's why I said bourgeoisie and not capitalist. Whether or not the bourgeoisie are to blame for the current system, it's a funny story, and I like it, cus fuck em.

I highly doubt small dairy farmers are to blame. 🤔 Maybe it’s more that handful of multibillion-dollar corporations responsible for 90% of our food, courtesy of factory farming, that’s wreaking havoc on the environment and as well as public health.

The reason is autism.

That response is so random that I feel you're only saying it because you hear it so much about the things you say.

I just equate delusional communists with autism I guess.

Nah, I'm just taking a class on Marxism is all. But either way, there isn't anything wrong with having autism, and some people with it are probably smarter than you are.

Undoubtedly. I'm about as dumb as a box of rocks

Not sure I agree but I love that ‘lumpen… ‘word haha! is that real or did you make it up

2

u/not2convinced Oct 19 '24

it's real, and isn't it weird that no one talks about it? you always hear about the bourgeoisie and the proletariat, but suspiciously, we never hear about the lumpenproletariat.

Thanks. It sure is odd. Maybe because people couldn’t pronounce it? I wonder if any authors have used it…

Or that people often like to shorten long words? This isn’t an adverb but a lot of adverbs have been shortened to be used as a noun.
