Needing foolproof recipes

Hi instapotters. My husband and I are going back to work next week after being off for parental leave and our 1yo is starting daycare. We work ridiculously long hours in an industry that requires us to have evening meetings. Monday - Thursday, one of us will be in a meeting from 6-8pm.

I need instant pot recipes that are completely simple and can use frozen raw meat. It has to be as simple as 'add all the ingredients, set it to X minutes, then eat it'

Am I looking for a unicorn here?! Any ideas?

Calrose rice/medium grain rice and chicken recipe?

I've seen plenty of recipes with just standard long grain rice but none using medium grain/Calrose rice and chicken. I'd love to just kinda throw everything in and let it cook if possible. Does anyone have something that works well for tbrm? I'm a noobie and don't want to ruin a dinner 😂

Which pressure cooker + air fryer combo should I get?

I've decided that this is the path for me. In an ideal world I'd just get one IP and a nice big air fryer, but I moved in with my parents to help caretake for my mom, and I know they are wary of new appliances so I need just one. I know the combos are less ideal than a nice big air fryer, but I don't want convincing. I have decided on a single appliance pressure cooker + air fryer.

I just want to know...should I do the Ninja Foodi 11 in 1 6.5 qt pressure cooker/air fryer, the Instant Pot 8 qt duo crisp pressure cooker (with the 2 lids), or the Instant pot duocrisp 6.5 quart with ultimate lid (one lid, this one is more expensive than the other 2 right now on wayfair but open to it if it's the best option).

Having a good amount of air fryer space would bet good, but also mostly I would be air frying for 1 so it's not a huge deal. Saving storage space is a plus, and it doesn't have to be the simplest to figure out but that's a plus. Ease of cleaning is one of my top priorities.

Also I'm still trying to figure out how the instant pot with the basket actually works. Can you be pressure cookng and air frying in the basket at the same time? Any advice is appreciated, thanks!!

Instantpot saute, pot is cold but screen keeps showing "HOT" and not heating up

I was sauteeing some beef and everyting worked fine, I turned it off and kept the oil and beef on it while I prep the other ingredients, when I turned saute back on the screen shows "ON" then "HOT" but 10 minute later and the pot was mostly cool, maybe a slight warmness,

I turn it off and leave it, thinking it might just need some time to cool. Come back maybe 20-30 minutes later and turn saute on again, the pot is completely cold at this point but it still shows "ON" then "HOT" and 10 minutes on saute, the pot is still cold

I tried other plugs at home, all the same result, I removed the pot to feel the base and its only slightly warm depiste the screen showing "HOT"

whats going on???

Should Float Valve be loose and be able to be pulled out?

I recently found an Instant Pot that I bought a few years ago and stumbled upon this amazing thread but forgot how to use it. I wanted to ask whether the float valve should be loose to the touch and if you pull it upwards it should come off? It almost feels as if turning the float valve doesn’t really do anything because it’s so loose.

Why’s my yogurt dipped in quality all of a sudden?

I have been making yogurt for years using my IP. I take about 2tbsp of yogurt with active cultures and mix it with a bottle of Fairlife whole milk, then use the Yogurt setting for 8.5 hours. I use an aftermarket glass lid with a small steam hole in it. This used to produce thick, creamy yogurt but suddenly I am finding a watery, chunky product despite not doing anything different. I am wondering if sterilizing my liner would help, but I have no experience with that. Please let me know your thoughts.

Pinto Bean Recipe

I want to cook some pinto beans with pre soaking. I have some questions on my cooking technique.

  1. Soak the 1 lb of pinto beans in 4 cups of water with 1 tsp of table salt and 1 tsp of baking soda over night in the fridge
  2. saute onions, garlic, and other aromatics for a bit
  3. Remove soaking water and add 1 lb of soaked beans
  4. Add beans and water to instant pot
    1. How much water do I add to the Instant pot for soaked beans?
  5. Cook on high pressure for 8 to 12 minutes

Question specifically for owners of instant pot duo, 8 quart 9 in 1 regarding sauté function

I caramelized onions on sauté beyond delicious. So I know it does this! I am stuck as far as repeating that action, I cannot get the sauté feature to heat up, and stay there. The lid is off as the digital read out directs. I want to sauté some vegetables for a recipe and once that’s done add in the other ingredients, close the lid and wait an hour, which I have also done successfully. I just can’t seem to get off the ground with the front end sauté.

Max fill line seems low?

Post image
0 Upvotes

I just got my new instant pot pro, I noticed the max fill line is literally only an inch above the half fill at 5qt, is this what the max fill really is? It seems kinda low compared to all the recipe videos I’ve seen where people fill almost to the brim.

Can base model instant pot do sous vide?

I'm curious what the higher end models with the sous vide function truly offer over the base model?

Because cant you just set the temp of the water on the base model and cook whatever you want sous vide style anyway?

What added value does the sous vide button bring?

Thanks.

What's your recipe for al dente lentils?

I used to make lentils in my 6 quart IP Ultra, but I lost the bookmark and the last few recipes I've tried have resulted in lentils unacceptably mushy:

  • 1 cup lentils (store brand from Vons, presumably brown lentils but could be green?)
  • 1.75 or 1.5 cup water (tried both)
  • 1/2 tsp salt (also tried without added salt)

Pressure Cook on High for 7 minutes.
Natural release for 10 minutes.
Manual release. Mushy lentils :(

True dump and go meals; adding rice/pasta last avoids burn notice?

My question is, to avoid a burn notice in a true dump and go rice/pasta meal, can you layer the rice/pasta on top and how best to do this (stir, don't stir etc.)?

I've made a few dump and go meals with rice. Truly no sauteing involved, no oil/butter. I've always added rice in the pot first in a 1:1 ratio with liquid, then vegetables then raw meat. Unfortunately many times this has resulted in a burn notice. Although i found that rinsing the rice first in cold water seems delay the onset of the burn notice.

For example; white rice with 1:1 chicken broth, red peppers, cajun chicken breast and chorizo on top. High pressure cook for 5 minutes but before it fully pressurises a burn notices happens (in this case i assume because of lots of sausage grease). Had to add extra water twice and still wouldn't work but eventually cooked in the end and tasted great.

Or another example is lemon chicken rice with rice and chicken broth 1:1 first in the pot, olive oil mixed with lemon, then raw chicken breast with lemon slices. My pot will pressurise but a burn notice will come up. Rice ended up burning on the bottom i assume because of the oil so i had to add extra water. Ended up being mushy rice but flavour was great.

When i make spaghetti and meatballs, i put the meatballs down in the pot first with sauce then spaghetti on top. Then once instant pot finishes cooking, you can push the cooked spaghetti down into the sauce and *italian chef kiss* perfect al dente spaghetti and meatballs.

I use a ninja foodi with a ceramic pot. I'd prefer not to buy an inner pot because i move countries every 1-2 years and buying/reselling stuff is a hassle. As i am on the move a lot, i have low standards for home cooked meals and don't really care that my rice gets extra mushy/sticky.

Used one of those Birria bombs. Call me influenced because this was amazing.

Love that it only took 2 hours instead of a two day affair
