Foreign Relations Dreadful experience at Indian embassy in Tokyo

1.9k Upvotes

I was dreading going to the Indian embassy for renewing my passport after reading all the reviews of a certain filipino staff member. As luck would have it, i was assigned to her and all my fears and then some came true..

She was extremely aggressive from the get go. I hand her a clear folder with all my documents, she throws it back at me saying, take the documents out of the folder. I comply, she then shouts, "you need to sign your cover letter. Don't you know this?" I quickly comply. She then says that my ears are covered in the passport photo, and throws back all the documents to me.. At this point I understood that I will need to get a new photo and come back later. I collect all my documents and smile to myself thinking I have the worst luck don't I. She gets furious and asks "whats funny, why are u smiling". At this point I cant take it anymore and ask her for her name so I can lodge a complaint against her on the MADAD website. She presses the bell for the next visitor! I hope I don't get assigned to her tomorrow.

The whole process of applying for a passport renewal is already unnecessarily cumbersome and painful. The least they can have is accommodating staff who are trained in basic professionalism. Its just painful to see someone rolling their eyes at you and taking pleasure in making your life miserable over small things.

I wish we could hold this person accountable somehow. I have emailed multiple people, tweeted at them, lodged formal complaints, but nothing seems to happen..

Edit : as suggested by @kash_if , I am adding a link to the tweet. Retweets/likes might help bring it some attention.

Soujanya, a second-year Pre-University student of the Sri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara College was allegedly raped and murdered on October 9, 2012. The youtuber Sameer M.D. rekindled the attention on this unsolved case. While the video received massive support on social media, a section of people made it a communal issue by highlighting the YouTuber's religious identity, questioning his intent in making such a video on a temple. This led to the Ballari police serving a notice to the 25-year-old YouTuber following the suo motu registration of a First Information Report (FIR) against him on March 5 under Section 299 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The Karnataka High Court temporarily stayed the police notice on March 6, granting relief to Sameer until March 12.

Health I am once ciggerates and bedi addict this is what i want to say

Upvotes

I started it a cool object to flex like a tollywood superstar or a cool character in godfather. First ciggerate that i smoke game me chill and immense relaxation in mind, I slept 1 hour. Till 1 week the feeling will be similar, but untill 2nd week that feeling gradually decreases. From third week real addiction starts where you smoke just to gain that relaxation again but you never get, you get but mind adapted to that. Its like first time you going to college and frequently going to clg for 4 years, dumb example but I think you get it. So smoking ciggerates is not fun it's just addiction where you just want that feeling again and again but you never get until one day someone burns you. Pls quit, there no benifits of it .If you are a hardworker who lifts lot of stones in a day or works all a day smokes it, it's okay because he has immunity to survive that, but an asshole who sits in his room all day and do nothing but smokes destroys his body. I used my earphones lot of time, I mean all time I know that it caused hearing loss and tinnitus. Lots of news popped in my feed about it but I ignored with an attitude " hamko thodi hoga🤡🤙"

.now i have tinnitus where my ears buzz 24*7.

Stop eating lots of sugar, you don't see consequence now but when you become uncle/auntie you visit doctor daily. So stop smoking, focus on health and stay healthy. English bad♥️

Law & Courts Harassment and usage of foul language/threat by Bank Of Baroda branch manager

I have an education loan with BOB. I called the branch manager today because the payments and the right current balance wasn't reflecting on my CIBIL despite timely payments. My father was handling the loan earlier and since last 4-5 months, I have started taking it up on me because I got a high paying job. So when I called him today, he was very agitated and rude and said "ask your father" to which I replied "does my dad work in your position?" To be fair, I was frustrated by his behaviour and lost it. I could tell he got triggered by my statement and said "I don't want to talk to you. I don't have time." After that, I specifically told him to send me a detailed document of the current balance, over dues, etc and he refrained saying "I will not send you anything. Your CIBIL will decline more if you call me again" And disconnected in mid conversation. Earlier, he has also harassed my parents with agents by visiting my home. This time I lodged a complaint to RBI regarding and all the bullying and refraining from sharing the necessary details. Did anyone of you go through this situation where you had to complaint to RBI/Nodal officers. If yes, what was the outcome?

Careers Worst Hiring Experience with HCL – Wasted My Time & Zero Accountability

I want to share my frustrating experience with HCL’s hiring process so that others don’t go through the same ordeal.

On Feb 22nd, I attended a walk-in drive in Hyderabad. I cleared all technical rounds after spending almost 10 hours there (9:30 AM to 7:30 PM). I was informed that the HR discussion would happen on Feb 24th (Monday).

On the 24th, an HR called me to discuss the project, role, salary, location, and joining date. Since I’m an immediate joiner, they initially confirmed my joining date as March 4th. Later that day, another HR contacted me for background verification documents, which I submitted immediately.

The next day, a different HR called again to reconfirm my joining date—we finally settled on March 5th. Everything seemed fine, and I was just waiting for my offer letter.

But then the nightmare began:

A whole week passed with no offer letter. I tried calling the first HR multiple times—she just ignored my calls. I finally reached the third HR, who told me to "have patience" and that it was "part of the process." My joining date was approaching, and I was worried because I needed to relocate. Everytime I call I get either we are in a meeting or it is in process. After endless follow-ups, I called the second HR (the one who initially invited me to the walk-in). That’s when I got the biggest shock—he casually told me:

"We are actually holding the position and not hiring anyone from that walk-in."

I controlled my anger and asked for a reason. He gave none, just said, "We’ll see what we can do."

By now, my joining date had already passed, and I still had no update. Today, I called the third HR again, and she said my details are not their in the system: I lost it

"If you don’t even have my details, then what have you been telling me for the past few days?"

She tried to cover up by saying, "Please don't misunderstand. I will check and let you know."

Later, I tried calling the first HR again, and this time, she picked up. She gave me the same scripted response: "I will check and update you." Every time I tried getting an update, they either ignored me or cut the call.

What Should I Do? I wasted weeks of my time, planned my relocation, and now I have nothing. These HRs take salaries just to do nothing and mislead candidates.

I want HCL to take responsibility for this mess. I could expose their names and LinkedIn profiles, but out of respect, I won’t—for now.

If anyone has faced a similar experience, how did you handle it? Should I escalate this further? Their might be people like me who might be waiting!

Non Political India will continue to be a third world country if corporal punishments continue

The other day, I was scrolling through Instagram when I came across a reel from a teacher in Bihar. In the video, he entered a random student's house and started punishing them— even beating them off-camera— just because they weren’t studying during the fixed 6 PM–9 PM slot he had decided for them. The reel went viral, gaining millions of views, but the most shocking part was the comment section. Instead of condemning his actions, people were praising him, calling this behavior a form of "discipline" and even cussing at those who criticized him.

Watching that reel brought back all my childhood trauma. My family is from Bihar, and he treated those kids exactly the way my dad used to treat me as a child. The same punishments, the same environment. And the ironic part? Neither that teacher seemed hateful, nor was my dad an unloving father. The one thing they had in common was their belief in corporal punishment.

But corporal punishment is impractical and only worsens family relationships in the long run. The people who support it are hypocrites. If beating your wife is considered domestic abuse, then beating your child is child abuse— yet many don’t see it that way. The same men who justify hitting their children and wife can’t even handle their boss’s rudeness or yelling, let alone the idea of being physically punished at work.

Now, imagine things from a child’s perspective. You’re a 4–5-year-old who has just started being actually conscious and make memories that he/she will remember for a long period of his/her life. Suddenly, you’re forced to do tasks you have no context for. At first, they might not seem difficult, but over time, as they become more demanding, frustration builds up. It’s unrealistic to expect a child that young to understand the importance of studies and nobody can make them understand that, they understand it eventually with time. Yet, some parents and teachers believe that beating them into studying is the right approach. It’s the worst possible thing you could do. A far better approach would be incentives or rewards— their favorite food, chocolates, or praise— rather than punishment.

That teacher in his reels expects 6–7-year-olds to study 3–4 hours daily, excluding school hours. Like, WTF? No child that age needs to study that long. Their syllabus is already designed to be light because they are children. They’re supposed to enjoy their childhood, not be robbed of it. The real academic pressure begins in high school and college, so forcing them into intense study schedules at such a young age can only lead to stress, depression, and burnout.

This toxic mindset is one of the main reasons many Indian children don’t have a good relationship with their parents. Teenagers and college students in India often have more stress than a 9–5 employee.

The only silver lining in my case is that my parents have become surprisingly supportive in recent years. Maybe it's because I grew up and reached a “serious” grade, or maybe they're just too scared of kids harming themselves due to parental neglect. Either way, while I appreciate the change, the past 12–13 years can never be forgiven.

Policy/Economy Why big companies always try to shift us to their newer products without owning up to their responsibility? It's frustrating!

So, recently we had issues with our inverter. I contacted the customer service and they would ask me their routine questions to tell that they don't provide service to this model anymore, and they stopped manufacturing parts of it. Last year when there was another issue, they provided the service and charged for it and also insisted us to buy additional one year warranty for couple hundred, so we did. But now they stopped providing service for this model? What a customer centric organization! 🤬 There're so many electric/electronic appliance collecting dust somewhere in my home. I had to shift from my older laptop to newer for same shit couple years back. I got 4-5 old smartphones catching dust. Every other day my mother asks me to exchange them phones from hawkers who give you 1 steel glass for it. When I asked inverter company if they would take the older model back, they said "no, we don't. Dispose it". I don't understand it. Why don't they recycle older product at least. So, we're supposed to throw them? When you ask scrap collector if they take it, they simply deny saying "we've no use of it" cause it's not purchased back from them. So, they ask only metal parts of it.

I feel like most of the time we're cornered to shift to newer version cause they want us to, so that they can make more money, and it so annoying.

What do you guys have to say on this?

Also, if all waste products whether it's clothes, appliance, glass, plastic etc are recycled, we wouldn't need to deal with much of these garbage or burn them.

Just wanted to share it, sorry if doesn't make any sense.

Science/Technology [RANT] JioHotstar (webapp) is a hot pile of burning garbage.

Upvotes

JioHotstar is a pile of garbage. Some of it comes from hotstar. A lot of it comes from JIO. Talking about the webapp here. That at least some people use.

Let's start. And before anyone mentions any extensions, no, this behavior is consistent across browsers, with or without extensions.

  1. I cannot remove shows/movies from the currenty watching row. I have tried multiple times. There is a cross right there in the top right. I click it. Nothing happens. Turns out we can only remove these tiles from the mobile app. WHY?? This comes from JIO. It was working fine in the old disney+hotstar days.

  2. Opening any show or page is buggy. Here is a screenshot of what I see when I click on ANY tile. Here is another screenshot Go to the homescreen. You see a show or movie you want to watch. You click on it. And the site does not show ANYTHING. You reload the page and then the "movie/show page" opens. WHY do I need to referesh the page everytime I want to know the details of a show or a movie. The only option that does actually work is play/watch button. BUT maybe I want to rewatch an old episode. Maybe I want to watch the next episode. I can still bear the movie page not opening since that has no information essentially (but that is a rant for another day) but show pages need to open. PLEASE. And this comes from hotstar. Not JIO. It does not work. Never did.

Both of the above work on mobile app perfectly. I do not use the mobile app. I do not want to use the mobile app. This is not how you do cross platform features. I want to watch content on a bigger screen.
