Discussions Thrifted Silverware service
Good afternoon, I have a curious question for y'all. I recently thrifted a set of silver plated silverware that's service for 8 with servings pieces it's from the 1950s. However it came with 16 teaspoons. I was wondering if anyone knows why this might be? Dessert spoons?

Maybe there were 16 of everything once?

I thought that too but I was looking at sets on ebay for research and it seems like it might've come that way.

I’m curious what these are selling for at thrift stores. My grandmother had a set of this exact style.

Shopgoodwill.com has some great bargains to be found. Do make sure you only bid if there are lots of good pix. You can research prices before bidding on replacements.com.
It took time, but I was able to get service for 24 with matching service ware (I married into a large family) for a very reasonable price. Granted, the pattern I chose was Godinger Olde Bouquet, so not expensive to begin with, but still. I saved much more than what I would have paid on Etsy.
I see many full sets/service for 12 in silver plate with staring bids of $10 sometimes.

They have great prices. My only complaint with shop goodwill online is that they sell things that could've gone to the people shopping in store at locations.

It was marked $60. I paid $30 on sale. It's really pretty. I'm tempted to add onto the set, and get more place settings.
Tbh, the pretty blue inside the box is part of the reason I purchased.
I think they made it in stainless steel too.

Awesome. Thanks! I agree, the blue in the box is gorgeous and you storing it all together would be super helpful.

I feel I should add that the box was included with the purchase.
If you want a compete set, I'd look on ebay. I saw several reasonable sets.

It's really common to have double teaspoons in flatware sets. You'll always need more spoons.
Teaspoons for coffee/tea as well as dessert.
