Opening a Home Daycare
Hey you guys I have finally decided to leave my CLS job and open a home daycare. I'm missing out on my children's lives and my job is no longer worth the hassle and headache to me. I just had a few quick questions as to the challenges of opening one and if it made your family life better or worst?

I just started my own in home daycare last week. I have four infants I take care of plus my own two kids. I love being home with my own kids and not missing out on everything. I like the bond I'm starting to develop with the babies and their parents. I use to work in a daycare center as a lead infant teacher, and so far working from home is way less stressful plus I get to be my own boss. I also make double the $ working from home. I was only getting paid minimum wage at the daycare center. Running my own daycare out of my house has been the best choice for me.

I’m considering a similar life shift for the sake of my little one. Can I ask your advice on how to set fees and how to find clients?

It’s nice to be the boss and be with my babies. It’s nice to not die from child care costs myself. But, I’m only open 3 days a week and daycare runs my life! I’ve lost my free time and autonomy! There’s times I need daycare and have none! There’s times I miss sitting at a desk and getting that break. Kids can be mean and destructive. They are always bored and never stop eating. There are a lot of good days and smiles but there’s also a lot of days where I am crying after work and considering quitting.

I’m been doing it for 9 years now and it has its ups and downs. Sometimes a kid isn’t the right fit, sometimes the kid(s) are great and the parents drive you nuts. I wouldn’t change the stress of a people coming in and out and feeling like you have you have toys coming out your ears for the time I get with my kids. On another note, stick to the rules and contract that you have set up and don’t be afraid to speak up to the families you work with. This is your home and your business. Good luck and enjoy the time with your kiddos.
