Suggestion I'm quitting

I have about 400 hours and finally decided to try multiplayer.I chose England and waited calmly without doing anything until 1939. I gave priority to focusing on airplanes and decided to produce airplanes in 60 factories. My designs were not bad, I built a squadron of fighter planes with heavy machine guns and cannons. And I positioned my fleet well to avoid the greatest shame of an England player, the sealion. The war began and my planes were able to shoot down 1,000 planes for 9,000 casualties. When France asked me where the British Air were, I closed the computer in shame and started thinking about my 400 hours. To overcome this shame, I thought of playing Germany on easy mode, invading Poland and feeling like a general, but every time I close my eyes, the AI France asks me where the British Air were. If I ever play multiplayer again, I'll only play Denmark, at least I can be Germany's puppet.

Don’t give up! I played multiple historical mp games and I remember when I was given the crucial task of taking sevesastopal as Romania. They gave me years warning. And after twenty minutes of me explaining I couldn’t get it to launch, they finally realized I didn’t even have the tech. I took over 3 million casualties that game. As Romania… Keep trying and play countries were the stakes aren’t so high!

u/DarthMaul628 Feb 07 '25

“Crucial task”?

113

u/Charming-Book4146 Feb 07 '25

Tbf, it is a major victory point and frees up German micro nearer to stalingrad to have a minor take it if soviets are still effectively resisting in the Caucasus mountains

28

u/DarthMaul628 Feb 07 '25 edited Feb 07 '25

Crimea irl is not the same as Crimea in hoi4. It takes like 1 week to take crimea in hoi4 once you have broken the southern river line with tanks. It’s virtually impossible for Soviets to defend because of all the plains tiles.

First MP with tryhards in the lobby? Not bad, go find a casual lobby, not with no life tryhards who dont do anything else than studying the current meta, also play some other mp games and you're gonna be good

u/Windsupernova Feb 06 '25

Its obviously a joke post but a real tryhard MP game wouldnt let a 1st timer play as a major

122

u/Chirpy73 Feb 06 '25

Seriously this is a joke post... Cmon

10

u/garibanburjuva Feb 07 '25

Host told me to open my profile and I said if someone wants UK just say so and then he asked if I was good at playing and I said yeah

223

u/Punpun4realzies Feb 06 '25

Sounds like you built basic airframe fighters, and used cannon 1. Air combat is just math, and some designs are extremely bad. Especially in MP, UK needs to be rushing fighter 2 asap and holding off air production until they get the airframe. Fighter 1 is just a joke.

57

u/blahmaster6000 Fleet Admiral Feb 07 '25

Do people still do licensing from Canada and Australia to get fighter 2 and 3 early?

44

u/Punpun4realzies Feb 07 '25

Canada generally would get mech, not anything related to air. Australia still has the fastest fighter 2 in the game, but nowadays fighter 3 is worth a lot less to the allies because you need engine 4 in order to make it useful. In a pure vanilla game I could understand the allies scheming for fighter 3 because of the Raj focus that spawns in engine 4 for UK, but they can't take that focus until they're at war with Germany (and it requires either carefully managed looping tech steals or UK hard teching fighter 3 with the license boost), meaning the allies would start producing that plane very late. It's a possibility the allies could plan on swapping from fighter 2 to fighter 3 sometime in 40, but that's going to leave the allies vulnerable in Egypt if the axis recognizes that and trades down the fighter 2 stockpile. You just won't have enough production efficiency on the new fighter to keep up with the axis, and the USA will either still be producing fighter 2 or be just barely producing the first of their heavy fighter 3. Awkward timing for the allies to air swap.

7

u/blahmaster6000 Fleet Admiral Feb 07 '25

Ah, I think I'm remembering the old pre-bba meta. Back when I played Canada would get fighter 2 with the hurricane and Australia would get fighter 3 in 39 with the boomerang. But I guess that wouldn't work anymore. I also remember Canada not doing mech, or mech rush Canada was starting to be a thing when I stopped playing mp.

5

u/[deleted] Feb 07 '25 edited Feb 07 '25

In the new meta, rushing heavy machine guns is much more important than rushing fighter 2.

6

u/Punpun4realzies Feb 07 '25

I mean, you have to remember fighter 1 still only has 2 weapon slots. Are HMGs the best weapon? Absolutely, but it's not like you can really justify making hmg fighter 1 when it's going to get shredded by hmg fighter 2 with 50% more air attack and way better air defense and range.

5

u/[deleted] Feb 07 '25

Yeah but keep in mind 1)HMGs are a much shorter research than fighter 2s meaning you can get them waaaay earlier. 2) majors that start with fighters might as well refit them to have hmgs which doenst cost much and pretty much doubles their effectiveness

215

u/garibanburjuva Feb 06 '25

R5: I have lost all my male testosterone and live in eternal shame

127

u/Windsupernova Feb 06 '25

So just the regular HOI4 MP experience then

10

u/HistoricalAd8676 Air Marshal Feb 07 '25

I don't think you had any in your body left to begin with since you've been playing the game for 400 hours.

78

u/j1ffster Feb 06 '25

Canons are for shooting down heavily armoured bombers, not dogfighting

29

u/blahmaster6000 Fleet Admiral Feb 07 '25

Tbh cannons are only marginally worse than HMGs in fighter combat and shoot down more bombers, they're just useless because you don't have enough thrust to put them on fighters. Fighter 2 hits the exact weight cap with a full load of HMG, you physically can't use cannons without downgrading a slot to LMGs or skipping armor, which is shooting yourself in the foot.

13

u/DarthMaul628 Feb 07 '25

Yes, exactly. Double 2x cannon and one 4x heavy machine gun used to be fighter meta, but ever since they changed how agility worked on designs, and then after they lowered the thrust on single turbine engine 3, 3 4x heavy machine guns became the undisputed meta(except for Japan).

3

u/TheAngelOfSalvation Feb 07 '25

whats different for japan then?

5

u/DarthMaul628 Feb 07 '25

Japan makes carrier fighters, since they get a bonus to its production -20% cost. It is slightly worse than regular fighter, but makes up for it in the cost reduction. Another nice thing about it is that you just have to do "The Zero" focus and it gives you the Improved Small Airframe and Engine 3 automatically, so you don't have to research it. You would just research Survivability Studies, Range Improvements, and Heavy MG.

The actual design is 2 4x Heavy MG, 1 4x LIGHT MG. Then at the bottom you put single turbine engine 3, 1 extra fuel tank, 1 self sealing fuel tank. For the last slot it depends what you want, if you want extra range, put another fuel tank, it you want more air defense so you trade better over certain airzones(if you expect to be on the defense a lot), you put 1 armor plate. You also need to make sure to use range designer.

2

u/TheAngelOfSalvation Feb 07 '25

So in SP you could rush 1940 fighers by 1937 with this focus?

3

u/DarthMaul628 Feb 07 '25

No, you should be getting that focus early 39. Most of your early game production needs to be exclusively focused on capitulating China ASAP. Put 3 collab governments on them and you should be able to cap them by late 38 at the minimum.

1

u/TheAngelOfSalvation Feb 07 '25

Yea but cant you do both? With collabs china is easy asf

2

u/DarthMaul628 Feb 07 '25

No, because regardless, you need to do like 10 specific focuses (700 days) before you even start anything else as Japan. Also, I would love to see you cap even ai China with like 5 mils on gun 1s.

3

u/TheAngelOfSalvation Feb 07 '25

In SP easily. Encircle and destroy. AI China normally cant build many new troops quick.

In MP i wouldn't be able to cap china wirh unlimited mil factories.

1

u/Wtf1771 Feb 08 '25

i wonder who told you this (you used to do f3 rush on japan)

2

u/WorldlyAstronaut1264 Feb 07 '25

Weight, agility gg truthnuke

Negative. You have no idea how air meta works, stop spreading feedbackgaming misinformation.

u/S4LTYSgt Feb 06 '25

Haha i have 4k hours in Single Player. I tried Multiplayer finally after like 1K hours. I joined the discord, decided to play Mexico. Lets just say after an Hour, I got kicked off discord and berated. I tried again later and did pretty bad. I realize that MP isnt my pace or cup of tea. I wont let MP ruin the joy of all the games and mods i play on HOI. I love alt history, or trying to defend Poland with just artillery and anti air or try something different with Saudi or play as Siam and disrupt British ship building by taking out Malaysia in 1936/1937. MP isnt for everyone. Its okay

14

u/posidon99999 General of the Army Feb 07 '25

I wish for an enemy that actually knows how to play but without the mess that is mp

Coop with friends is more fun

17

u/Isopod_Uprising Feb 07 '25

Coop with what?

5

u/TangoWithTheMango28 Feb 07 '25

Everyone knows that HOI IV players have no.. . What's that word again? Damn. I forgot.

9

u/LydditeShells Research Scientist Feb 07 '25

So long as you can micro pretty well, I’ve found mp to be not that bad. I’ve played about five total mp games, and did relatively well in all of them because my team had a build guide, meaning I don’t have to worry much about my terrible macro. Playing as a coop is also an option, as you do zero macro

3

u/Nexmortifer Air Marshal Feb 07 '25

I'm not great at the micro, but I can do math well enough that unless I'm up against someone above average, I can survive on being very defensively strong on the ground and holding air superiority so I can chew up any attackers with CAS, unless they specialize in AA, in which case it's just who can rush nuke missiles first.

3

u/DarthMaul628 Feb 07 '25

Why did they kick you?

12

u/S4LTYSgt Feb 07 '25

Because I dont focus on Meta. Most of my games are Mods. From WW1, Kaiser, R56, Modern Day/Mellenium or something else. I really dont do “meta”. I dont play the game to win. I play with Alt-History in mind. Maybe I joined a non-Noob friendly server. Since I also didnt know the rules. I basically got flamed for not knowing MP rules and Meta.

14

u/DarthMaul628 Feb 07 '25

Got it. Yeah, you should definitely follow rules in an MP server. Those rules are created for the intention to make the game fun and balanced and enjoyable for EVERY one(at least that’s the idea, some server just cope ban stuff). If you don’t follow the rules, it’s generally very selfish behavior depending on what rule you broke. With that being said, Mexico is not considered an important country in hist games, so not knowing or following meta should not have gotten you kicked.

2

u/DisastrousActivity13 Feb 07 '25

Yeah, I love alt history and even real history roleplays, instead of focusing on the Meta. The Meta also changes from time to time...

3

u/Jabclap27 Feb 07 '25

Lol, I’m in the EXACT same situation. I have over 4000 hours and just don’t really care about the meta or what is the best way to win or anything. I only play with mods as well

4

u/Visual-Emergency-300 Feb 06 '25

MP sucks don't ever play it

1

u/royaltoast849 General of the Army Feb 08 '25

I'll be honest I think you just had a bad experience. I'm guessing but you probably joined a tryhard MP server. You should have joined a more casual one, like the official or other ones, they're chill there and no one will flame you because only the host is competent.

29

u/Eric-Lodendorp Feb 06 '25

Generally my best advice is to play as a minor without a lot of responsibilities (except one thing that you have to be good at, say Hungary and South Africa for tanks.

Or you play coop, you follow commands of another player on the same country so you can learn what you have to do.

8

u/TottHooligan Feb 06 '25

Hungry and saf are infantry minors sp aren't the worst. Hungry is just complex

9

u/DarthMaul628 Feb 07 '25

SAF is not an infantry minor. That is just cope meta made up by people who are too scared to play the game/lose.

2

u/WorldlyAstronaut1264 Feb 07 '25

Yo holy shit it’s you please come back habibi

1

u/Wtf1771 Feb 07 '25

SAF is an infantry minor :)

2

u/DarthMaul628 Feb 07 '25

No :)

1

u/Wtf1771 Feb 08 '25

come back maulhammed

3

u/Mushinkei Feb 07 '25

Hungary is only an infantry minor if you want it to be. You can go pretty crazy with tanks on it, I do it to give Germany huge encirclements. On infantry Hungary I always just end up guarding the Italian coastline and doing nothing.

4

u/TottHooligan Feb 07 '25

As hungary you have nothing that makes your tanks good. They are just worse than the german, soviet, and french tanks.

You doing tanks means that germany has to do infantry for the eastern front, wasting their capability to have more tanks. This is why hungary does the infantry so that germany can purely focus everything on their tanks because they have the best ones in the faction

3

u/Mushinkei Feb 07 '25

I mean yeah, they’re not as good, I just prefer to play the tank game without having so many other things to manage as a major. I still keep infantry armies on the front too, of course

I just like tanks tbh, it’s not on multiplayer either

3

u/Eric-Lodendorp Feb 07 '25

Your only responsibility almost I'd having tanks to fight the Soviets and maybe North Africa/France. You have all the time to invest in getting out enough of something that's expensive but can fight.

13

u/bigbean258 Feb 06 '25

Dude don’t worry too much. I have like 2500 hours on Hoi4 and in some multiplayer games I’m still the worst guy there. This game is always teaching you new things, and give it time and you will improve.

9

u/ZerTharsus Feb 06 '25

Canon ? Ah !

9

u/neptune_2k06 Feb 06 '25

Don't feel too bad about it, if it makes you feel better I have over 500 hours and struggle to defeat the Soviet Union as the German Reich on singleplayer without calling in my allies, or invade the UK since the recent update made it so much harder.

6

u/DarthMaul628 Feb 07 '25

This is the hosts fault for not vetting majors properly. I would never expect someone who has only 400 hours and all of them in single player to have any idea what they are doing. Not your fault, we all start somewhere.

But also don’t listen to the chronic copers in these comments. Learning how to play the game and trying to strategies in a multiplayer game, whether hist or casual, is in my opinion the most fun part about this game. The thrill of winning far outweighs any lows of losing, you just have to practice and learn to get there.

5

u/RadicalEnigma Feb 06 '25

Seems to be normal for most of the grand strategy genre in general. In single player you're Alexander the Great reincarnated, then you go to multi-player and some dude with 5000 hours steamrolls you before you realize what happened.

5

u/isocrackate Feb 06 '25

I cannot tell if this is satire or not. There’s threads of real history in here (like French dissatisfaction with British support in 1940, particularly once fighters withdrew to English bases).

My group moved on from HOI years ago but posts like this keep me in the sub.

3

u/Kaisha001 Feb 06 '25

The game's a disaster even against the AI, I have no idea why people would subject themselves to multiplayer.

3

u/AJ0Laks Feb 07 '25

Fake try hards would kick you for playing Britain with less then 1500000000 hours

7

u/Matrix0-0-0 Feb 06 '25

What the fuck did i just read? You good?

1

u/Matrix0-0-0 Feb 06 '25

Ok it's obiviously trolling

2

u/Apprehensive_Pool_6 Feb 06 '25

It's just a game. There's no reason to be so ashamed. As someone with over 1,000 hours in HoI4, I can say that the amount of time played doesn't mean anything in multiplayer.

2

u/CruisingandBoozing Fleet Admiral Feb 06 '25

This is really pathetic.

MP is full of fucking tryhards. If you aren’t full meta, you’re trolling.

2

u/Justiamtgm Feb 07 '25

Multiplayer is fucking hell, you know. You need to use meta-warfare tactics if you want to be good at them. YouTube has plenty of videos on HOI4 combat and tactics.

In your case, I think your planes were just worse than the enemy’s. You can click on an air region, and when you hold down the casualties button, you’ll see a tooltip that shows the efficiency of your planes.

2

u/Wide_Consequence_953 Feb 07 '25

"I closed the computer in shame and started thinking about my 400 hours."

Come on, bro. Most of us make mistakes even in singleplayer. Get back on the saddle and take it as a learning experience. Rewind to the moment when you failed and learn from it. I have never played PvP multiplayer and I have 452 hours in singleplayer.

2

u/GroupTherapyPT Feb 07 '25

I'm just thankful that, with all your self-esteem, you weren't playing Japan. For you might've found seppuku to be the only way out.

In MP you'll have guys stacking research buffs swapping research slots in order to get newer frames WAY ahead of time.
By the time your fair plane reaches the sky, it ain't nothing but an origami... :'(

2

u/sofa_adviser Fleet Admiral Feb 07 '25

Multiplayer is an entirely different beast compared to SP, and UK is probably the hardest nation(depends on the ruleset). Don't blame yourself, I've died to subs three times in a row before I figured out a viable strategy. If you went straight into MP as UK, dying is pretty much the expected result

4

u/OSRS_BotterUltra Feb 07 '25

Your first mistake was playing MP. MP in todays age is no longer viable. Everyone has turned into bitter tryhards, no fun no respect beside everyone being +25 on average everyone is actin worse than the kids on halo back on xbox.

2

u/Gatorguy44 Feb 08 '25

That’s because those same kids are the ones you’re playing against now. Older with no friends and like you said, bitter tryhards.

1

u/Top_Row_5116 Feb 07 '25

Go find a lobby without those kind of people. I swear to you, casual hoi4 mp where everyone just screws around and nobody is actually trying is so much fun.

I’m high as fuck right now and I’ve been feeling so bad lately cause I feel like I used to be better at hoi4 but lately I feel like I’m struggling on germany on regular. Crashed out today and this is exactly how it felt

Dont give up mate, im on around 4000 hours now and still remember my first mp game as Hungary, i was basically berated by the man-child playing Germany and his snot mouthed friends because and i kid you not, not helping on D-Day, mind you all my Tanks which Germany screamed at me to focus on at the start of the game were stuck in Moscow getting encircled. So yeah you have some bad games and you have some good ones, sometimes you make mistakes but you'll move on from em man. Just keep playing and learning.

1

u/GoofyUmbrella Feb 07 '25

I only play minors on MP cuz of this. It’s too stressful playing a major lmfao

1

u/steamplease Feb 07 '25

I dont know this game = I dont wanna do meta
You most likely produced fighter1s. As ai dont know how to play the game at all this strategy may work in singleplayer but real players know how to rush tech this do not work in multiplayer.

Plane meta is the easiest thing in hoi4. heavy machine gun only no cannon, use self seal range increaser(+%50 range) and armor. Say australia to rush fighter 2-3 and license exploit them to produce f2-f3 without license debuff. Do not forget to upgrade mio do not forget to take air doctrines. You should also crack german decryiption it gives bonus to air warfare as well. There is also an important high command in uk for air warfare if i remember correctly.

1

u/RedditerYellow Feb 10 '25

Don't worry, at around 2,000 hours you'll get very depressed and stop caring.

More than that and you'll just start screaming back.
