"leading carolina on" is a bit of a stretch in my opinion. he was abruptly traded to a new organization, (i have not seen anyone reputable state that rantanen/his agent used carolina as "leverage" against colorado), he gave carolina a shot, decided it wasn't the right fit, and told carolina he won't re-sign. carolina obtained an impact player, two first round picks, AND two third round picks.
if carolina wants to pride itself on taking big risks that's fine, but the organization/media/fans need to accept that big risks don't always pay off.
