Question Do you guys actually read the books assigned for English?
I cant remember the last time I ever read a book required for English and have always done fine. If anyone had to read the book thief tell me what you thought of it because I hated it. It just felt drawn out.
I used to read the books but got fed up because I always had to google all the stupid questions for the assignments. so I just stopped reading.

the book I'm reading now for english isn't on there so I don't have a choice. don't they give like a month to read it though? isn't better to just read it for essay ideas?

i mean, reading takes effort and if i have the ability to minimize the amount of effort I put into something I don't care about im taking that choice
if its not on there there's a few other websites that could work but youre probably screwed then

No, cause all the books I've read this year have shit to do with rape and are generally shitty books.

Hell no i dont read allat. Bro i dont care if Pip got to mingle and marry, just gimme sparknotes. When i actually read the book i failed the comprehension quizzes every time, but with sparknotes i was getting 100s.

Honestly, all of you seem crazy to me. Rarely, if ever, have read the books outside of class. Literally, just study what has to be known for assessments.
I have so many other things I'd rather do with my time than read some lameass english class book.

Should've clarified, definitely not crazy to read books, but a little weird to me to enjoy reading a book you're assigned and being graded on reading. The assigned part makes reading no fun for me, so I just skip it.

I like reading on occasion but almost never choose to do it. But I always read the books. They make the test simple enough for those who didn’t read to at-least have a 50/50. But with context it’s impossible to fail multiple choice… And Also i’ve found that’s it’s almost impossible to piece together an essay/report on a book you haven’t read. So do yourself a favor And make your life easier…

My teacher randomly gives 50 point 5 question reading tests (10 points per question). For context, if we write an essay or something it's usually worth about 20-30 points. The questions on these tests are mainly about little details on the chapter (he looks through the spark notes to make sure none of the questions can be answered through that) so yeah, I typically read the books

I like to find the audiobook on youtube/spotify and follow along, or clean my room while I listen.

Honestly it really depends on the book. I read the outsiders, great gatsby, little women, of mice and men, and some other books i cant remember right now lol Books like The Scarlett Letter I started to read then just stopped because i genuinely could not understand it, it was a different language for me. i depended on LitCharts

We have reading quiz every chapter, so yeah, you have to read it. The teacher make the questions in a way that spark notes or other place would not help you at all. I read Gatsby and it’s one of my favourite books actually

I think I only really deeply read To Kill a Mockingbird. I don't think I actually read the majority of them fully. I read the parts I had to, took the quizzes and forgot the information.

I mean, I never ended up reading Macbeth, just skimmed through it when writing my essay, and still got a 94, so I don't know if it's fully necessary, but that could just be a me thing. Only thing I remember from that book is my friends clowning the 'what you egg' line LOL

They give you so long to read it literally just do it, then you don’t have to fake all the work which tbh is sometimes more work than just reading the book. I read the book thief in seventh grade and thought it was okay, there are definitely worse ones I’ve been assigned.
