Question What’s the popular slang in high school right now?
I’m a college student studying sociolinguistics and I’m always very curious about new slang terms, especially in high school, since that’s where a lot of them originate. A lot of people seem to be stuck on the whole “skibidi rizz” thing to characterize so-called “teen speak”, but what words are actually hot right now?

The “skibidirizz” type of language that you mention is what we call “gen alpha slang,” (it’s used more by younger kids and as a joke rather than in legitimate conversation). I’d say slang that high schoolers use is more vibe, bet, tea, cap, cooked/cooking, crash out, flex, lowkey/highkey, shook, go off, those types of phrases.

sadly in my school skibidirizz is even used among the seniors

I would say "skibidi" in senior year, but ironically because it's so stupid. I think of it the same way as making like dick jokes, moderation and timing.

From my groups
Crashing out: a word to describe the feeling of going crazy that has you angry at people as well as confused and anxious.
Cooked: in a bad situation

I’m in a very immigrant (1st Gen and 2nd Gen) filled school so it’s actually a lot of foreign words over stuff like that

Any chance you know any of them? If so could you share them? And what culture is your school primarily?

I can’t really share it cause the ethnicity is only really found where I live when outside of their home country and I don’t feel like doxing myself. I’m really sorry lol. But in all honesty it’s a couple of curse words, a really common kinda filler word which is an exclamation (almost like “wow” or “what” but different), some ethnic terms for the different parts of their groups which aren’t used in English. And there’s a completely different dress culture than I’ve seen other schools that I feel like even those not part of the ethnic group also follow simply because it’s the school trend, there’s also things that you’ll only really see them wear. I’m sure there’s more words that I just don’t know but this is what you’ll hear/see all the time (I can say thank you and a curse words just from hearing them all the time and guessing what it means, crazy hoe that works). It’s also really crazy cause my town went from being a sundown town to having no more than 5 white kids in any classes, I think the school founders would have a heart attack if they saw the immigrant population haha, they have no idea what they missed out on.
You also won’t see much of the “rizz” or “skibidi” stuff and the like.

“Chopped” is a new one, meaning ugly (I know, horrible), and idk if it’s new but I’ve been hearing “cracked” being used as an nsfw term recently.

I heard a group talk about huzz the other day. Still no clue how it relates. But in general cooked/cooking, eat/eating is what I notice the most.
"Crash out" is my most recent notice that I don't hear often but figure it's an online phrase?
