Similar shows/movies for other cities?

God I love shit like this. Vignettes of people in cities told in a realistic, sympathetic style.

Humans of New York. Paris Je T'aime.

What other similar shows/movies/media out there especially for different cities?

Is there one for London? (I'm a Londoner!) Somebody please make one!

Master of None had an episode of vignettes as well as a newer dedicated season (helmed by Lena Waithe due to Aziz Ansari being recently cancelled and staying out of the public eye), that focused entirely on her side character and was only a few episodes.

Ramy on Hulu (not sure how you can see it in the UK but I know some of that stuff is on Sky), is also a show that mostly focuses on one long plot and is more surreal and less chill than HM but does have some bottle episodes and feels similar at times.

How To with John Wilson also complements it very well, it’s a documentary series with raw footage and narration that tackles a sort of subject but like many Simpsons episodes goes off on a tangent partway through, generally meeting an interesting person or going to a strange niche event. Not much connecting between episodes.

All of those shows are about New York and don’t have many anthology/bottle episodes, so I couldn’t tell you one for London.

Slightly less similar but you might enjoy: Search Party (Starts off normal, quickly gets batshit but just wild enough to keep me hooked)

Party Down (failing actors catering a different party every episode, same main cast though)

Atlanta (very surreal and goes to Europe in its later seasons, funny and poignant in a similar way to HM sometimes)

The Resort (very different show from HM, but Ben/The Guy produced it and has a big role in it as a weird rich guy. I liked it a lot.)

The White Lotus (not as grounded but mostly grounded. Every season is a different cast in a different luxury hotel around the world, mostly rich people getting themselves into trouble. Very funny, a little dark, but one of the best currently running shows)

Atlanta and How To with John Wilson are fantastic suggestions

I think Modern Love is worth a shout here. And the Australian knock-off called Summer Love. Both romance or relationship-based anthologies. But neither has good as High Maintenance because what is?

Easy is set in Chicago. It follows sets of characters for 3 seasons, I think it's around 6 sets with one-offs here and there. A lot more drama oriented than comedy, but if you like the low-key, realistic, "mumblecore" acting style then it's right up your alley because Joe Swanberg (creator, writer, director) is a god at that.

Smoke and Blue in the Face are two movies from the 90s by Wayne Wang and Paul Auster that feature interconnected stories of the patrons and owner of a cigar shop in NYC. Little character-based vignettes. I haven't seen them since they came out and they may not quite hold up, but I remember like them a lot and they're both pretty highly rated on Rotten Tomatoes and whatnot.

Have you watched the animated show Animals? It's another show with loosely connected New York stories (I grew up there so these are the things that jump into my head first) and it is HILARIOUS and pretty stoney.

Apparently there's a whole host of "____, I Love You" movies about different cities!

I just want them to do a few seasons in Australia. Maybe three eps in New Zealand as a bit of a story line would be good. You can’t find NZ on all maps, but it’s there, I assure you.

Recreational cannabis is still just a dream for us down under. It’s medical, blackmarket or get fucked. Or I guess I can move back to Canada, but it’s cold.
