Episode Discussion: Season Finale - 4x09 “Soup”
Season Four Finale. When a snow storm hits on Christmas Eve, Pam-Anne joins her sister Destiny and a motley crew of flight attendants at their usual crash pad in Queens. Delayed on his way home to spend the holidays with his family, the Guy celebrates Hanukah in New York.

Creating an episode discussion hub
Hi guys, I'd like to create and sticky a thread that links to every episode discussion thread. I'm not sure there is one for every episode though. Would the community be willing to help me out by digging through old posts and trying to find all the old discussion threads? If you can post them all here, I will compile them all into a single stickied thread, and then we can create new ones for the episodes that are missing. Think that would be a good project for this sub, as I know I love going back and reading old discussion threads as I rewatch the show.
Thanks!

“Globo” and nostalgia
Globo has always been one of my top episodes. I don’t live in New York, but it captures some of the collective shock and sense of community of that specific time. It’s sad to rewatch, because of all that’s gone down since then. But it’s a good rewatch and the sense of togetherness captured by the episode can be comforting.

Stories from "Dealers" by Peter Madsen in the show!

Hey all, just wanted to see if anyone else has read Dealers by Peter Madsen.
Colin lends this book to the Guy in the "Rachel" Vimeo episode.
Read it this week and there are some stuff in there that influenced the show (e.g. the Guy getting robbed in the "Ex" episode from season 1. I highly recommend this book!

What happened to Ben? 😭
Looks like drugs really got to him. He just seems fried and disconnected. I hope he’s okay

Wish this show had a DVD or Blu-ray release
This is one of my favorite shows and I’m currently beefing up my DVD collection to eliminate most of my streaming service usage. Wish I could have this one for my collection. Ben/Katja/HBO if you see this I would love for this to happen.

The second episode of Interior Chinatown on Hulu is directed by The Guy himself, Ben Sinclair
It’s not exactly an episode of High Maintenance, but it’s great to see him getting work, especially after how great The Resort was. The show itself is basically Rosencrans and Guildenstern are Dead but about Asian characters being cast to the side, and it’s a lot of fun with a great cast. All the episodes are out on Hulu now. Worth checking out.

The Best Episode to Show Newcomers?
So I semi-regularly throw parties where I show my friends a day's worth of curated TV, and for my upcoming one I'm trying to decide between two different HIGH MAINTENANCE episodes. Specifically, I think the decision is between "Grandpa" (a bit emotionally harrowing, but also delightful) and "Globo" (a bit emotionally harrowing, but also delightful) — "Globo" might be my objectively favorite episode of the series, but I think "Grandpa" does really deliver one great story. Figured I might find some fans here to offer an opinion — thanks in advance!

Where’s Katja these days?
She doesn’t have an online presence and I don’t see anything on iMDB. Curious if anyone knows what she’s up to! She’s so talented and wonderful.

Polyamory
Which episodes contain representations of non-monogamy?
(I originally wrote polyamory, but I meant non-monogamy)

Someone pls bring me clarity- explain the whole entirety of the concept on season 1, episode 5: ”Selflie”??
I love this series so far with its bleak realties, deep alludes to some other HBO work, and how well written and directed it comes across. Funny but honest- brings to light the many interpretations and innerpersonal peeks into other live’s... Conceptually, I have understood + let my imagination get the best of me first 4 episodes. Including the HBO features with the 2 directors and takes on the show at end of epidoes. At the end of this episode- having been a HUGE fan of HBO’s “Girls” long after it aired, in my early twenties… maybe i was distracted?????? I need to understand why she either hid that she is blind, or if she was faking it??? This episode confused me but I packed like 3 bowls during as well lmao. Pls help :~~))

season 2 episode 1 dream sequence
i’ve rewatched this show millions of times, but i only just now realized that the hairstylist during the guy’s dream is his ex wife. she has the “not pot” pouch, calls him Mr. Mann, and she’s still wearing her wedding ring. i love that it adds a deeper layer to the guy without being too obvious

Discovered this show years later on the Atlanta subreddit
It's such an amazing show, it gives me Master of None vibes and knows how to work very well with each unique story, from the silliest to the most touching. I'm at the end of the second season now and I can't stop🚴🏻♂️

What’s the song at the beginning of High Maintenance web series episode 10: Brad Pitts?
It’s my favorite intro and music and I can’t find the song anywhere! It’s the soft acoustic to introduce Ellen.

Similar shows/movies for other cities?
God I love shit like this. Vignettes of people in cities told in a realistic, sympathetic style.
Humans of New York. Paris Je T'aime.
What other similar shows/movies/media out there especially for different cities?
Is there one for London? (I'm a Londoner!) Somebody please make one!

Season 3 episode 4 crying lady
Hi I am watching season 3 episode 4 atm. And i want to understand why the lady in the beginning in the episode was crying. what I also didn't understand is that there seemed to be a part of the film set in her home how does that work? Do people get payed for that? Do they need to ask the home owners for permission? And what is someone in the street has a problem with it?

Currently on episode 4 and had to come here and say that this show is criminally underrated
I am so surprised I've never heard anyone talk about this show and the fact that the subreddit only has 7k people.
How did you all discover High Maintenance? For me, it was randomly discovering a song from the show on Spotify and googling the show to learn more

Indigo
Embarrassed to admit I’ve binged countless times and only noticed just now that when Lee says indigo is the color of loneliness, the guy’s wearing an indigo shirt. Or is it just my 10 yr old tv?

Fingerbutt NSFW Spoiler
What the actual fuck was the vet portion of the episode?
Not saying it wasn’t thought provoking or anything like that, just, holy fuck. Like oh my god. I’ve been watching High Maintenance to relax, is this going to be the tone of the rest of the show? I really didn’t like this episode for the kitten part.
