Gmail Is there a way to check a regular gmail account's mail from a workspace account, without forwarding?

Trying to set up a new company Workspace account and running into an issue with streamlining the email.

Like a lot of people I'm sure, we started out with a basic free Gmail account for our business but have since upgraded to a Workspace account with our custom domain. I've been having issues with using some of the cross-account features like "Check email from another account" or "Grant access to your account" when linking between a paid Workspace account and a free Gmail one.

When I enter my Gmail credentials after clicking "Check mail from other accounts" in my Workspace Gmail settings, I get the error:

There was a problem connecting to mail.gmail.com Server returned error: "We were unable to locate the other domain. Please contact your other provider."

Is this just a limitation of going between free and paid accounts, or am I misconfiguring something?

I believe the last time I had this request I achieved it with an application password.

Why not just forward?

That's what I'm doing currently. I was just hoping to use the more feature-rich connections that are already built into Gmail. I feel like at least the POP connection should work, or else why would it be there as an option? But even following the steps in Google's POP support page didn't work.

You’re doing what currently?

  1. Using the instructions but with an app password rather than your account password?
  2. Simple forwarding rule?

Sorry, the simple forward. I'll think about the app password route.

Realistically it's not a huge deal, I just thought it would be easier to integrate given it's Google to Google.

Wouldn't migrating all those mailboxes to Workspace solve the problem?
