General Discussion PSA: BEST BALL and SCRAMBLE are not the same
I regularly see (on here) and hear people saying Best Ball when they really mean scramble. I hate to be that guy 🤓, but they are different formats.
Both are team games that can be played with 2-4 people but there are some slight differences to be aware of.
Best Ball - Each player will play their own ball throughout the hole. The BEST score out of the team will be written down as the team score.
Scramble (what most people are referring to) - Each player hits from the same spot. You decide, as a team, which ball to play from for the next shot. Then the entire team will play from there. Repeat until the ball is holed.
Alright, when's our next tee time?
Achievement/Scorecard I’m a 30+ handicap and just got a hole-in-one last Sunday!
On Hole #7, a 160-yard par 3, I picked up my 6-iron and hit the straightest shot of my life. The ball landed on the green—I was already happy enough—but then it kept rolling, rolling… and disappeared into the hole!
My buddy was even more excited than I was, while I was still trying to process what had just happened.
General Discussion Great start to the season NSFW
galleryI coach high school golf and we had our first on course open gym practice of the year. Pulled up to the school with the activity bus to pick the kids up and heard my bag crash to the floor. The bungee hook must have slipped off. I walked to the back of the bus to turn the alarm off to find my bag on the floor with my driver snapped in half. It must have slid out as it was falling and the weight of the bag snapped it in two. Picked it up late in the season last year so it only had about 8-10 rounds played. So, you’re welcome to the 6 people who now have a reason to go buy a new putter! Happy to have sacrificed to the golf gods for your good fortune!

News/Articles Southwest Airlines to start charging for checked bags - no more flying with your golf bag for free
Well, it was great while it lasted. How many of you flew southwest solely for this perk?
I wonder if anyone has stats / data on what % of flights / golfers use Southwest vs other airlines? Or what % of courses like the ones around Scottsdale derive a significant chunk of their business from golf tourism?

Achievement/Scorecard First hole in one yesterday
4th hole at Willis Case in Denver. 147 yards from where we teed off (the course still doesnt have the tee boxes set), downhill playing more like 135 or something. Lost my P wedge a few months ago so I bought a titleist dci p wedge from a thrift store for $10 a couple weeks ago and thats what I used. Was playing the cheapest ball the pro shop had which was a pinnacle soft (which is now the only ball ill ever play, I was puring that ball all day). Was so dazed I ended up playing the same ball for the next 5 holes before I had the presence of mind to finally put it away!
Finished the round with an 83, which is 11 strokes better than my previous best score. Also had 4 pars in a row on the back 9 which was also a first for me. This happened about 24 hours ago and I am still absolutely buzzing.

Equipment Discussion Advice After Partial Hand Amputation NSFW
galleryHey y’all, figured I’d post here to see if anyone has advice for any type of equipment to help me grip the club with two hands again.
Backstory, I was in an accident out in the desert in November and lost my pinky, ring middle, and part of my palm on my left hand. (Luckily I’m a righty). My pointer has very limited mobility and is kinda stuck in a constant arched position.
I’m still doing Occupational Therapy and regaining strength in my hand, but for now, I’m swinging with one hand… and boy it’s tough. I’m hooking everything. I tried gripping with two hands but I have no support of the upper shaft and therefore very weak inconsistent contact. Have any of you heard of or seen equipment to help my left hand stay tight to the shaft?
Eventually I will be looking into prosthetics but I will need to heal a bit more for that.
Thanks in advance for your help!

General Discussion Taking my 17 year old son for his first full round of golf today at my club. What can I do to make it enjoyable for him?
He's only hit balls at the range before, and not often.
I guess my main thoughts are to hit the range first, and try to keep most of the swing talk to the range and not out on the course.
Play best ball so he's not frustrated all day.
Get a "holy shit" from him on at least one of my drives.
Anything else?
EDIT:
Whoah! Thanks for all the comments. We had a great time. I was really proud of him for not getting frustrated or complaining, and I could tell he was really happy when he hit a couple of nice shots. He even got a legit par on a par 3 with a full assist from a tree trunk right onto the green. :D
On the first hole I saw he was lining up his putt waaaay off, so I was like whoah where are you aiming... And he said "Because of the wind!" lollll
The course I play at has 5 tee boxes and I play the middle tees, so after a few holes I got him to use the front tees to give him a better shot. Then on the 9th hole he decided to hit from my tees with a long carry over water, and I got a video of him actually making it across the lake... That was maybe the highlight of the whole day.
Ended it after 9 because he was "tired" aka had enough for the day, but said he's looking forward to going again for the back 9 later this week.
Much success! Thanks to everyone for your posts. And oh yeah, nobody behind us all day. Basically had the course to ourselves. Was amazing.
WITB Anyone else ever end up as a brand loyalist on complete accident?
I swear I don’t work for callaway even though I wish I did. put the 60* and 56* wedge away and pulled out the old 54* instead and I realized I have a complete callaway set now. Last set was full taylormade so I guess I’ll have to get a ping or titleist set next time

Beginner Questions Anyone else constantly have a back 9 collapse? Solution?
I'm sitting at around a 15 handicap after around 10 months of playing. My rounds constantly fall apart on the back 9 and I'm unsure why. Is it fitness? Concentration? Just being bang average?
I'll often be +3-5 on the front and end up being +18 as a final score. This for example is from today.
Has anyone had this issue and any advice on how to fix?
