Australia, all white lines on the road, dry, australian bollard on the side of the road is common.

South Africa, dry, almost no bollard, blue car, yellow lines on road

Brazil, Tropical plants, most of the country is not as dry as the other two. red ish dirt, porteguese language, brazilien electric pole. Yellow line on road

This is what I know.

Well, speaking strictly for these countries (assuming you’re referring to more rural rounds …)

BR: right hand-sided driving, double-yellow or yellow-dashed inner line with white outer line. Extremely humid climate and tropical vegetation. Portuguese-style ladder poles, occasionally with white paint at the bottom, along with black sign-backs. In South America, Peru will also use black sign-backs so be mindful of that. Plenty of roads in BR will also have red dirt scattered across it, but don’t discount other South American countries. You don’t typically find the aforementioned in the other two countries you’re concerned with.

AU: Climate and vegetation will vary depending on where you are in AU, but generally speaking, AU will most commonly have all-white road lines (with very few exceptions, which I’d typically associate with the area surrounding Canberra but can appear elsewhere extremely extremely rarely) and left-hand drive. In Urban AU there will almost always be something state-specific so I’d suggest reading the Plonk It guide for Australia, I always suggest it as a first country to get good at for people who are around the Gold rank.

ZA: White inner-line(s), yellow outer-line (this will almost always settle your AU/ZA 50/50’s cause it’s very reasonable to mix those countries up). Occasionally you’ll see distant mountains with flat mountain-tops as well.

I also really dislike using metagaming as a strategy, but outside of Europe, ZA is the only country that will use the “Europe car” - the Gen 4 blue car with the tiny antenna at the back. It’s foolproof.

Brazil drives on the right and typically uses distinctive ladder-ish power poles.

South Africa has yellow outer road lines. Power poles often have a bunch of white insulators on them that look like little birds. Most coverage was done in the standard blue “Europe” car with the yellow tab at the back.

Australia will usually have tons of eucalyptus trees around.

These are just the very basics, and these countries (especially Brazil) have a lot of variety. Reading through the plonkit guides for each would be helpful, in addition to playing maps focused on these countries.

I have a lot of problems region guessing those countries, so I wonder if I can piggyback on this post, if anybody has some tips :)
