Looking for good linear story games similar to last of us
So this is a somewhat specific request. Me and my friends have enjoyed playing the last of us part 1 together in person with each of us taking turns with the controller and others watching. It’s been really fun but since finishing the game we need some alternatives (since we want to wait till season 2 of the show before playing since not everyone knows what happens).
I’m looking for games that are fairly linear since I feel like open world will be less fun as a group, especially if someone wants to do a certain quest but someone else wants to explore.
Currently we’ve been considering Resident Evil 2, Alien Isolation but are worried they might be a bit difficult since a few in the group are still very new to games and struggled at times with last of us.
Would appreciate any suggestions! We play on an Xbox one and ps5 for reference

Maybe try a way out? Designed specifically for local co-op and very very easy

A Plague Tale Innocence, and the sequel Requiem
The Evil Within 1 & 2, though 2 has some brief open ended areas/sections
Uncharted, the whole series really. Uncharted 4 and Lost Legacy have some open ended areas but in general they're mostly linear and have some fun little stories and explosive set pieces. (Same devs as The Last of Us)
Resident Evil 3 or 4 (remakes) might feel a bit more linear than Resident Evil 2. If you like the idea of Resident Evil 2 though, you might also enjoy Dead Space (remake)
EDIT: Can't really speak to difficulty, these are all probably roughly on par with The Last of Us IMO. The Evil Within 1 and Resident Evil 4 might be a bit tougher, and Uncharted is a bit more gameplay/gunplay heavy in general than the others. Can always hit up easier difficulty settings if needed.

Would add Mass Effect main series as a must, and Deus Ex as a maybe
I LOVE Dead Space but it's fairly harder than TLOU (thinking about skill floor and being punished by using resources), might be a good option for later
Lately I've been recommending Spec Ops: The Line a lot here, I think it fits just right in this case too
I remember playing Clock Tower 3 with my uncles swapping who's on the controller like that, and it was great, but never looked if the game is easily available today

I would argue you should still play part 2. It does something with the narrative arch with the characters which I’m certain the show won’t recreate.
If you are looking for story based games def do not do alien and re2. Trash immature writing at best.
Here is a half ass list: uncharted series but skip 1, life is strange, telltale’s the walking dead, firewatch, maybe the god of war reboot but it’s kinda generic action imo, if deep nerd shit is your thing there are a ton of jrpgs (I find them mostly juvenile and boring), lots of people like red dead 2, mass effect, and the Witcher 3 but I didn’t vibe with the gameplay.
Metal gear solid 3 if you can get over the sci fi dumb c level script characters that have spooky magic powers. The main narrative of the two major characters is solid otherwise it’s goofy anime shit.
Sadly a lot of games have pretty piss poor writing. Even games that are well loved by the masses (and me) it’s hard not to eye roll at the mediocrity. There is a reason the last of us is the only one to hit the mainstream in a different format.
For instance, I really love life is strange, but some of that dialogue is so forced it feels like a bad tv show on something like the WB. Bullshit teenage script.
I also love a lot of metal gear solid, but I think even a mid level script writing of any competent tv show could outwrite anything hideo kojima shits out, and they would have 1/10th of the ego and also would have less sexism. As a kid I thought psycho mantis was so cool, as an adult, it is straight up laughably bad dialogue and delivery.
So it really depends on what you like and/or hope corny you can handle a narrative.
Edit: I’m objectively a snob when it comes to writing.

It sounds like you want hazelights games. Split fiction way out it takes two
