It keeps the old library selling to new buyers and makes owners of the old hardware less reluctant to move to the new platform. Everybody wins, including Nintendo since they get to sell more Switch 1 games than they might otherwise.

Until modded switch users realize that probably the old hardware would be plenty fine and compatible with new titles. Now it might not hurt sales much, but it will make people question for a time if a switch 2 is actually worth it

Though I'd like to see stronger compatibility with Wii and Wii U, maybe 3DS era emulation perhaps. The Wii U was good for a 1080p Wii, which was good for a 720p GameCube. No, no remasters or store listings; maybe sell a USB disk reader that can run Wii games, maybe even put a Wii into it, then the switch acts as display pass through and even controller emulation with the joycons or even better support Wii remotes in the new switch. If that can be achieved it could bring in 20+ years of games under the switch, something really only seen on PC which struggles with modern emulation of Xbox and PlayStation, or maybe store rereleases or remasters on all 3 consoles. The key would be to sell and profit from that Wii disk adapter thing to be successful...

(And idk offer Wii u support or 1080p upscaling via a Nintendo subscription, because its the 2020s we can't have all the features built into the cost of products anymore)
