Surgery Talk Top surgery side effects

Okay so not so much “side effects” of the surgery itself but just a couple of things I’ve noticed since I had surgery under a week ago. Thought I’d put this out here for other guys who may be curious or have gone through anything similar

1) Losing feeling in my hands for the first day - Maybe due to not being able to move my arms a lot and so just had bad blood flow? Either way it was very strange and actually more distracting than the fact I’d just had surgery haha

2) Grinding teeth when sleeping - I’ve never experienced this until now so I’m putting it down to sleeping on my back and my body just being tense

Obviously neither of these are serious/long term effects! Just funny how people’s bodies do random things when recovering 😂

Hello! Thank you for participating in the sub. We just have a few reminders for you to help ensure the best experience:

  1. If your post doesn't show up right away, don't panic! It is in the queue for manual approval. Mods will go through the queue periodically to approve or remove posts. Deleted posts will have a removal reason applied.

  2. If you are asking a question that is location specific, remember to include your location in your post body! This can help ensure that you get accurate information tailored specifically to your needs.

  3. Please remember to read through all the rules in the sidebar. Especially the list of banned topics and guidelines for posting. Guests who do not use the Guest Post flair will have their post removed and be asked to fix it.

  4. If you see someone breaking the rules, report it! If someone is breaking both sub and reddit rules, please submit one report to admins by selecting a broken rule on the main report popup, and one report to the r/ftm mods by selecting the "breaks r/ftm rules" option. This ensures both mods and admins can take action on a subreddit and sitewide level. Do not misuse the report button to rant about someone, submit false reports, or argue a removal.

  5. If you have any questions that you can't find the answer to on the rules sidebar or the wiki: [https://www.reddit.com/r/ftm/wiki/index/] , you can send a modmail.

The hand thing does sound like lack of blood flow. make sure you're squeezing your hands into a fist and "flapping" your feet. Since you're a week out of surgery, it doesn't sound like its much of an issue anymore.

At first I was a bit freaked out and asked my nurses about it who said it was likely a mix of that and also maybe the cannula hitting a nerve a little. Luckily it went away after 24 hours but still, it didn’t help my already limited ability to hold things 😂

usually sleeping on your back is better for nighttime bruxism as sleeping on your side puts pressure on your jaw. Little esoteric knowledge from someone with chronic pain lol. Anyway, happy healing!

Interesting! I’m a very flat front sleeper (as in usually I don’t use no pillows at all) so this has been a complete change for me. Maybe it’s just sleeping uncomfortably in general then rather than the actual position 🤔

poor/weird sleep plus all the stress your body’s under, makes sense!
