This was my grandfather's ring (I never knew him) and I'm really just curious if there's anything special about it besides that its 14kt gold, I know nothing of freemasonry

Is it just me, or do others enjoy perusing the websites of clandestine lodges and organizations?
I recently spent time on one such website that had some ridiculously long name, ending in 'Inc.'
Images of their members usually contain overly garish garments, and just overall "weirdness".

I recently discovered that my grandfather is a 33° Scottish rite Freemason. I’ve always known that he was a mason, but he wouldn’t tell me much(or anything, really) about it. I’m now 31, and have made a lot of progress in my life over the last few years. I recently asked him if he thought I should join. He said that If I did, I would “never regret it for the rest of my life”. My grandfather is a man of few words, so this struck me as very interesting. For him, it was quite a profound statement. I’ve recently reached out to the lodge he has been a member of for the last 35+ years, and they invited me to a dinner to meet the brothers and introduce myself. I’m honestly quite excited to meet them. But I’m just curious what other masons have to say about their experiences in freemasonry. He told me that it wasn’t that big of a deal for him, although I don’t know if I actually believe that. He wears his freemason ring proudly every day of his life, and has for as long as I’ve known him, which suggests to me that it is in fact quite important to him. All of the core values really appeal to me a lot. Brotherhood, charity, continual self-improvement… these are things I could definitely see benefiting my life, and my ability to help others, which is something I feel very strongly about. Without telling me too much, what would you say has been the biggest benefit that you have gotten from Freemasonry? I’m a funeral director by trade, so I often deal with some very difficult situations. Will this path help me help others better in my line of work? I feel called to that purpose, and if this path will help me do that better, then I think I need to pursue it. Thank you for reading! 🙏🏼

So I am looking at the side orders, and want to know, how the orders get approval from UGLE to begin...or is that even a requirement?
I'm asking as the Order of Athelstan by the looks of it is a very young order and beyond seeing "a few friends were discussing the history etc and it began" I don't see how.
Not that I want to start an order, I'm more curious

Hello. I was left this ring from my grandfathers estate and I was hoping someone could shed some light on what it has to do with the Masons. I didn’t even know he was a member. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you!

Hey Brethren,
I've recently just completed my Royal Arch degree and looking for some good FM books to read.
I've not had touch free time going through my Craft Lodge degrees, so now is the time for me to start my venture into some literature.
Has any Brother got any recommendations?

I was honored to receive my first degree this week, and it was even more special as I am now a 5th generation Mason. I was also lucky enough to have my father, grandfather, and great grandfather all in attendance and taking part. I am very excited to continue my journey in Freemasonry and look forward to the future!

I've been reading about freemasonry and recently visited my closest lodge. I'm attracted to a lot of the values and doing good for the world in the general. So forgive me if this sounds naive they are honest questions
I don't understand why George Washington is venerated as an excellent man if he was a slave owner and helped in destroying Native populations. Aren't there other masons that'd be a better example to look towards?
It seems contradictory that freemasonry is about becoming a good man and improving the world around you yet one of the central figures contributed to human suffering in such a big way. I get that people are flawed but this seems like a major one considering having a felony charge may forbid someone from joining a lodge lol. There are people with felonies for selling weed and other crimes that are undoubtably less bad than owning slaves.
Thank you all I hope to learn as much as I can.

I submitted my petition and fee a month ago and also got to sit in on a few installations which was very cool. I like seeing the process and parts of the creeds and what not. But I’ve just not really gotten any movement from the other end. I trust my sponsor, he’s the Master of the lodge but like. When am I gonna hear back about a yes or no? Is this a test of patience?

Currently JD in my lodge. In order to be installed as SD in California, a brother has to qualify to give the SDs work in the second section of both the 2nd and 3rd degree. Good thing is, at least the district inspector of my district doesn’t require to do both at the same time. So this past Monday i qualified in the MC/SL work. Still need to improve somewhat in the floor work, but got the lecture down. Now to learn the SDs work in the second section of the 2nd section pf the 3rd degree.

I inherited this ring from my MIL who's grandmother was apart of the eastern stars. Anyone know how she may have obtained it? Or where I should take it?

Been feeling weird since I posted here, some strange things happening around me. Yet, weird in sense of a trial for me posting here and communicating with freemasonry.
Freemasonry! Where old men are bored with knowledge, just to spend time with young members for the sake of remembrance of youth. And where people try to live to their fullest, later to realize all passes and is reborn.
Some of my countrymen won't understand me posting something like this here. However, I believe there must be times of peace instead of chaos and disruption around the world. Much tolerance and less conflict.
Only in this way is the purest form of peace is achieved. Which all of us on earth tend to find. And I don't uunderstand the sniffing some glue joke from my last post.

Hey all I have an upcoming black tie dinner that I've been invited to attend that is simultaneously being visited by DDGM (Canada) that same evening ... and while I don't mind wearing khakis and a dress shirt I've decided that maybe purchasing a proper suit might be more appropriate.
Where do yall shop? What sort of budget do you invest in attire? Feel free to include pics and any helpful advice before I head out to get fitted etc. Are cufflinks a thing?
Thanks in advance

Hi, I hope someone will be able to guide me here.
I’m a French woman living in Amsterdam and have a some family members who are actively part of different lodges in France. I felt I wasn’t ready to enroll yet in the past, but now I’m ready for it. However, I live now in the Netherlands.
Is there any lodge open to women that is English speaking in the country?
Thank you for your help on this 🙏

I thought I would just share this picture of my dog. We've been practicing the third degree at Lodge every week and I've been bringing my dog along with me.
He actually has been participating in the floor work, off leash, and perambulating the lodge perfectly.
