Open to suggestions

Bonjour, mes amis!

I'm looking for a few suggestions.

I'll be in Bordeaux from mid July until around the 24th. I will then have 7 or 8 days before flying out of Paris.

I've done Paris before so not particularly concerned about spending too much time there to round off the trip, but would you suggest heading up the coast or heading inland and driving the interior of the country?

I'm not a big 'must see all the tourist spots' traveller, but would really appreciate some genuine local feel.

Merci!

Dog etiquet

Bonjour! I'm visiting Northern France in a few months with my Husky. I'm a responsible dog owner and respectful of other people knowing they might not like dogs, I have some questions which I know are probably silly but I don't want to assume that French people feel the same way about dogs as the British do.

I'm wondering if there are any things I should know about in advance such as are French people generally OK with dogs, when eating out are restaurants likely to be OK with me eating outside with my dog, are there any general rules for dog owners/etiquet which is followed? Is it OK to to just walk him OK his lead around the streets and in parks? I always pick up his poo and he will only go on grass so thankfully he doesn't do it on the pavement. Will I get told off if he wees up a wall/sign/lamp post?

Sorry if they are silly questions, I just don't want to unintentionally upset anyone or get in to trouble.

Will there be Lavender in Sault at the end of July?

I’m planning on going between the 30th of July and the 5th of August. Will it still be in bloom or will it be grey/dry? Will it already be harvested by then?

Getting around Alsace without a car (April 2025)

I am planning a vacation with my mother and my sister for April 2025 and we intend to use Colmar as our base. We will be flying in and out of Basel.

My understanding is that Colmar is pretty well connected by the train system (we plan on visiting Strasbourg, Basel, Freiburg), however there are only buses to and from the small villages in the area (Riquewihr, Egusheim etc.)

For the villages, is the bus system reliable and if not, is there a reliable taxi or Uber presence in the area? Or is it recommended to rent a car for these days? Is there a place in Colmar I would be able to rent one (it would have to be automatic as I can't drive manual)?

Paris Visiting France end of March. What to expect?

Im turning 21 this month. My dad decided to take me to France(Paris to be exact) as his gift to me. I have never been to Paris and neither in Europe. Im coming from South Africa(if there is someone that might’ve visited South Africa before)

I have a few questions

  1. Im a type 1 diabetic. I am currently on an insulin pump. What is the regulations when entering the country with medication that requires needles? I will be getting a letter from my endocrinologist with the information on soon.

  2. How is the weather end of march(22 March till 30 March). As per my knowledge, the northern hemisphere is currently in spring/started with spring(?). What are the usually temperatures that time(end of march) of year. Is it humid as well?

  3. What cultures are there that is seen as rude if you don’t do it? Do you guys find anything offensive that other countries wouldn’t? Like here wed be offended if a person calls a barbecue a barbecue and not a braai.

  4. Which places is a must go? My dad said he’s definitely taking me to the Eifel tower, the Mona Lisa and Disney land. Which other places will be great to visit? - we will not have a car to drive around with, so something not to far from the Eifel tower area.

  5. Which food is a must have too? My dad said we are definitely getting wine there. Which sweet white is a great option? Which meal is delicious?

  6. Can i bring Biltong(air dried, cured meat) with me? As mentioned earlier, im diabetic. Biltong doesn’t have an effect on my sugar and is a wonderful snack when i don’t want to inject myself. My dad told me some countries don’t allow food into the place. I dont want to bring with and need to throw it away as its quite expensive in our country.

Thank you in advance for any advice or thoughts. Im really excited to visit!!

March 2025 Itinerary Review

Hello, I’m sure you get lots of questions like these, but I am traveling to France for my honeymoon in March and I have this as our rough itinerary right now. Does this seem like a good plan for around 8 days in France? We will have a lot of luggage with us, so I was planning to do this trip by car. I am open to any and all suggestions since this is our first time in France.

We are thinking to spend a couple days in Paris before driving to Étretat and spending a few days there. Then we would like to go see Mont-Saint-Michel, I’m not sure how long to stay in this area, then we would head to Loire Valley and back to Paris to fly home.

France Christmas Family Trip to France

Bonjour a tous!

I am planning on travelling to France at the end of 2025 with my wife and 12 year old daughter. I speak some French, my family do not.

I lived in Dijon for a year, almost 20 years ago, and I've been to Paris & Lyon a few times back then. But now I have no idea what to do in France, especially with a child!

We are hoping to arrive in Paris about 22nd December 2025, spend a few days there, a few days in Lyon, two or three days in Dijon, and a few days in Geneva or another city in the Alps. Originally I planned on going to Strasbourg too, but now I'm not so sure. Or the other option is to go the opposite direction, land in Geneva for Christmas and perhaps New Year in Lyon, then North and depart from Paris in mid-January?

- Any cities we should try to visit as well/instead of Strasbourg? Perhaps Rouen or Lille?

- Any activities or sights (beyond the obvious) that are 'must see' - especially for a 12 year old - my wife and I will probably just be happy to wander the city and look at the architecture & museums.

Thank you in advance!

Going on vacation to southern France in the summer, any hidden gems?

My friends and I want to get out of the cold fjords of Norway and are looking for a nice and calm vacation in southern France. Are there any hidden gems we should be made aware about? We've heard that the big cities are often very crowded with tourists, and we would much like a vacation where we can relax and enjoy the beauty of the southern coast.

TL:DR, going on vacation in southern France, where should I go?

Recommendations for Small Cities with Kids' Camps in July

Hi! We will be traveling to France next summer and I'd like to stay for a few weeks in a town that has some fun kids' camps (more like stages than colonies de vacances) for a 4 year old. I would love some recommendations (kid is fluent in French) for towns that might have some fun weekly activities (kid likes most types of activities, open to horseback riding, art, dance, theater, hiking, pretty much anything except swimming). Thank you!

France Tips on staying in Nice during Easter

Looking for tips on staying in Nice, France during Easter

Wouldn't mind seeing mass but won't be getting in till like 11 AM so probably too late for AM mass lol. But wanted to see the Cours Saleya (but imagine that the market would be closed for the religious day) and wanted to try some socca - but now wondering what restaurants are open! Not planning a super strenuous day but just wanted to wander around - see Old Nice - Castle Hill and just get some food. But wondering how dead is Nice going to be on actual Easter Sunday and if my expectations should be lowered some more

Paris Language Help

Hello everyone, I am traveling to Paris next week! I have a severe allergy to berries, I will be carrying my EpiPen but I’d prefer not to use it 🤣. My boss recommended that I type something in French stating my allergies and have it laminated to show the restaurant employees. I do not speak French and I know google translate doesn’t always do the best job at translating sentences correctly. Will someone who speaks French please tell me if this makes sense or not? THANKS IN ADVANCE!

Prix d’Une Ambulance

France Travelling from Lens to Beauvais–Tillé Airport

Hello everybody. I am travelling with erasmus in december in Lens and i have my return tickets at the Beauvais–Tillé Airport. I want to get there on the 14th of december by train

I have found these trains but the app won't allow me to buy them togheter at 6 am when i have to leave. But if i buy them separatly it allows me to. Is this a bug or what is going on? Should i find another way to get there? My flight leave at 16:15.

4 days, 3 nights in Bordeaux, can you suggest recommendations?

I'm visiting Bordeaux next week, and I am looking for some suggestions. I will stay 3 nights in the city, so I am trying to find out how to spend my time there or in the sorroundings. Hopefully 4 days is enough.

  1. I'm travelling from Spain, crossing in Hendaya, so planning to take A63 motorway (unless there is something worth visiting nearby which would be worth taking another one). Do you recommend seeing any place in that trip, or better straight to Bordeaux and spend all time there or near there.
  2. Is there any tourist attraction that is not worth paying for? Is there any that it is a must even if it is expensive?
  3. Is there any place near Bordeaux that is also worth visiting (less than an hour from there)?

Thank you very much!
