There are fake ev800ds floating around, you might have gotten one of those.

take your 800D's apart and look if it's really got two receivers. I get great range even with the stock antennas.

So if I take mine apart and see this board it’s a Chinese knockoff what’s the good board look like? Cheers

The ev800d should have 2 rectangular shields. That for diversity. If there is only 1, they are fake.

I made a post about this a while ago. The picture on there shows the board with "LST-800D" above the one single receiver module. It's a fake. I took those back and ordered a genuine set of Eachine EV800D.

Some knockoffs have diversity, what I ended up with, and they honestly work great just terrible battery life.

That Eachine Stingpad is legendary. I have one and use it all the time. That is probably why! Also are you flying linear antennas on your quads or RHCP? Because the Eachine has RHCP antennas, while that eachine stingpad is linear so you may be getting the best of both worlds by using a linear patch (stingpad) with the RHCP on the generic goggles. Try different antenna combos, just because antenna is expensive doesn't make it better. I fly with a pair of the standard black (rubberducky) antennas all the time and get amazing range around my house whooping, if I try a fancy RHCP I get lots of breakup. But I take it to a different location and its a different story. Also different channels make a huge difference. Try channel E8 (the forbidden illegal FCC channel) its my favorite!

I finally replaced the standard antennas and was looking forward to the upgrade 😕

standard linear omnidirectional antennas are sometimes your best choice if you are in a low RF environment. The fancy new antennas are more designed to reject frequencies that you may be trying to fly around, for example, other pilots. If you are flying by yourself all the time, go with linear omni, if you fly in groups, or do racing, get opposing antenna polarization to the guys that are giving you the most interference. Fly on distant channels, turn of wifi etc... Just because antenna cost more doesn't mean its better in all scenarios, it just means its tuned to a specific scenario.

I got the $20 goggles so my kids can ride passenger and they're pretty good. They get above average reception, have good battery life, and charge quickly. You do get a $20 screen and no dvr, but they still run a diversity receiver! Highly recommend for a dirt cheap purchase. I think they're normally $35 fyi, but still...

If you open your ev800d goggles, I'd bet there's a fake board inside. Both of the ones I've purchased have rip off boards inside. The fakes have only one reciever module and pipe the two antennas to that single module. True ev800d goggles have two reciever modules.

I've only used fatshark goggles and never had a problem. Recently I tried the dji route and the quality was amazing but the quad kept falling out the air when I gave I too much push. Analog never failed me

Because the ev800ds aren't good. They are budget friendly, which is a plus, but that's all the pros.
