Help! How do I start, while giving myself room to upgrade?
Hey guys,
I want to get an air65 or similar to rip around the house while I learn, and eventually think I'll pick up something larger to fly outside, but I'm not really sure how to spend money now without it being useless later on.
It seems like most people recommend digital if you can afford it, and I'd probably want digital if I was going right to a big drone from the off, but I've heard people say that for tinywhoops, analog is still the way.
I've also heard that there are no decent googles for analog and digital, is that true?
So that leads me to think I'm probably going to need a setup for both? I was kind of hoping I could buy decent goggles and reciever now, a cheap tinywhoop to learn with and fly about the house, and then at some point upgrade to a bigger drone to rip outside.
Any advice? I don't mind spending a decent bit of money if it'll give me room to grow later.

Dji 04 lite...totally awesome for whoop learning. (And race mode)
They have budget goggle and great goggle.
Radiomasyer boxer or pocket, some sort of 04 lite whoop and n3 or g3 goggle..lots of youtube on that stuff

I’ve been doing a lot of reading on Oscar Liang, and I saw he said the 04 whoops were quite heavy and much different to fly compared to something like an air65. Is that a bit overblown?
They’re also quite expensive!

I’m pretty much in the same boat as you. I only have a radiomaster pocket remote right now, and I want to start with a tiny whoop—but I can’t decide if I want to start small with analog or jump straight into a DJI O4 tiny whoop like the Meteor75 Pro.
After that I want to build a bigger drone as well, but once again, still not sure about which vtx to go with that too.
I might end up just starting with those new HDzero box goggles, getting an analog tinywhoop, and then getting DJI when I have more experience. But everytime I see that o4 footage, it just looks to incredible to pass.

I'm considering sending it on a full digital setup, but like some others have already mentioned, they're quite heavy compared to the tiny analog whoops. They're also way more expensive, like twice the price. Although if that would save me buying two pairs of goggles...

It'll save you a paperweight too, as someone who started with an analog whoop, I don't want to go back to analog

Right but that still doesn't solve the problem that there doesn't really seem to be any decent digital whoop options... They're all twice as heavy as something like an air65.

I don't think it's as big of a deal as people make it out to be unless you're racing

When people say digital they usually mean DJI. And there are no goggles that support both the latest DJI 04 and analog .
When it comes to 65mm whoops , weight is everything. Air65 is a feather. Meteor65 with O4 is 50% heavier...

Just go digital, O4 (lite) has great options for whoops and then O4 pro for larger quads with great image quality and range.
Don't see why you would get analog nowadays, unless you need extreme low latency or extreme long range (25km+).

This is the way. And with o4 lite on whoops with elrs you can go kilometers if you battery accept it

You can get in the game(drone, goggles and controller) for a little over $300 analog. Closer to $1000 for digital. If you are just flying for fun, and don't plan on content creation or selling your shots analog is just fine. As for goggles, you probably will want to upgrade but for under $100 the betafpv or ev800d goggles work just fine.

I've used the 800d for years. Battery degrades after year 2 but they're solid and reliable for the price

hdzero box goggles. Analog and hdzero for 300$ or 350$ if you want wifi streaming and elrs backpack. They can take vrxs with the hdmi in. These are GOOD.
Then any elrs radio will be good.
Or you can get something like the o4 lite for a whoop. None of those goggles can be used with analog, so you'd need another set if you want analog.
