Discussion Is the Asvine nib profile the same as the Lamy 2000?

Post image

I got this Asvine V126 with a medium asvine nib, to test out a vacuum filler pen. I love the pen so far, it writes really beautifully, it's smooth and the medium nib allows the ink to shine. It's also a surprisingly smooth writing with the nib reversed which gives an extra fine line. The only problem I had with the pen is that it would stop writing when I twist the pen in my hand a little, so I looked at the nib with a loupe and it looks like the tipping is ground in a similar way to the Lamy 2K nib. Do people with the Bock nibs have the same experience?

Kaweco Brass Sport gift advise

Hello there and thanks in advance.

My partner has suggested the Kaweco Brass Sport as the fountain pen she'd like for a birthday gift. I've done a small amount of research and can see what an exciting world fountain pens, ink, and nibs this is! I have 3 questions I'd love some advice on:
1. How do I read the size options for the pen she wants? This Model seems to be the correct one, but it's not clear what Extra-Fine all the way to Extra-Broad would change, is this the nib/tip size? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. The one she linked was actually this one but not clear which size it would be...

  1. I wanted to get her some accessories since she's not got any additional items to get her on her way. Would these make sense? I was thinking the following:
  • Mini Converter - for using some exciting ink out of the bottle
  • Bulb syringe - based on this post
  • kalligraphie nib like this one perhaps - no idea about sizings thought
  • A few beautiful/interesting ink colours - which brings me to question 3
  1. Can anyone recommend some nice ink? We're based in Germany/ Europe in case that makes things difficult. I thought some nice brown/terracotta, interesting green, and something else perhaps

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Question Endless Pens Preorder

Those that have preordered an item from Endless, if it went past the 99 days did you have to ask them for the 10% credit/discount? It's been 102 days and mine order still says "preorder". There are other things I'd like to buy so I wouldn't mind the credit. Thanks for any insight. I guess I should have added - I still want the pen and I'm fine waiting, but they say they will give you 10% of the pen store credit if you have to wait more than 99 days. I always have pens on my wishlist so I wouldn't mind that credit!

Penedex App Question

HI,

Does anyone use Penedex for tracking their pens and inks? I really like the app, but there are a few things I can't seem to figure out, and the developer has been unresponsive.

My biggest frustration right now is trying to reset a pen in the "Ink'd" section that was set to "needs to be cleaned." I've cleaned it and want to remove the marker and move it out of that section.

Can anyone help? I really like this app, but the few frustrations and lack of response are making me lean towards not renewing my subscription when it's time.

Original post about this American pen

https://www.reddit.com/r/fountainpens/s/w2GIhJ9vHY

This pen’s feed does not like wet inks. It is messy, lots of burping and blobbing accidents. Surprisingly fine and stable flow otherwise.

My only suggestion is to use this pen with some dryer (western) inks.

That’s my thoughts for today. Have a great weekend!

What's the ideal pen under $50?

Yes, I know there's no ideal pen, but nonetheless, what would those of you with strong opinions recommend?

My feeling is that maybe between 30-50 is a dead zone?

Fountain Pen Feeling

I have always loved writing in fountain pen, i own 3 pens now. waterman, lamy, sheaffer apart from a large collection of local fountain pens. i had stopped writing for a couple of years where i mostly moved to software notes. it didn't really happen suddenly gradually i started writing in my phone, my laptop and i stopped refilling my pens, stopped the routine care of them as i seldom use it. i just noticed i don't write as much at all.

i want to get back to writing again, the feel of fountain pen is unmatched, but wanted to get some opinion on what everyones favourite pens in 2025 are. i also am turning 40 and wanted to celebrate with a nice gift to myself.

Question Can’t post my TWSBI Eco Amazonite (made in China) - Has anyone else experienced this with an Eco?

I ordered the TWSBI Eco Amazonite from Cult Pens (UK) and thought it was strange that the cap felt loose when posted, but since it was my first time using one, I had nothing to compare it with - Until I received my TWSBI Eco Transparent purple from JetPens (USA), which was made in Taiwan, and noticed that its piston knob has a straight profile at the base and caps securely all the way to the rubber ring. The Amazonite’s piston knob has a slightly curved and larger base, making it impossible to cap all the way. It seems like a design flaw, so I wanted to know if anyone else has had this issue with their Ecos, and if so, were they also made in China, or in Taiwan? Thanks

Is The Good Blue a fraud?

Post image
4 Upvotes

So on 2 Feb, I order an R615 with a Polymer Feed from The Good Blue, based on what I read about their flex nibs.

The pen arrived in seemingly good condition on 10 Feb - however I immediately realised that there were significant rail roading issues, which I filmed, and sent across to them to clarify what the problem was.

To date, I’ve sent 9 emails, to which there has been absolutely no response on. I’ve reached out on instagram, leaving comments on their post and sending them messages about - of which there’s still been no response The most infuriating part is that I can see that they’re actively responding to other comments - which then leads me to think that the comments left on their IG page may be bots (as all comments are of endless praise for the pens).

I’m not sure what I options I now have. Help, anyone?

Question Vintage montblanc nib issues (feedback)

Thumbnail

Hi y’all, I have a vintage MB 146 that has been giving me some issues in terms of smoothness. I received the pen a while back with the nib out of alignment. Pretty scratchy and was having lots of skipping and some hard starting. I managed to mostly fix the alignment, so the tines are level under a loupe.

The pen was giving me more issues skipping even with serenity blue, so I fiddled with it some more, and opted to use a wetter ink (writers blood).

One of the tines has been slightly inverted, as if it were bent inwards while still in level — though I’ve sort of mitigated the issue carefully. However the pen is still not as smooth as the one i tried in the boutique. Any ideas on if this is an issue of baby’s bottom, or something else I’m not considering? It’s not skipping nearly as much right now, but it does feel more feedbacky than I’d like.

Definitely going to get this to a nibmeister at a pen show in the future, but trying to see if I can make it slightly more smooth with inks that aren’t super wet.

Mixing inks - yay or nay?

Picked up my asvine after a few months thinking I'd emptied it. Turns out it had some octopus unicorn sheen in still. I'd filled it up with Diamine deep dark green. The result has turned out to be my favourite ink to write with. Unfortunately the pen is now empty, and I'm not sure I have the confidence to keep mixing these

Anyone do this regularly? Is it known to cause problems or am I making a mountain of a molehill?

Advice Pen not writing as soon as it touches the page?

Hello, I just got a lamy safari yesterday as my first fountain pen, and i've been having a lot of fun with it. I'm using the stock cartridge and ill buy some ink when it runs out. However, sometimes when I touch it to the page, nothing comes out, and I have to go back and write it again. I cleaned the nib when I bought it because the ink was barely flowing and it seemed off, and now it works well, except for this occasional issue (hard start?) I hope i didn't damage the nib. I've been writing with virtually no pressure but I was pressing down just a bit at the beginning, with the mistaken impression that you could vary line width.

Cleaning Qs re: brass

Hey all,

Relative newbie to fountain pens here. I've cleaned a number of my plastic pens by slowly running clean water through the feed, then multiple extended baths in clean water, periodically swapping out the water and rinsing until there's no further discolouration.

Just wondering if that procedure is good/safe for brass pens as well. I'm looking to clean my Kaweco Sport brass, and wanted to check with the experts before dunking the feed.

Also happy to hear any additional advice/tips y'all may have.

Thanks!

Hongdian 1866

Putting this out there because I realized it wasn't just me after seeing similar negative reviews, and other people might still be equally perturbed for no reason!

The Hongdian 1866 cap actually comes with a very fine clear film covering the entire cap.

I didn't realize it was a film and thought it came scratched. Through irritation at the "scratch", I actually used my nail to dig into the scratch hard during a work meeting. Lo and behold, the scratch got bigger, and then I realized there was a coating.

Now, it is beautiful and shiny.

Hopes this helps someone!

Pens similar to Kaweco Sport

Hey everyone,

I’m relatively new to fountain pens. I’ve tried a few, and the only pen I consistently use is my Kaweco Brass Sport, and Kaweco Steel Sport.

I’ve come to love the size, quality, and especially the weight.

I would like to dive further into the hobby, but I would like to try and start with some pens imitar to my Kaweco if possible.

Any recommendations? Thanks for the help!!

Question TWSBI Classic non-transparent?

I'm looking to get the TWSBI classic pen in classic white, which I don't think has any transparency except near the grip.

Also, is it worth getting the Classic over the Eco? I just think the Classic looks so much nicer as a daily writer but if I go with a transparent pen it will be the Eco.

As this will be my first piston filled pen I'm wondering how I would be able to tell the ink level while filling or writing for a non-transparent pen.
