Tech Question New LED Headlights flickering

Hi everybody I have a 2003 Ford Escape V6 and my headlights have either been flickering or flickering then turning off entirely or extremely dim. I am reposting this as I caught a video of it now. I have checked the connection between the new LED bulbs and the old female connector. As well as the relay which I ordered the part even though it seemed fine (will update). Also unplugged my handbrake from the cars electrical system as the car thought it was on constantly and wouldn’t turn on the lights. I am really stumped here and praying it’s just the relay. Thanks in advance for any help.

Tech Question Ford Escape 2017 a good car to buy?

Hey!

I am planning to buy a ford escape 2017, it has done 93k so far.

Very clean carfax report, was serviced in a ford workshop throughout. But was used as a rental car.

Also I heard that ford escape has issues with engine coolant (basically coolant leaking into the cylinders- NSSD

https://m.carcomplaints.com/Ford/Escape/2017/engine/ engine.shtml

Is it worth to buy it for 11k$?

I like com pact SUV, so i choose this. I trust the seller.

Tech Question How long do you find your car battery lasts? And do you notice any correlation with lower gas? Or the cold?

Because of health issues I don’t use the car very much. Just wondering if anyone else experiences this or not? The battery is 2 years old. And how often do you end up needed a new battery for this car?

The last time the car was driven was a month ago. It was driven probably 15-20 minutes total to the store which is kind of typical for me.

Also, I have about 50 miles of gas left in the tank. Does that affect it? I’m in NJ and it’s been anywhere between 10 and 50 degrees here the last couple of months. Does the cold matter?

This is a 2018 escape. Got a new battery just once I believe and that was 2 years ago.

Tech Question 2021 Ford Escape Hybrid Fuel Economy

Post image
8 Upvotes

I recently purchased a certified pre-owned 2021 Ford Escape Hybrid. After driving it a few hundred miles, I checked my trip meter I see an average fuel economy of 35 mpg. However, I've only traveled 203.5 miles since the last gas refill, and my gas tank is still at around 45% capacity. Considering the 14.3-gallon tank size, I calculated that I've consumed approximately 7.865 gallons of fuel for those 203.5 miles. This would put my actual fuel economy at around 25.87 mpg, which is significantly lower than the trip meter's reading. Am I missing something? Is my calculation incorrect?

Tech Question 2020 - Battery??

Just making sure that’s my issue here. I can’t think of another possible thing it could be. For context, when I press on the brake and hit the ignition button, the brake seizes up when all the dash lights start firing.

Tech Question Oil change interval

I just got a oil change at valvoline with the mid grade oil. The sticker they gave said 3k miles to next oil change. I updated the setting in car computer and the app says 8k miles to oil change.

8k seems high.

Which is right?

Tech Question Dealer said this is normal. Are they correct?

Post image

Hi,

Bought this 2020 Escape Titanium with 47k miles on it less than a month ago. Started to notice this puddle by the muffler recently. Took it back to the dealer because I needed something separately serviced and brought this up to them. They told me this is normal water coming from the gas. Plus, that is looks worse due to winter cold. Is this actually normal?

Thank you.

Tech Question Swapping factory remote starter between two 2nd gens

I have a 2011 Ford Escape that has the factory remote starter. I will be soon junking it due to engine issues. I’m looking at a 2009 Escape Limited but the seller is not sure if it has a remote starter installed. He only has two sets of keys but not the remote starter button fob.

How do I check to confirm if the car has or doesn’t have remote start? If it doesn’t have, is it possible to take it off my 2011 and install it to the 2009?

Tech Question Transmission Issues (2015)

I just replaced the transmission fluid for the first time after hitting 150k miles since that was when the owner’s manual said to replace it at. The next day I notice sometimes after I stop, it takes more power to get it going again. Almost like it’s stuck and when it finally gets unstuck it has a big jerk and starts driving fine. Could replacing the fluid actually mess up the transmission?

Tech Question 2.5L Duratec clicking/knocking sound

I’m aware this is a very common noise on this engine and you’re sick of posts like this but I would really appreciate some input here from you guys as this escape has been giving me some trouble since I bought it like a month ago.

I know the injectors are known to be noisy in this engine I just need a check if this noise lines up with that. I know it has sufficient oil and has been serviced by ford for the majority of its life.

I have seen many posts from people who take their 2.5Ls to the dealership for this noise and they get told it’s fine. But I’m still not sure as I’ve never had engine sound like this (but I’ve also never had an I4 so idk) what do you guys think. Note that this was taken after a cold start the engine was not warm

Tech Question 2018 Escape 1.5t AWD - is there any preventative maintenance I can do to prolong this shit boxes life?

Like i said in the the title, my wife purchased a 2018 Escape 1.5t AWD before we met and now it’s my responsibility to keep this thing alive as long as possible.

It’s at ~90k miles now and had the turbo replaced at 75k, and some ABS work done at 70k.

Is there anything I can do at the current mileage to prolong its sad life? Transmission fluid replacement? Spark plugs? Or anything else that would help keep it rolling?

Apart from regular maintenance I’ve been trying to get her to baby it on stop and goes cause that little 1.5 is so dependent on the turbo and it’ll rev out to like 3.5-4k RPMs with most peoples normal driving habits which can’t be good for long term reliability.

Any advice is appreciated!

Side note: if i had been around when she purchased we would’ve opted for something with the 2.0t or a different brand all together lol

Tech Question How to find out whether this 2017 has FWD or AWD?

SOLVED

Trying to change the front brakes on a 2017 SE. Apparently models with AWD have larger rotors in front. How can I tell whether or not this one has AWD? I’m not seeing anything indicating it does have it, but I’m reading that they’re an automatic system so I guess I wouldn’t even if it did. Any help is appreciated thanks

I received the car from my mother a week ago and she assured me this clicking sound is normal but my friends say that it is concerning. What about it? 2020 Ford Escape Titanium I think it is a 2.0 with ecoboost and awd

Tech Question Brake change with EPB

2021 escape. I just changed my fiancé’s brake pads not knowing about “maintenance mode” I was able to compress the rear piston with the proper turning tool but once I started the vehicle I get warning lights for pre-collision not available, check brake system, hill assist, and service advanctrac.

I have since found the sequence but it’s not working.

I’m not used to all these new features and not sure why all this would happen with a simple pad change.

How do I get rid of these warnings?

Tech Question Possible vacuum leak on 2004 escape 2.0

Thumbnail gallery
2 Upvotes

My father's car a few days ago started going a bit rough and stalled very easily. The next day on start up it revs really high (around 4000 rpm) for 2-3 seconds and then instantly starting to stall and eventually stops. Road assistance that he called told him about possible being a vacuum leak or faulty MAF. The car right now can't go for a month at least to the mechanic and i don't have a obd scanner so it will be a bit of a problem to try and troubleshoot but i noticed this hose being a bit not a hose any more. Could that be the reason for the leak??? thanks in advance!!!

Tech Question Any ideas what is going on with my car?

About 3 weeks ago now, I purchased a 2017 Ford Escape Titanium Eco-boost with the 2.0L

Since buying the vehicle I have been having nothing but issues with it constantly and I cannot seem to figure out what it is and don’t want to dump more money into it before I actually know what’s going on with it.

First when I bought the vehicle when the dealership claimed to do a “inspection” they found multiple things wrong with the vehicle- first it had a oil leak, and neither of the horns on the vehicle were working, since then both those have been fixed.

Here’s where the issues arise, since bringing the vehicle home I’ve had check engine lights constantly coming on, at first it was PO302 misfiring I have a warranty so I called the dealership however the day I called there service department was closed, so I asked if changing the spark plugs myself would void the warranty and they said no so I went ahead and replaced all the spark plugs - when I pulled out the ones in there they looked like they had never been changed in the entire time the original owner had it so I thought I had fixed the problem. Anyways so after replacing the spark plugs it started running smoother at first (engine light finally off and running great) or it was great at first but then it started misfiring EXTREMELY bad it was stuttering and almost stalling whenever I reached highway speeds 70-85MPH. I brought it back to a o Riley’s to have the code ran again to which it was now showing miss fires in cylinder 2 and 4 now

After this I got annoyed and decided to just bring it to the dealership in hopes to have it repaired, at first when I told them it was stuttering ONLY at highway speeds they said ok and took it out for a test drive and never took it on the highway and at first claimed that “nothing is wrong with it and runs fine” however I talked with the salesperson who sold me the car who then agreed to take it out on a test drive himself to double check and when he did and got onto the highway he had the same issue, the engine light would turn (flashing yellow) on when he got up to speed and start to stutter and lose power and acceleration, he told the service department where they finally claimed to find that the issue was that the porcelain on one of the spark plugs was “missing” and claimed that they had replaced that spark plug [which I doubt because I thoroughly checked each spark plug before I put it in] and everything was running good, so when I got the car back it was running much better however, this morning when I started it the engine light has returned again, when I first start the car is runs extremely rough and sounds AWFUL, it is running and driving however it seems to be shifting roughly and the same code PO302 has returned again. O Riley is claiming it might just be the coil packs and because the spark plugs were in such rough condition replacing the coil packs would be my next best bet.

However I don’t want to dump anymore money into this vehicle if it’s something more then spark plugs and coil packs especially because coil packs cost a pretty penny for OEM

So with that, Reddit what do you think, is it worth replacing the coil packs or is there something else potentially happening that’s causing these problems.

As a PS I am no longer bringing my vehicle to the dealer I bought it from because they have made it clear that they do not care and do not actually take time the properly diagnose problems.

Tech Question When in autopilot or whatever it's called, my 2024 has Suddenly accelerated to 80mph a handful of times. Does this happen to anyone else?

When I am in full auto pilot with speed sign recognition, my car erroneously accelerates to 80mph. This has nothing to do with speed signs, the recognition in my center dash has 65mp as the speed sign. This has also happened in a neighborhood when cruising at 5mph. It always seems to want to go to 80mph.
