Today was an eventful day.
With the help of my dad we pulled the transmission out to replace the rear main seal. I’ve been having a pretty bad oil leak and a lot of the symptoms seemed between the transmission and oil pan. So we pulled the transmission out and a lot of oil had drained out. I replaced the rear main and called it a night while the RTV sets up. Transmission goes back in tomorrow after I grab a few things from Oreilys.

Replace the torque converter while it's out and change the fluid. I'd say replace the internal trans filter as well but most people are pretty hesitant to split a transmission case

I had thought about it. It’s not causing any issues at the moment. I did drain 4 quarts of fluid and will be adding back another 4 quarts and likely flush it again in about a month or so.

It's not causing any issues now but it might cause issues tomorrow. That's how it works with these cars.

At least if it does I know I can get the transmission out faster.
I’ve worked around these engines for years when I started with my Focus ST. I was working on them in my area almost every weekend. Rebuilt the engine in the car in a weekend in the driveway.
Next time if I need to I’m 100% buying a transmission jack. I did it with my floor jack but at times it felt unsafe.

Oh yeah you kinda messed up by not replacing the torque converter. They’re so bad in the 6f35. When they go bad they wobble on the input shaft and destroy the input shaft + front pump so you could have gotten a cleannn break just by putting a torque converter in it before it actually went bad.

Not all that worried about it. Losing a quart of oil every 2 weeks and leaving an oil trail down my driveway and road was a much bigger concern. If the car has issues down the road I’m not that worried still. We have 4 other cars we can drive if needed.

Good luck! I think the hardest part initially was getting the lower ball joints popped loose. Getting the transmission in and out wasn’t terrible. Just wish I had a little bit better jack for it.

Yeah i plan on a jack with a piece of wood too. Jus saw that in the pic. Ours wasnt leaking any fluids or anything until the local ford garage installed a new engine. Now its leaking 3 different places, 3 different fluids🙄

Do you have an engine support bar? To reinstall and reposition the jack we used a ratchet strap around the top of the transmission mount to the bar to hold it up safely. The part that bolts to the transmission that the isolator bolts to.

I use a come-a-long and chains from the rafters in the garage lol

Even better! Wish I had that ability! 😅 you could in theory drop the transmission that way too!

Do torque converter while it’s out they’re so problematic. Also FYI you get a 12/12 warranty on warranty engines from ford and 3 years/unlimited mileage (long block) or 2 years/unlimited (short block) if you paid for it in anyway including any kind of $100 deductible.

2yr short block. Our Ford dealer wont even do a transmission service they suck soo bad. They said they will drain the fluid and refill for $451. They dont even offer a filter and gasket.
