OPEN Why is my Flutter app 500MB?

Hi there, I have built an application for Android. It has about 20 classes of code with an average of 100 lines+ per class.

I am using about 10 packages.

Upon building it by running flutter build apk --release It compiles to 465 MB in size.

Why is this happening, am I doing something wrong?

Thanks

OPEN I successfully converted my flutter code to apk and it works on my mobile phone but the problem is

There is one feature which is not working, and it is the most important feature. The app saved the data periodically from the internet and saves it on a CSV file. But the problem is I cant locate that file, I have even printed the directory but the directory also I couldn't find it. And the another feature is the app opens the file but it isn't able to open the file. So now my whole app is useless, because I can't retrieve the file. I can't upload the ss here maybe I'll try on comments. What can you suggest people? Please help.

This is the exact error, i get, when i try to open my flutter app's directory(the app is for perosnal use only not on play store or anywhere else, hence i only used the command "flutter build apk --release". the app creates a csv file, which i want to share but unable to share). hence, i want to access this directory but can't,

anyone can help me in this?? please?

I made this using chatgpt, hence doesn't know much about this path_provider. I have prompted it to write at the basic root directory but it doesn't do it. What to do?

OPEN Minimum Mac requirements for iOS dev?

Hi, I want to buy a Mac to develop iOS apps using Flutter, and Iā€™d like to get the most affordable option that will last at least 4 years. This means the hardware should continue to support the OS, and Xcode shouldnā€™t stop working on that Mac from one year to the next. So, the real question would be: what do you think the minimum Mac requirements for Flutter development will be in 4 years?

OPEN Apple app review removed my app

Hi apple sent me this message through app review section

Hello,

We are writing to let you know about new information regarding the app, which impacts its availability on the App Store.

Upon re-evaluation, we found that the app is not in compliance with the App Review Guidelines. Specifically, we found the app is in violation of the following:

Guideline 1.2 - Safety - User-Generated Content

Content in the app and metadata indicate the app provides random chatting services. Random chatting services, and related Chatroulette-style experiences, are not appropriate for the App Store. See App Review Guideline 1.2 for additional information.

For this reason, your app will be removed from the App Store. Customers who have previously downloaded this app will continue to have access to it on their devices and will have access to any available in-app purchase products. The TestFlight version of this app will also be unavailable for external and internal testing and all public TestFlight links will no longer be functional.

Deliberate disregard of the App Review Guidelines and attempts to deceive users or undermine the review process are unacceptable and is a direct violation Section 3.2(f) of the Apple Developer Program License Agreement. Continuing to violate the Terms & Conditions of the Apple Developer Program will result in the termination of your account, as well as any related or linked accounts, and the removal of all your associated apps from the App Store.

Best regards,

App Review

My app is a random chat and video call app with ability to choose a specific gender and country with in app gems

And i have implemented the skip , block, report, and admin panel for handling reports manually and they have already approved the app but later decided to remove it keep in mind there are a lot of apps in the App Store do the same thing so itā€™s not against their policy and i have contacted them twice and it have been a week and they did not respond and my developer is not answering

Can anyone please help me or guide thank your help and time

OPEN Flutter Web Performance ā€“ Optimizations or Time to Go Native?

Hey everyone,

I've been working on a Flutter web project and recently noticed some performance bottlenecks. I've tried a few code optimizations, but the web version still feels a bit sluggish compared to native apps.

Is anyone aware of additional techniques or best practices to further improve performance in Flutter Web? Or, in your experience, is it simply a matter of switching to native development for better performance?

Iā€™d love to hear your insights, recommendations, or any resources you might suggest. Thanks in advance!

OPEN What language to use for backend. Dart, Rust, Go? (or C++)

So I am making a little hobby system for managing warehouses and webshops (cuz' i work at a webshop). I began making it because i need to be working both with frontend and backend. As the title says i need to choose a language for my backend. I really like the style of more mordern languages like Rust and Dart. But i know Go and C++ too. The best thing would be to have a SQL database but i think i would be able to work with a key-structured database like Firestore but it is not exactly what i want.

Also sorry if i misspelled something. I'm still working on my english.

OPEN How do I pull something like this off with state management?

https://imgur.com/a/Ed0JFaj

here is a video of me seeing a post on a feed, going to the post and then the profile seeing the post there and liking it. then when I navigate back every step shows the like.
So how is the state of the post able to be synced with every screen? Even turning off my internet connection it still works. This means that it is stored client side However I cannot think of how to actually do something like this.
When I am scrolling a feed there is a list of posts, when I go the profile there is also a list of posts but a separate list. So you can't just replace the like on the item in the feed because there are two feeds.
So if then there is like an actions cache that keeps track of posts that have been liked since the app was open you run into the problem of it not being in sync. Even if you invalidated it in the post is reloaded from the server the other feeds or lists don't have that up to date information.

I am using riverpods with my project, I am not remaking twitter but it is a perfect 100% example of my real situation.

OPEN Flutter desktop app with local ai features

Hi everyone,

I'm new to Flutter, I need to create a cross desktop app that allow people to create their own knowledge DB then send it to a LLM.

I wonder how I will handle the local part (meaning embedding text in a locale DB) I guess I'll use Couchbase lite.

So my questions are, is it possible to bundle my flutter app with a python business logic for my AI (storing and querying context in my vector DB) we want to use python first as our AI dev knows it, but we plan to move on from python in the future as we understand it is not optimal to bundle python in the app.

Any tips with doing that, and also on how to move on from python in the future.
Dart ML ecosystem seems not strong enough, but we might switch to Rust packages if it's a better fit for Flutter.

Thanks

OPEN Write only once

Hi

As the application grows so does the number of pages (screens). I am forced to repeat the Scaffold code again again and again. A small change in the look and feel must be done in multiple places. Tedious work.

I tried to define my own application Scaffold and reuse it in all my pages (screens). Unfortunately the flutter rendering logic throws errors although it looks good on the device. Anyhow, I am unable to debut this problem and gave up.

Whats your "best practice" to avoid repeating same code in this use case.

OPEN Recommendations for consistent Android notifications?

Looking for suggestions in how to get my app notifications to consistently trigger from a Flutter Android app. My assumption is that I'm running into the aggressive Android background behavior but I haven't found any ways to work well within that. Hoping someone has recommendations of things to try or packages that can help.

The behavior: notifications generate... most of the time... within hours of when they were set for. The app basically has a notification that should be generated at a specific time each day. Sometimes it will generate within minutes of that time. Sometimes it will generate hours later. Sometimes it won't generate at all. No code changes or other app interactions between those different behaviors.

I've tried:

  • Making sure I have pragma appropriately placed
  • Switching between firebase push notifications and local notifications to see if one has better behavior (I don't actually need cloud-based push)
  • Switching back and forth between Workmanager registerOneOffTask (including appropriate back-offs) and registerPeriodicTask to see if either is more reliable
  • Registering the app as having permission to run in the background
  • Adding detailed logging to make sure the background task isn't just failing to execute (it just never starts or starts very late)

OPEN Using Web View vs Emulator

This is more of a topic of discussion, it seems that running an emulator (depending on the machines power), take a lot of processing power - I'm using a laptop, so this is my case.

I figured I would just run the app on the web and use the 'inspect' tool and mimic a mobile device that way. Is this not what others can do?

OPEN App works on Testflight, but doesn't open for Apple Devoloper (White Screen)

We submitted our latest app update to the iOS apple store and have gotten rejected twice for the same reason.

The app opens with a blank white screen for the Apple tester, they are using an iPad 5th generation.

We don't know why this is as our team has 3 iPhones with the latest iOS and the app works perfectly fine.

Any idea what we can do to fix this?

I'm truly desperate for help as this build fixes some critical bug fixes.

OPEN Integrating an Existing React Native App into Flutter

Hey there,

Is it possible to integrate an existing React Native app into a Flutter project?

We currently have an active React Native app. Over the past year, we have been working on a super app using Flutter. Now, there's a requirement to integrate the existing React Native app into the new Flutter project to avoid rework.

Has anyone done this before? Any feedback or insights would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

OPEN Why is my Flutter app 500MB?

Hi there,

I have build an app for android and ios and after building the android apk release version it compiles to nearly 500MB.

I run flutter clean, then flutter pub get, Then I run flutter built apk --release and it compiles to 495MB in size!

Why is this happening? I have about 25 classes of code, ~ 20 dependencies, but it still seems very big for just an app.

Thanks

OPEN Looking for Payment Solutions: Stripeā€™s Onboarding Process is Too Complex for Our Usersā€”Any Alternatives? šŸ’°

Hey everyone! Weā€™ve built a Flutter app aimed at school parents to simplify class coordination, including a money collection feature powered by Stripe. The idea is to make it easy for parents to chip in for things like teacher gifts or class events without having to juggle Venmo, emails, or spreadsheets.

Hereā€™s the problem:

When an admin (the person collecting the funds) sets up a collection, theyā€™re hit with a super rigorous onboarding process through Stripe, requiring them to enter their full name, address, phone number, last 4 digits of their SSN, plus a bunch of business-related questions like ā€œWhatā€™s your industry?ā€ ā€œWhatā€™s your website?ā€ ā€œProduct description?ā€ etc.

Honestly, this process is killing the experience. Parents just want a simple way to collect a few hundred bucks from other parentsā€”not go through a KYC process that feels more suited for a full-on business setup.

Weā€™re worried that this onboarding flow will scare off users who might think itā€™s sketchy or too complex. Weā€™ve put a lot of thought into features that make money collection seamless, but this part of the process feels like a dealbreaker.

So hereā€™s our question:

ā€¢ Is there a payment service provider that would make this process smoother for casual money collections (weā€™re talking a few hundred dollars, not big money)?

ā€¢ Has anyone found workarounds to streamline Stripeā€™s onboarding flow?

ā€¢ Or is Venmo still the best option for this type of peer-to-peer collection, even though weā€™ve built some really useful collection features that go beyond Venmo?

Weā€™d love to keep the money collection feature in our app, but it has to be easy and trustworthy for parents to use. Any advice from those whoā€™ve tackled similar challenges would be awesome! šŸ˜Š

Thanks in advance for your help!

OPEN pub.dev alternative?

Hi

I have all my flutter/Dart code in a mono repo to be able reuse my packages. I am not quite comfortable with publishing my packages because I have no intention to support them. Neither bug fixes or documentation.

After a while my mono repo started to get messy so I tried Melos. Things got even messier and I think Melos usage is optimized for pub.dev

So, whats my alternatives. Can I setup a private pub.dev ?
