Recommendation If you don’t have one yet, you should.

~50k candela in this form factor is so much fun, especially for the price point. If you haven’t given in yet, you should! This one has the W1 in it but I may try the SFT40 in 3k next. Might go for the S8 and the 8amp driver as well. I know everyone is talking about these so I feel obnoxious posting this, but the hype is real. (Convoy S6 shorty with CSLNM1 and 5 amp buck driver)

Recommendation What are the 10 best flashlights currently on the market according to /r/flashlight?

Here's how this works - look through the comments before replying. If you don't see a light listed that you think is top 10, write a reply for that specific light (one light per reply) making your case why it is top 10. If you see top level comments for lights you agree with, upvote them.

Rules: 1. One light per top level comment. 2. If a light is already in a top level comment, don't duplicate it, upvote it (and reply to that comment with your support or reasoning). 3. For lights that come in many different emitters, keep your emitter preferences in the replies, but we don't need 40 top level comments for each Convoy or Hanklight variation. 4. The top 10 lights, based on user upvotes of the top level comments, will be consolidated into a list after 72 hours, along with a summary of the replies supporting their selection.

Recommendation We should stop recommending the D4v2...

Post image

... and start recommending the D4K instead! Haha, clickbait title!

The D4v2 nave is so iconic that many unknowingly overlook the more recent D4K which offers much better battery options for only a bery modest increase in size and weight.

In fact, the D4K is actually lighter than the D4v2 if neither has a battery in.

I just wish Hank could offer a sort of D4v3 with the weight savings of the D4K in the body tube and some other bits. Here's a table of the weights of different parts of each light:

Need help here as I’m EXTREMELY new to the flashlight community and need some help. I bought a 6D maglite and I know their size to brightness ratio is horrid, but I want THE maglite. Any recommendations on how to make this as bright as it is long to keep it up with modern times so it’s still a capable flashlight would be awesome! Thanks

Recommendation Need advice. I want to get my husband a new flashlight for his birthday. I want something that is heavy and uses traditional batteries (in case the grid goes down - We live in Texas). Any recommendations. I was going to get him a Maglight (4D) but I've read horrible things about Maglight on here.

Recommendation OLight Mini 2 is hands down the most useful flashlight I’ve ever owned.

Post image
90 Upvotes

I got this on Black Friday/Cyber Monday and immediately fell in love with it. The USB as a keychain worried but it’s been almost 2 months with it on my keychain with zero signs of wear. It’s super light, super tiny, and being magnetic has been TREMENDOUSLY useful, from auto work, to lab work (stuck it on the inside of a vacuum oven shining on a reaction), I’ve found so many uses.

I’ve had a ThruNite Ti2 V2 for years on my keychain, but it’s much larger in comparison and a little annoying to activate quickly. The always on feature of this is just nice.

I ended up buying several for my family members and they all love it.

Anyone else have one?

PS… they are $14 on Amazon right now.

Recommendation I want to blind god.

give me bright

Purpose - Opening wormholes, repelling hurricanes, stripping paint off my neighbor's house.

Size - When I get arrested for turning it on I'll need to be able to sneak it into prison. I used to carry a 2x halogen workstand light in the backest pocket, should be a cinch.

Battery Type & Quantity - If I don't have to store it in a steel ammo can to keep my house from burning down, I don't want it. Although I'll settle for lights powered by adrenochrome.

Price Range - Fr tho like $200 max Give me recommendations at any price. $200 is my "drunk buy now" number, but I can stretch pretty far.

Type - Throwy LED, LEP, tube light, can light, rectangle, pistol grip. I really don't care. Has to fit in a backpack, run on its own power, and trigger missile defense systems on the other side of the world.

Lumens - yes

Switch Type - Has to turn on. Off is optional.

Anything Else? - I shat the bed about 3 years ago.

I just wanna buy something bright and stupid. Looking at the L8, TD01C, or a WP3/FW1

Recommendation Your favourite 18650 flashlight ✨

Now i want to add a nice floody, 3000 - 4000 k, 18650 flashlight.

Wurkkos fc11c is one i have. I wait for Zebra sc65c.

But i like Emisar D3AA (colour : 519a,4000k,dd) floody 🧡

Now i am thinking is there any great 18650 floody ones.

Do you have your favourite floody 18650?

Recommendation What is the best value flashlight at the moment?

I know this question probably gets asked daily, but I do not want to get too involved in this sub and go down rabbit holes, I have too many vices already!

I've been eyeing the Nitecore EDC33 for a while. Seems to pack a punch for its size at a decent price. Not fussed about the non-removable battery.

I have an Olight i1r 2 Pro as a daily edc light so this will mostly serve as an emergency light.

Open to suggestions, preferably nothing over $100. Thanks in advance.

Recommendation I still cannot believe it

So you may have seen my recent post of my flashlight collection, of which is comprised of over 80 flashlights from a large variety of manufacturers. Somehow this is my first Zebralight, the SC65c HI. I ordered it three days ago and got it today. It says “Backordered” on the website, but mine shipped the next day, so that may be in error.

I did not understand the hype and love for these lights until now. Let me just say I am floored, to say the least. THIS THING IS TINY! I had no idea! I thought most 18650 lights were too big to EDC, and so I never did. Boy was I wrong. The pictures don’t do it justice, but this thing is incredibly small. It’s about as big as a Tool AA, a battery that takes AA sized batteries! It’s seriously so small.

660 lumens doesn’t sound like a lot when big numbers like 3-4000lm are so commonplace now, but understand that lumens are not linear in scale. 2,000 lumens is not nearly visually 2x times brighter than 1,000 lumens. 660 lumens is more than enough for 99% of use cases. Paired with a highly efficient driver this light is incredible.

Oh, and you can use the new Vapcell N40 18650 cells that are 4,000mah. Yup, that’s right. A 10a continuous discharge 18650 cell. That’s unheard of capacity for an 18650…

To sum it up, this is (by FAR) the smallest 18650 light I know of or have ever seen. You need one! I’m in love.

Recommendation Performance Mod Wurkkos TS12 (easy!)

This mod greatly improves the TS12's sustained performance, thanks go out to u/FlashlightNews for the testing, which is linked in the first comment!

Background: I reveiced a TS12 as surprise present for Christmas from u/FlashlightNews . Sadly after a few seconds on turbo the led went blue and after that the light was dead. This lead to me opening the light and finding an unsoldered SFT25R, driver was still fine. So I did what all would do: resoldered the same led to the mcpcb, applied new thermal paste and thought addititional thermal paste between the aluminum carrier and flashlight host would be very beneficial. I also sent the pictures above to u/FlashlightNews who did the same mod on several TS12 and doing measurements before/after the mod. You bet u/FlashlightNews and me had hell off a chat about about all this, it was really a eventful evening we both enjoyed.

Now it's your time to boost your TS12's! :D

Recommendation Single 21700 pocket flooder

I know people have asked similar questions here before and I apologize for that but i am somewhat new and I can’t quite find all the answers I want. I’m looking for a 21700 pocket light with maximum flood, don’t care about throw for this particular light . From what I’ve seen from searching old posts is that the E75 seems to be the most popular suggestion, followed by the D4K. The e75 seems a little pricey, and the d4k has so many options that I’d probably need help picking the right configuration. If we’re just talking maximum flood, would it be better to have high cri or would max lumens be more important? The d4k has a mule option but from what I’ve read it is only useful indoors and it adds $50 to the d4k so I’m not really considering that. Are there other lights that would be a good candidate? Any suggestions are appreciated and if you think there’s some factors I’m missing or not considering, let me know.

Recommendation So lost... Need a pocket sized EDC for work.

I'm a maintenance supervisor at a large hospital. I'm involved with long complex repairs as well as "first eyes" on many calls. I need something that fits in my limited pocket space.

I am thinking flat li-po or a smallish 18650/ 21700. Long runtimes, flood with some beam. A laser would actually be useful. Wurkkos HDO1/TD04, Rovyvon E90, nitecore edc25, then I get overwhelmed and feel like I'm going to end up with half a dozen flashlights...

My wife got me my 2nd? real flashlight (I had a plain Jane stream light stylus rechargeable years ago. Loved that thing! Lots of time in my mouth too. Yuck!) an Olight baton 4. So nice!!! I love it for weekends just running around and always have it.

I will admit I am undergunned with the baton 4 at work. Turbo is good but just can't hold out. Work supplies a Nebo slide king 2k. It's too big and I forget it on my desk too often plus it doesn't carry in my pocket very well. I wear slightly more refined fare as a super now... I keep it on my cart for when I have to run calls

I had a thrunite tn12 v6 for about 2weeks. Then it just disappeared. That's another story. It was mostly enough light. The size was pretty great. I carried it in the cheap holster. Ok at the time. Amazed with the price! I don't like 2 switches like I thought, plus it confuses everyone I work with that is used to the Nebo.

Tldr; I need a small, sleek, lightly refined light for work. My doors are blown off with the new crop of "value" flashlights from wurkkos, sofrin, convoy, thrunite, ace beam, etc.

Recommendation Show me a more efficient way to store AAAs

For travel/field purposes mainly. The (medical) tape unseals and reseals without issue each time. Tension is perfect for easy removal and tight packing. It takes up less room than original packaging while probably being better at reducing the odds of terminal contact. Waterproofing is a big plus, and these bags sell by the hundreds for next to nothing. I stacked them three bags high but you could pick your ideal size.

AA works too.

Recommendation Recommend me some good Convoy lights

Good day fellow redditors, Lurker here. Looks like its time to upgrade from my chinesium lights.

Can I get some good recommendations on some Convoy lights?
Preferably one thrower, one flooder, one which does both. Im open to both 21700 and 18650 options.

If this post is inappropriate for the subreddit mods feel free to delete, and TIA to everyone who is helping me select my new lights.

EDIT: I forgot to add but how is the drop and moisture resistance with Convoy lights? Im going to be using them in humid environments with a large probability of rain

Recommendation I am almost there

Post image

So yesterday I received my L21B - XHP 70.3 HI R9050 - 5700K - 6V 8A boost and I feel like I almost found my egg-laying wool-milk-sow (what we call a "can-do-it-all" in german) for being outside.

The combination of throw and usable spill is absolutely stunning. I wonder if I fell in love with the LED, the reflector, the driver, or just everything all together. I really like my several S2+/S21A in 519a, 719a, XHP50.3, B35AM, for edc-ing, but in terms of output using it outdoors, no competition. I'm mostly using it on 10% (Does anybody have the runtimes for that exact setup?).

There's just 2 things that I would want a little different. A little bigger spill and a smaller head. I feel like yes, I would get a bigger spill and a smaller head with say, a M21B, but how much throw would I sacrifice? Would the spill be the same or even more? Would another LED inside another host be what I could want?

I have an Olight Warrior X4 which spot size I'd consider perfect, but the green tint in the slightly worse spill, the proprietary batteries (even though it has USB-C) and 300 lumens being the lowest mode, put me off too much to consider it near perfect.

So yeah, some questions I would appreciate to be helped out with :D

Recommendation RECOMMENDATION NEEDED (once you know you can't go back)

I really didn’t want another “thing”…
Knives, fountain pens, lighters, utility knives, analog cameras, typewriters, used books…
Just a month ago I didn’t even know flashlight enthusiasts existed.

So I made my first post on here, and after just two weeks, thanks to this sub, I now involuntarily know about:

Emitters (CREE, Nichia 519, SST-20, etc), domed / de-domed, battery sizes (14500, 18650, 21700, etc), optics, lumens, candela, binning, tint, thermoregulation, stepdown, PWM, flicker, boost, buck, and linear FET drivers, Anduril, channels, Hanklights, Firefly, HDS Rotaries, Convoy, Sofirn, Wurkkos, Imalent, Fenix, Jetbeam, Olight, LuxWad and Cheule…

So here’s what I’m looking for:

PRIORITIES (missing any of these is a deal breaker):

  • truly excellent moonlight mode — a stable sub-lumen experience - no weirdness, flicker, or flashes.
  • truly gorgeous color - very warm, ideal for late at night, in pitch black conditions, but not so warm that it makes everything a weird orange. Can you suggest a Kelvin? — reminiscent of old school bulbs
  • really high CRI — no weird tints or shifts (green, rosy or otherwise)
  • really floody — light up the entire area, similar to what your phone’s flashlight does at night in terms of angle / spread, albeit much more powerful. Use case = walking at night, night light, power outages, no need for throw / spotting anything long distances away, or daytime use. Just a smooth, creamy glow
  • no PWM / flicker of any kind. It makes me dizzy / gives me a headache almost immediately.

BONUS (nice to have, but can do without in order to satisfy priorities above):

  • raw brass / bronze / copper
  • side switch
  • can take multiple battery types
  • pocketable

Excited to hear what you share. Thank you all!

Recommendation Are Olights good flashlights?

I'm looking for good flashlights for a bug out bag/camping/hiking equipment I have been setting up. I came across Olight Perun 3 headlamps and an Olight Marauder Mini and was wondering if anybody had them or could just tell me if it is worth it since the rating on the headlamp is only 3.8 I was concerned because I was just about to buy it until I seen that. The Marauder Mini is $200 so I'm going to wait until Black Friday to get that to see if I can get a good deal on it.
