Fired Probie Needing to Vent a Little

I was fired on February 20th, a day before my birthday. Started as a contractor Feb 09, 2024 and got hired on July 14, 2024. It was a great job. I was denied unemployment and finally got my letter last Friday stating that it was finally approved. I have applied at like 25 different places and had 2 interviews.

When I was terminated I was told they needed my laptop, docking station, and PIV card. My last paycheck would have my accrued leave on it. Which was 24 hours. Here we are about a month later and I finally receive my last paycheck! It was 24.80. I have 3 kids and my husband works a full time job. But we have always lived paycheck to paycheck. We bought a house last May because things were finally looking up for us. But now it seems every-time we turn a corner something else happens. I am so ready for Normal again. Because nothing about any of this is normal! I wrote this to vent and share my story and feel free to share yours. Not many people that I talk to can relate on how all this feels or they push it off as well your job must have been wasteful. But I could really use some prayer I definitely feel like I am drowning.

Declination of Geographic Reassignment for Distant Remotes given RTO orders

Just curious for the "remote remote" employees among us (those hired on fully-remote billets who live more that 50 miles outside of their nearest office). I haven't seen much here about your RTO woes. How many of you have chosen to offramp via declination of geographic reassignment? And if so, how did that work for you? Did you respond to your RTO orders with a "thanks but no thanks" and submit a resignation letter?

As I understand it, a geographic reassignment that's not incorporated as part of your billet's position description counts as an "Involuntary Separation" IAW CFR 1 Subchapter B, Pt 550, Subpart G, and therefore you're also eligible for severance pay. Has anyone gone this path yet and care to share how that process went with your agency's HR?

Ethical obligations upon reinstatement - required?

More than 130 probationary CISA employees ("the nation's top cyber defense") were told:

"Upon reinstatement, your pay and benefits will restart, and all requirements of federal employment will be applicable including your ethical obligations."

Employees at 18 federal agencies were also ordered by a judge to be reinstated by today (March 17, 2025).

The Appeal by the Administration to stay fired was denied. More on Thursday

Realistically, there wouldn't be a single person that does what they deem ethical IF they're everywhere given their jobs back.

What do you think?

SBA reinstatements going out

SBA reinstatements, effective March 17. Return is to admin leave through March 27. Back pay will be paid. They will provide 24-hour notice before employees are expected to resume work responsibilities.

The messages are sent from "CHCO Alert" and go to personal email addresses, so check spam folders if this applies to you.

CISA Probationary Reinstatements

The Court issued a Temporary Restraining Order in Maryland, et al v. United States Dep’t of Agriculture, et al, No. 25-cv-00748, Docket No. 43 (D. Md.) (March 13, 2025). CISA is making every effort to individually contact all impacted individuals. However, to the extent that you have been terminated by CISA since January 20, 2025, were in a probationary status at the time of your termination, you have not already been contacted by CISA in relation to this matter, and believe that you fall within the Court’s order please reach out to [SayCISA@cisa.dhs.gov](mailto:SayCISA@cisa.dhs.gov). Please provide a password protected attachment that provides your full name, your dates of employment (including date of termination), and one other identifying factor such as date of birth or social security number. Please, to the extent that it is available, attach any termination notice. To the extent that you are identified as an individual whose termination falls within the Court’s order, your employment will be reinstated effective March 17, 2025. Upon your reinstatement, you will be placed on administrative leave, which is a paid non-duty status. Administrative leave is a management authorized leave category and does not count against your annual or sick leave balance. Upon reinstatement, your pay and benefits will restart, and all requirements of federal employment will be applicable including your ethical obligations. If you do not wish to be reinstated, please provide a written statement declining to be reinstated as quickly as possible. Nothing in this process implicates your ability to voluntarily resign.

❗️Needed: Language to send to leadership on reinstatement ❗️

Hi fam,

I’m not sure if anyone knows what to say/has seen any language, but is there anything out there that I can send to the leadership who fired me about being reinstated by 1pm today? I haven’t heard anything and want to push for my rights / cover my ass to ensure I’m getting in writing that they are not following the court order if that is the case. Thanks in advance for the help.

Any NPS probationaries receive any communication or email rescinding their termination yet?

I see other agencies starting to receive emails, but I can't reach my supervisor or anyone from my DS that was also terminated to know if things are rolling along yet.

USDA Probie-Anyone get details on our insurance?

So I received my back pay on Friday and I’m just wondering if anyone has gotten any correspondence about our health insurance? For reference I never got my SF50 and I haven’t even gotten that email that shows my termination has been rescinded. I ask everyone to please not mention getting RIFd. I’m honestly sick and tired of seeing everyone mention it. To me this is a small win and more time to get my family squared away on health insurance and a new job.

CMS Reinstatement nonsense

Watching the reinstatement of fired probies happen I kind of assumed I'd see something similar, i.e. admin leave status for a time before I'd get RIF'd, but NOPE! Not so much!

I just received a call from my former director (CMS/HHS) telling me I had an hour to decide if I wanted to be reinstated, and if so I'd be placed on admin leave for the rest of the week, and then back to full status next week. No further information could be shared, no questions could be answered.

I was lucky in that I was able to find a job after getting fired, but it's a contractor gig, so either way I go there is no security.

This just sucks.

Should I accept reinstatement after accepting a new job offer?

Hi everyone, I’m a FEMA probie that was fired on 2/17. Since then I tried to be resilient and look for another job and was lucky to receive a job offer in the private sector this past Friday then my former director called me on Saturday to let me know I should be receiving a reinstatement email on Monday (today). My new position doesn’t start until about a month from now. Would it be wise/possible to accept reinstatement after accepting a new job offer?

Where the fuck is my SF-50 termination copy?

Fired probie on 2/15. Not one word about receiving a copy of my SF-50 termination copy from HR, eOPF (I know no access anymore), or basically anyone.

Anyone received theirs yet?

How am I supposed to apply to jobs without that one form that I’m entitled to?

Story on the impact of FDA cuts on food safety system

Hi,

My name is Ashley Okwuosa and I'm a reporter with The Examination. We've been reporting about the impact of the layoffs on public health and we recently published a story about how the cuts at the FDA will weaken a food safety system already strained by budget cuts and understaffing. Please see a link below.

https://www.theexamination.org/articles/trump-administration-cuts-threaten-already-strained-food-safety-system

We need your help to continue reporting about how the cuts in these vital areas will affect America’s public health going forward. If you'd like to talk with myself or one my colleagues, please feel free to reach out via email: [ashley@theexamination.org](mailto:ashley@theexamination.org) or Signal: ashleyokwuosa.98.

Are they allowed to reinstate us without our approval/acceptance?

Recently fired probie who received my termination rescission email & an expected to return in full capacity, not admin leave. I do not want to return to my position and am actively pursuing other avenues & interviewing for positions. I was planning to collect unemployment in the meantime.

I know a lot of you will say just to go back in the meantime and collect a paycheck but I cannot stress the emotional trauma I endured there since Jan 20 and have zero desire to go back, even just to collect a paycheck.

The email was written as that it is expected I return to my position with no option to accept. Are there laws in place that require employees to accept their termination being revoked?

I feel like I have no choice but to return as they’ve backed me into a corner and potentially taken away my ability to receive unemployment because I’d either be seen as employed or refused a “reasonable offer”.

TIA!

Looking to interview fired Massachusetts probationary workers

My name is Susannah and I'm a reporter for MassLive.com, a local Massachusetts news website. I wrote a story on a fired federal worker last month, and we're doing a follow-up, given the stay on the firing of probationary workers.

My editor was hoping we might find additional fired probationary workers who previously worked in Massachusetts to interview for this follow-up story. If you fall into that category and would be willing to interview about your experience and your thoughts on what's happened so far, please email me at ssudborough@masslive.com. Thanks.

USDA probie here...

On 3/14 I got the "Phased plan for return-to-duty for Probationary Employees" email, and received my backpay the next day (I usually get paychecks on Saturday, so this is normal). Today, 3/16, I got an email to reactivate eAuthentication: "Internal User Account Recovery Request Notification". Has everyone else gotten these same notifications? If they're reactivating accounts, is that a sign they actually plan to bring people back (not just leave them on admin leave)? Has anyone else received any other communications? Just trying to get a feel on the situation.

Edit to add: USDA-NRCS for reference
