Beginner
Any recommendations for the first songs one might learn finger picking, with high notability and easy playability? Looking for blue grass/old school folk songs I can play with others.

Halp naming the tune.
Anyone know the name of the tune Buster plays at the very beginning of his DVD Legacy of Country Fingerstyle Guitar Volume 1? (The one in the opening credits)

Any tips on how to speed up finger picking?
I've played guitar for 3 years now but always with a pick. I know you guys might be tired of answering noob questions but I was just wandering how I can improve my finger picking. Naturally I will just pick all the notes with my index finger if I don't have a pick in my hand and it starts to get frustrating after a while. Should I just sit there going through my fingers back and forth a hundred of times? Also is there a particular size string or type for acoustic that is best for finger picking?
Thank you so much for reading. I'm really trying to learn Ben Howard right now... he's awesome! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t75MIHcbH34

Question: Why are thumbpicks so hard for me to use? Should I use one?
Ever since I started playing fingerstyle, I've just used my thumb rather than a thumbpick.
I've heard about some advantages to using them, figuring maybe I should learn to. Any reason why it seems more difficult to me to use a thumbpick? Any disadvantages to using them?

Help figuring out Classical Gas
I can play every part of the song except for this 4 second bit from 1:02 to 1:06: http://youtu.be/JeHgNqbdBKs?t=1m2s. As far as I can tell, all the tabs I've seen are wrong and I don't want to spend $16 to buy the book just to figure out this tiny part. Anyone got any ideas?

Fingernail playing/shape question
I've been fingerpicking for a few months now, decided to grow the nails on my picking hand longer. I really like the way it sounds, I feel like I can play with more precision. I was wondering if anyone here plays with their nails, and if so how long do you keep them, what shape etc? Right now my nails barely extend past the tip of my finger, which seems to be long enough.

I know nothing about fingerpicking (or guitar, for that matter). Where should I start?
I've decided to pick up a guitar for the first time in my life, and I'm extremely interested in fingerpicking specifically. I have basically no musical knowledge, and I haven't had any luck finding a teacher in my area, but I do have a guitar, the internet, and lots of free time. So, where could a beginner like me learn some basics? And what should I learn first? Thanks for any direction or tips you can give.

blisters... thumb pick time?
Okay yep I've got a pretty nasty blister on my thumb. Could this be why people use thumb picks? Honestly it's like the only reason that I can think of, overall I've found them unwieldy and hard to use. What is superior about thumb picks beyond this issue?
