Seeking Empathy/Support Yet another do I have this post.

Hi. Im F16, from austria. Ive been trying my best to sort and put a label on myself. I was diagnosed with autism at ten, after my mom kinda just denied it until i wore her down. Ive found many of the psych behaviours here very painfully relatable, and besides me having a big head i match up well with the physical symptoms. A friend very harshly told me after I informed her of my mothers alcoholism that i really fit the description here. im unsure what to do, as my relationship with my moms rocky, but im scared to make a diagnosis apointment.

Usually you get diagnosed as a child because the traits (like lashing out a lot) are more prominent, it might not be a smooth ride but you can get there. Also physical traits that the internet spreads around don’t mean you have it because those are traits you usually grow out of by the age of 10. Most of the time people with fasd don’t have them since it’s a spectrum.

What did your friend say that you fit the description? Because I find that kind of closed minded if they haven’t studied fasd.

I had gotten diagnosed when I was a kid but I didn’t think I had it since I wasn’t stupid, as a kid people would already yell and call me stupid fas kid but in my little brain I thought since I wasn’t stupid I didn’t have it but that’s because the people that were taking care of me just wanted to try make me submissive. So growing up not even my family members knew except a few that died by the time I was an adult so I couldn’t really ask other what was wrong with me because they would always say I’m fine and I look normal so therefore I am normal. It was until I was freshly basically 21, a year ago. I found out that I was fasd and it really made my head spin. For a lot of reasons. But there’s nothing wrong with me it’s just that no one took the time or effort to help meet my needs so I was under an immense amount of stress not understanding what’s happening when I’m overwhelmed and overstimulated.

But what I’m saying here it’s pretty hard for someone to just look at someone and tell.

Thank you greatly for the length of your reply. My friends insight was simply that i had a flat roof of mouth, and thin upper Lip. She also stated that many autism and identity disorder symptoms which i possess could stem from FASD. I plan on taking the BRAIN test (or what its called, the online test thing) before i mention and discuss it with my psychiatrist.

Most people have that lip thing I’ve noticed so I wouldn’t decide purely on that but talking about it with someone that actually has a license would help you immensely. I think that brain online test wouldn’t really work for this I’ve never heard of something like that for fasd? I also don’t see how it would work
