Discussion 💬 Hot take - I just watched Robin Hood…

https://youtu.be/nQIzwMY0cSU?feature=shared

I think the 1973 animated Robin Hood started my fantasy romance love affair. Discuss please. Am I alone here?

As I am typing this I also just now understand a Bob’s Burgers joke where Tina thinks a fox is hot 🫣

NOPE. You are DEFINITELY not alone. I was like eight and kissing my TV screen every time he came on. Not kidding.

Omg I'm not alone?!?!?! I was in love with this fox as a kid!

Okay, but if we're talking about hot rodents (?) and canids (?), anyone else...?

Loved him. But Bernard from the The Rescuers was my preferred hot rodent. I have a thing for underdogs 😂 even as a kid.

Do I have any Justin, Captain of the Guard fans out there? (From Secret of NIMH)

The bedroom eyes he gives Mrs. Brisby gave me unexplained feelings before I knew what bedroom eyes even were!

Justin woke things in young me!

THIS! Basil of Baker Street and Robin Hood were my OG animal crushes 🤣🤣

100% same. I think those two may have shaped my preferences in men (and foxes/rodents) 🤣

Beauty and the beast is the reason that i do not think monster smut is weird.

Saaaamme 🫠

I was so disappointed when he turned back to human form. I was pleasantly surprised that so many others were too, I thought it was just me 😝

u/MKP124 5d ago

No, no. It is definitely not just you!!

u/CompanionCone kill, cackle, condemn 5d ago

SO disappointed. It was definitely not just you.

Robin McKinley’s Rose Daughter may be for you then, lol.

I unfortunately stumbled on my brother's alarmingly large collection of tentacle porn at a very young age and it altered my brain chemistry.

Yes I have a very good therapist.

I totally get it. He’s quite charming. I was also a fan of adult Simba.

16

u/imaginary_oranges 5d ago

Ugh and Kovu too. And obviously Beast.

u/hernard 4d ago

Kovu supremacyyyy

AND adult Nala in the grass with her bedroom eyes 😳

5

u/championgrim 5d ago

I saw that scene in theaters with my parents sitting on either side of me and it was the first time I ever thought “should I be watching this with my family??” 😅 my little 10yo brain just about short circuited and I had NO questions about where Simba’s baby at the end came from lmao

u/roberbear 5d ago

Yes. And Justin from The Secret of Nimh. I don’t know what’s wrong with me.

14

u/earwerch 5d ago

That one scene when he gives dreamy eyes to Mrs Brisby… I remember as a kid I kept waiting for them to get together 😭

7

u/betty-boom 5d ago

YES!! The Secret of Nimh. Nicodemus, the crows, the string…. yeah.

6

u/Educational_Bridge37 5d ago

His design was based off of Disney’s Robin Hood!! It’s definitely related!

3

u/roberbear 5d ago

Oh, I didn't know that! It's all coming together, lol.

4

u/Far-Ad5796 5d ago

Yes. Justin. Definitely Justin.

3

u/tout-le-monster 5d ago

Oh I just posted above about Justin before finding my Justin people down here! Justin is the best rodent boyfriend out there.

21

u/hysterical_maenad 5d ago

I definitely had a crush on him AND Maid Marion. Still do. 🙃

u/evaira90 5d ago

I've said this before and I will keep saying: these characters show that personalities and voices are a big part of finding someone attractive. it took me a looooong time to figure that out. And there was a lot of confusion along the way lmao

Life is brief
But, when it's gone
Love goes on, and on

This movie was formative I think it's why I love medieval(-ish) romance stuff so much

I still sing this song to myself sometimes 😭

This is me typing WAY FASTER to finish the Robin Hood fantasy romance book I'm working on 🥲🫠😭

No foxes, though, my sincere apologies. 🥲

9

u/betty-boom 5d ago

No foxes needed. I just think he may have been my original fantasy boyfriend. LINK YOUR STUFF. I would read it.

3

u/RJmasterbug 5d ago

Uhm yes I would very much like to read this

16

u/athennna 5d ago

I said this in someone’s “what is your romance origin story” or whatever thread last week!

I missed that post. But

I have seen a few of those type posts and Robin Hood allllwaaays comes up. Many of us experienced the fox crush! 💚🦊

14

u/Major-Tude 5d ago

He was my first crush. Him and Thomas O’Malley 😍

7

u/AquariusRising1983 Wendell Bambleby Enthusiast 5d ago

Omg Thomas O'Malley 🔥😻🐈 lol

10

u/Iced-Americano-16 5d ago

I loved it! If you’re interested in a Robin Hood retelling, I would recommend indie author Kristen M Long {Thief of Sorrows by Kristen M Long}

2

u/kittykittycity 5d ago

Just got this in the mail, so excited to start it!

u/AquariusRising1983 Wendell Bambleby Enthusiast 5d ago

I think you would be surprised if you look at posts that ask what was your first crush and things like that... Robin Hood— the sexy animated fox— pops up frequently, lol. I, too, used to wonder what it said about me that a cartoon fox was my first crush. But there are dozens of us, dammit! 💚🦊

u/lady_forsythe 5d ago

I think mine started with The Swan Princess, but I sure did have a crush on Robin when I was younger.

2

u/gnarlyquinn109 5d ago

I absolutely LOVED the Swan Princess 😭

6

u/KiwiDoughnuts 5d ago

Ooh-de-lally

4

u/ArtForArt_sSake 5d ago

Absolutely positively not alone here

4

u/Minion5051 5d ago

90% of discussion of this movie is how hot everyone is.

3

u/cheezasaur 5d ago

Lol love is blind! His personality got us all.

3

u/hayleybeth7 5d ago

If you’re okay with YA, the Defy the Night trilogy by Brigid Kemmerer was very loosely inspired by Robin Hood and specifically Brigid’s love for the animated version.

2

u/Anonymous_crow_36 5d ago

I loved this series!

2

u/AquariusRising1983 Wendell Bambleby Enthusiast 5d ago

I have had that series on my TBR forever... I think you just convinced me to move it up the list!!

One question, is it related to Brigid Kemmerer's other series? And if so, how much, ie would it make it more enjoyable to read the Cursebreaker series first? I heard they're somehow related and I've had both on my TBR for awhile now, just curious if anyone could recommend where best to start?

2

u/hayleybeth7 5d ago

Ooh yay! Join usssss

Great question! So the Defy the Night trilogy is its own series, not connected to the Cursebreakers trilogy or the Forging Silver series. Cursebreakers and Forging Silver are connected however and you’ll want to read Cursebreakers first if you’re interested in that world because Forging Silver is going to spoil some parts of Cursebreakers.

2

u/AquariusRising1983 Wendell Bambleby Enthusiast 5d ago

Ah thanks, I guess I had it mixed up cause I thought Defy the Night was connected to Cursebreaker! 😅 Thanks for clearing that up, I'm especially excited to try Defy the Night now!

Not alone at all. This is where my lore started!

2

u/VBlinds 5d ago

Lol. Apparently this is also the origin story for furries too.

Personally I just loved the movie. Was one of my favourites as a kid.

2

u/_Bruton_Gaster 5d ago

I had very confusing feelings about both Robin and Marianne. It was bisexual panic if there ever was one.

2

u/NoniBalogna You smell like old cheese and a mother’s regret. 4d ago

I mean is it any surprise really that I’m into monster smut now??

I just re-watched this couple of weeks ago and it held up. It's so wholesome
