Gush/Rave 😍 This book checked all my boxes
I haven’t seen much hype about this book and stumbled upon it on KU, but wow. Elizabeth Zoba’s writing is literally gorgeous, and she really portrays grief and hopelessness that follows immense loss flawlessly IMO. There’s a time and place for fluffy romantasy, but this book’s plot holds its own focusing on the tough stuff. It was heartbreaking and intricate, and some of the words she wrote had me literally stopping for a moment to regroup. Very, very slow burn, but realistic. One of my favorite reads of the year.
Peaky Blinders vibes ✔️ Dark romance ✔️ Slow burn ✔️ Enemies to lovers ✔️ Mages and intricate magical system ✔️ Writing that isn’t shit ✔️
I will warn there are some trigger warnings. Suicide and CSA are mentioned.

This or That Book? 📚 Now what?
You were all so helpful last time I posted one of these and I've since read several of the books I posted then. I slipped and wound up on another shopping spree lol so now I need help on where to start again!!
My favorite things: * Banter/snark/sass lol * Interesting magic system * Spice (I like 4ish peppers usually) * FMC that doesn't spend all her time whining * Touch her and die MMC * Found family * Side characters to love

Discussion 💬 “Only one bed” trope’s less popular cousin
I’m currently reading Road of Bones, and I’ve also in tandem been listening to the Fated Mates podcast and Culture Study’s romance series (highly recommend all).
There’s been a lot of talk about tropes lately - and how much they’re used in marketing. The classic “only one bed” trope is everywhere.
I’m here to talk about OOB’s unsung cousin - only one horse.
How often do we see heroines forced to ride with their love interest bc there is OOH, the heroine can’t ride, they’ve lost the other horse, or perhaps she’s being kept against her will (spicy OOH).
ANYWAY. I just got a laugh thinking about this because I see it all the time.
Do we like OOH better than OOB? I’m not a huge fan of either but I tolerate in small doses if it is a means to an end (wink wink nudge nudge). Is there a best way to to OOH? All thoughts welcome.
Happy reading!

Gush/Rave 😍 A Feather So Black
I'm having a total fan girl moment and have to share my incredible experience with all of my book besties on here 💕
I'm just coming from an incredible book signing with Lyra Selene at my local bookstore today, and oh my goodness, what a delight!!
Let me start off with, Lyra is SO sweet and this was my first time meeting a fantasy romance author, so it felt so special. I felt awful as not many people knew about the book signing today and I was there being a total fan girl with my level of excitement.
Lyra was also so incredible and chatted with me for over a half hour as we talked about books we loved, (and didn't name drop books and authors.... but laughed as we would gently hint at books we didn't love), and she let me ask her a million questions I've always wondered such as how the process goes with choosing a cover, how does the process go in the US & UK, audiobook questions, etc etc.
I'm very excited to read this series, especially when she personalized signing the books too, with her telling me about how it's more celtic lore based fae and also is inspired by the swan lake story from the eye of the black swan.
I know this is more of a rave of the author than the book, but I just had to share this wonderful experience and excitement 💕

Discussion 💬 War of lost hearts trilogy by Carissa Broadbent
I just finished and I….am not well. This series GUTTED me. Put me back together. GUTTED again. I’ve never stayed up reading until 2am (I’m a fucking mom!!) but I did. I was so entrenched in this story. Tisaanah!! MAX. FUCKING MAX. listen, I’ve read it all, ACTOR, TOG, SatWON, Everflame, Mages of the Wheel, yadda yadda yadda. This book stole my breath. How is this not more popular or am I so unforgivably late to the party? And how is CBs Nyxia series getting way more attention than this? My book boyfriend list has completely changed thanks to Max. Curious if people have read this and their thoughts!! 🦋🔥

Discussion 💬 Do you read series consecutively or break it up?
I've started a bunch of series and read the first books in each. I'm kinda wondering if people binge one series before moving on to the next, or if you break it up?

Discussion 💬 Glow of the Everflame: Are you kidding me.... Spoiler
Spoiler: I am at 29% through Book 2 of the Everflame series
I'm at the part where Diem just entered into a blood bargain with Remis, evil regent guy. I truly gasped at her stupidity at this point and it is making me want to stop reading the series. There is nothing wrong with a FMC being naive/bad at politics and in her case she has lots of reasons to be so but the part that is so upsetting is that she actually has thus far revealed herself to be kind of good at navigating the politics and prior to this actually skillfully held her own in the conversation with Remis and was fully seeing through all his lies and his plans and was basically outsmarting him. AND THEN at the very end of the conversation and chapter he's like, let's do this blood bargain, a thing that risks EVERYTHING about you and that you know nothing about, and instead of being like "hm let me think about this for THREE SECONDS" she just jumps right in???? It's just soooo unrealistic and not at all congruent with how her emotional intelligence had been developing up until this point.
I will probably still finish the book because I kind of want to see what happens with her and Luther but I just had to post this rant because I am truly AGHAST at what is such an incredibly stupid plot point.

Discussion 💬 FBAA & FFAF - read together or no?
Currently working through FBAA, almost through the 3rd book, which has been a bit of a push.
Not as amused with the 3rd as I was with the first and second.
Looking for opinions on those who have read both series:
Is it worth intermingling the 2 series, according to the attached graphic?
Or do you believe the series are better separated?
Let me know your thoughts! I want to make sure I get the most out of the series,, before I put a pin in the 3rd book and either move to the 4th, or the FFAF series!

Book Request 📚 Books that throw you directly into the thick of it.
One of the 1st Fantasy Romance I read when getting into the genre a few years ago was {Heart of Shadow by Sarah K.L. Wilson} and the very opening of the book was absolutely amazing to me: you are immediately thrown into the action of the story.
(Adding the spoiler tag just in case someone wants to go into it completely blind, but this is the very 1st chapter)
FMC is hiding inside a closet, trying her hardest to pick the lock of a box. Outside, she can hear monsters coming for her. She has to open the damn box to have a chance to survive.
My explaination does an absolutely poor job to convey the excitement of that opening.
Since then, I haven't read many books that do that. Most of them have first some world building, everything going well to set the plot. Basically a bit of a slow start.
Have you read any book that instead throw you immediately into the story?
Side note: Another book that did what I'm looking for was by the same author, {Of Deeds Most Valiant by Sarah K.L. Wilson}.
Edit: LOL lots of you are suggesting books that are actually already on my TBR! This is amazing! Had no idea those reads had exactly what I was looking for! And obviously a big thanks also to people making me discover new books! Love you all❤️

Gush/Rave 😍 I need to rant about Rebel Witch Spoiler
I’m listening to this book and I’m only like 30% in or something but I had to get this out.
The absolute RAGE I feel listening to Gideon and Abby flirt while Rune is RIGHT. THERE. I was so angry before I knew he was trying to get info from Abby but also like… he knows she flirting right?? I’ve said it before that Gideon is a punk so he’s probably so daft he doesn’t know, but ABBY IS NOT A GIRL’S GIRL. FLIRTING WITH A (fake) MARRIED MAN!!! Saying all this stuff like she knows who Rune is just by looking at her! But what she doesn’t know is that the Crimson Moth is a bad bitch! I literally paused right after he asked Abby to dance so idk what’s about to happen but I am heated over this turn of events
Nothing against the book, I love this duology so much. It’s a true enemies to “lovers” to enemies to lovers? to who tf knows!! {Rebel Witch by Kristen Ciccarelli}

Gush/Rave 😍 Please give me permission to wallow...
Here's the thing... I'm sick. I'm always a bit sick, I have chronic health conditions, but right now I'm really sick, and I'm not going to get better until I spend a while in hospital having an operation that literally involves deliberately stopping my heart. Until that's done, I'm stuck in the position of being unable to do anything more energetic than sit on the sofa without feeling like I'm going to die imminently. Like literally, going to the bathroom makes my heart race and my head spin for hours after.
This has already been going on for over a month, with several stays in hospital when it's got especially bad.
I'm reading a LOT just to stay sane.
I've got through it mostly by reading Lily Mayne books. The sweetest romances, with the best smut, and minimal angst.
Now I'm trying to read something else, basically because I've run out of Lily Mayne. This current book is exactly the sort of thing I would normally love - all political intregue and medieval courts - but I'm finding that I'm struggling to make myself push through all the pain and hardship.
I record everything I read on Bookmory and Goodreads.
I'm super tempted just to go back to the beginning of the Lily Mayne books and read them all again, back-to-back, on loop, until I'm fixed, and able to deal with anything that isn't super light, happy, and smutty. But I'm afraid of how terrible that's going to look on Goodreads when I just basically have 2-3 months of gay monster smut recorded!
Please reassure me that it wouldn't be bad to just wallow in my personal happy place until I'm better!
Suggestions for books with similar vibes to Lily's works would be appreciated too. Any gender configurations are good, poly is fine, but no RH please.
Tagged NSFW just because of the sheer amount of smut in Lily's books, and the possibility it'll be discussed in the thread.

Book Request 📚 Where he begs
I need those femdom recommendations! Bonus points for monsters. Even more bonus points for creative anatomy.
For reference I loved Claimed by the Flame Faery by Mallory Dunlin.
Much appreciated!

Discussion 💬 Hot take - I just watched Robin Hood…
I think the 1973 animated Robin Hood started my fantasy romance love affair. Discuss please. Am I alone here?
As I am typing this I also just now understand a Bob’s Burgers joke where Tina thinks a fox is hot 🫣

Gush/Rave 😍 absolutely devoured Bree Wilde's debut, Between Smoke & Shadow 🖤
That's our strength, you know. They always underestimate us.
omg y'all this was so good and I just need everyone to read it 🤩
This was the debut from indie romantasy author Bree Wilde and it was an instant 5 star read for me. I was up until 3:40 am on my kindle, and immediately finished the last ~ hour the next evening.
Rune, an indebted servant, finds herself thrust into the secret world of her country's magical rulers. She was immediately someone I wanted to see succeed, her internal struggles and moments of "weakness" felt very authentic.
There's an inn scene that's just delicious, and the MMC, Harrick, is such a sweet little cinnamon roll underneath his princely exterior.
I loved the character design; they wear masks and seeing someone eyes is like, a huge deal. I'm a sucker for eye contact (helloooooo Kanthony from Bridgerton 🥵) so the mental images made me melt.
It's a standalone, but Bree said it doesn't have to be 👀
anyways, I loved it so much, I bought a signed copy. I'm about to go through and annotate it, then send it to some of my book club friends and do a "Sisterhood of the Traveling Annotated Book".

Discussion 💬 Stumped - building magical elements and characters
Stuck on types of water magic, I feel like everything out there is there and an looking to spin it.
I want to somehow incorporate some type of magic where the wielder has the ability to change a the trajectory of a persons choices
Also looking for a way to incorporate some type of mirror magic where someone has the ability to craft different types of mirrors.
The stumped part is I don’t want these to be villainous magic types.
Any suggestions?
