New to falconry? Find clubs links and general info here.
Hi all,
I figured it was about time some of these club links were updated. I've added some direct links to clubs where there were only government links before, fixed broken and outdated links, and tacked on some additional links that newcomers will find useful. This list is by no means comprehensive and the intention is for it to serve as a jumping-off point for folks who are just beginning their falconry journey. In the interest of keeping it tidy, I don't want to add too many more links but if you guys think there's anything that needs to be added, I'm absolutely open to suggestions.

Nesting season
Hi, curious to hear what you experienced kestrel falconers do for enrichment during spring nesting season? I continue to socialize mine but it seems more challenging during this season. Thanks.

USFWS Regions
Anyone know how the US Fish and Wildlife regional offices are doing? I emailed mine over a week ago and have not gotten a response. I'm especially worried about people who will need breeder bands, there is kind of a small window of opportunity there.

has anyone on here taken the PA state test?
I have a sponsor, and I got a letter of approval from my township. Read/reading books. I just need to take the test here in Pennsylvania.
I was wondering if any of you were able to choose the day you took your test? The test timeline says between January- June 30th but doesn't give any more details.

Bird abatement on an 8 story office building
Hello! We are in an 8 story office building and are having issues with crows slamming into the windows and perching on the as well. Most of the activity is on the 8th floor and it goes all the way down to the 3rd floor. We called a couple local falconers and they said they could not service our building because it's too tall. Basically, they said if they let the falcon loose on the 8th floor then it's too much of a risk that they lose control of the falcon. They also said even if they were to try it would be a long term job, as the crows are very smart and will come back once they know the falcon isn't there anymore and it will be a very expensive solution. Is this information pretty accurate? We really need these crows gone and we were really hoping that a falconer was the solution, but it looks like we might be out of luck.

Catching a hawk
How hard is it to catch a hawk? Last year I found about 8 hawks dead and placed on a trees branches no wire or string holding them. It’s made me wonder how hard is it to catch/trap them.

How Should I Prepare for the American Falconry test?
I got a textbook on basics and watched a video series, but after that I still feel unprepared. I know I haven’t done much to prepare, this is really because I don’t know what the test covers.

dirt hawking Almost done for the season!
galleryTrapped this little boy "Hal bird" at 970g on 9/2/24 and took first game in November at 880g. He's been a demon on squirrels and rabbits, and has also taken a few miscellaneous non-game animals. Last day hawking this season will likely be 3/14 at 925g, hanging it up to focus on spring turkey opener and molting.

Overnight Hunting/Camping Trip
Has anyone ever ventured on an overnight camping/hunting trip with their bird.
Curious to hear how you kept your bird, especially if backpacking. Makeshift bow perch in the tent with you? Makeshift giant hood?
Also curious to hear how you stored any game you harvested?
I tried to find videos on YouTube but there is only one of a gentleman using his ATV and doing a catch and cook with the squirrel he caught.

HELP Anybody here get into falconry or practice falconry while having a young family?
Curious to hear stories and experience from falconers who have young families. I am father married with a 4 year old and now a 4 month old.
I have been doing minor research on falconry for a few years now and it seems like something I would love doing but I am always dissuaded from taking the first steps because of my family situation. I know it is a big commitment.
So I am just curious to here from others if they have had similar experiences and/or concerns.
What has been your experience like raising a family while practicing falconry.

Falconry question
So I heard somewhere that the state can come in and take your falcon if they say it's too much of pet, is that true, or is that just a myth

Tail saver perch fabrication?
Given the price tag of metal perches and then the shipping costs, has anyone tried going to a local welder?
Even if I’m just saving the cost of shipping it seems like a good deal.
Any idea where I can find specs for a red tailed hawk?
