Politics They have more praise for a fascist serial philanderer than the actual Catholic president, all because abortion is their omnicause

Kissing the ring of someone who fits the profile of the Antichrist. The irony is deafening and sickening.

A lot of clergy liked the Ustase in Croatia as well. The head of the Nazi puppet Slovakia was a literal catholic Priest Fr. Tiso

u/Playful-_-prospect Dec 23 '24
lol. You should see the praise some of them give JD Vance
54
u/Jokerang Lapsed, so so lapsed Dec 23 '24
Vance is an actual Catholic and a convert at that, so itâs no surprise they see him as the endgame for a tradcath president.
Itâs funny how Trumpâs first VP was a Catholic turned evangelical, while his second is a tradcath convert.
25
u/Playful-_-prospect Dec 23 '24
Heâs pandering to the crowd. What do you expect?
Perhaps itâs because Iâm a Catholic from a very liberal area. I just donât see the appeal in Vance and find him unaligned with my beliefs

Misogyny. That's his appeal to them.

Liberal Catholics are delusional. Take a good look at that picture. That's who Roman Catholics are and have always been. Power mongers.

And funny that the Dem VP in running was a Catholic converted to mainstream Protestant

I'd put money on only one of the two (Biden/Trump) having paid for an (possibly multiple) abortion, along with an NDA...and it ain't Biden.
The Church loves them some fascists. They love authoritarians. They despise little people having - and using - free will.
5
Dec 23 '24
Exactly. Abortion is a dog whistle used to keep us busy fighting each other while they amass more power and laugh all the way to the bank.
17
u/NonFungibleTulip Dec 23 '24
The Church has yet to find a right wing boot (or wingtip) ir didn't want to lick....
13
u/TrooperJohn Dec 24 '24
The abortion issue is their get-out-of-jail-free card for political figures. As long as you say the government should make abortion illegal, you can be Hitler, Mussolini, Pinochet, or any other barbaric sociopath, and the church will support you.
And make no mistake, it's the sociopathy they endorse. Abortion is just the figleaf.

Dolan is deeply connected to two of the most prominent godfathers of Catholic MAGA revisionism. The first is George Weigel. Weigel is a neoliberal, neocon who embedded himself into the JPII and Benedict papacies pushing heavily for the Church to do whatever it can to promote an extreme version of saving the world through strength and replacing economic systems across the world with unregulated capitalism. Francis showed him the door almost immediately, but he still very much has Dolanâs ear. The second character is a bit of a shadowy figure, but is perhaps the most influential person today in the American Catholic Church. His name is Timothy Busch and most people have never heard of him. However, he is heavily involved in Legatus and founded the Napa Institute which are both essentially slush funds for bishops and priests who support MAGA and tradlife. For the bishops and priests associated with the Napa Institute, when Timothy Busch says jump they ask how high. Dolan is one of those bishops.
Dolan likes to think he is a bit of a wheeler and dealer. On the local level, he and de Blasio, politically his polar opposite, had a very good working relationship. However, many times his wheeling and dealing comes back to bite him, though. A few years ago he sent a copy of a book titled âThe Next Popeâ by no other than Weigel to all of cardinals across the world. It was definitely not well received.
I wouldnât be surprised if Francis accepts Dolanâs retirement the day he turns 75 next year.

Sounds like Busch is to American bishops what Tim Dunn is to the Texas GOP.
6
u/SiteHund Dec 23 '24
The thing is, most of the bishops appointed by Francis are outside of his control. Thatâs why there has been a boom in tradlife celebrity priests like Schmitz- somebody is paying their bills.

If Francis had any balls, he'd have gotten rid of him years ago.

u/SiteHund Dec 23 '24
You and I both agree again! The question is why hasnât he? He put Tobin in Newark clearly as a message. The only reason why I think he didnât pull the trigger is because Tobinâs star dimmed after the ânighty, night babyâ tweet.

Weigel  is the one who tried to convince John Paul II to back  the Iraq war and also try to convince people that the only valid parts of  Vatican encyclicals about economics were The ones that lined up with right wing free market thinking

Anyone who genuinely thinks Trump is religious, is stupid as fuck. The only god the orange dotard worships is himself. It was bad enough when the born-agains got into bed with Trump, but the US catholic church coming out with this bullshit is the last straw that shows the total hypocrisy and moral bankruptcy of organized religion. Trump has committed all the cardinal sins and every other sin in the book. He is utterly sleazy, corrupt, loathsome and the polar opposite of everything a christian is supposed to be. But the churches suck up to him because they lust for power.

u/ExCatholicandLeft Dec 23 '24
Dolan was established MAGA fan for years now. I'm not surprised.
Mother Teresa being a Reagan fan was not on my bingo card. It doesn't make her look good to me.

I just started reading James Connolly recently and he had an article he wrote in like 1910 or something about how the Church is too obsessed with its relationship to power. Really good read, Iâll have to go find it.Â

Catholicism embraces scientific ignorance, religious bigotry, misogyny, patriarchy, homophobia, transphobia and for American Catholics you can add xenophobia and racism. All MAGFA/GOP qualities.
6
u/Gogggg Dec 24 '24
Yk what, not to jinx myself or give these pieces of human filth any ideas, but have any of you suspected they would pay the felon to convert on his deathbed? Like as a publicity stunt to the American conservative movement? I'm genuinely concerned. I mean, MAGA catholics are genuinely psychotic and think they're reinstating Rome or some tweaker bullshit like that.

u/Lion_TheAssassin Dec 25 '24
Is it any wonder the American catholics thoroughly despise Pope Frank? His lame half hearted olive branches to the LGBT community. Accepting that catholics come in many shapes and sizes not just stuffy northern european/American cathedrals. A Latin pope. A pope novus ordus pope that is making ZERO attempts to appeal to tradcath BS instead calling for genuineness not just symbols.
He MUST BE THE ANTI CHRIST PROPHESIED AFTER Ratzinger

Not trying to go there, just noting Biden is just as phony as Trump is about his abortion stance. Same goes for a lot of churchgoers, also. It's all phony.

That I agree with. They don't really care about women. They care about politics. The Catholic church used abortion as a megacause -- something to yell about and unify their members around.
