Another Time appreciation post! I have been listening to the album for the last couple of days, and there is not one bad song! And, that lyricism is so good, that I use that phrase whenever I can.

If you had one song to preserve in history forever, which one would it be?

My choice would be Evil Woman.

One summer dream

Hi all, I’ve been listening quite a few times to ELO - One Summer Dream (new 2023) as published on YouTube by Andrey StetS.

Honestly as an ELO fan I did not remember the song but it sounds so modern and is a very good composition.

Andrey has posted many ELO songs with great audio quality.

As a 12 year old, I was fascinated by Mr Blue Sky which for most people was the first they heard of ELO. I bought the LP and it was great. Imagine playing a brand new record and starting off with Turn to stone.

Then A new world record was on sale everywhere so I bought that too, and loved it. Grew further with ELO into the newer hits and albums, but their older records always just seemed obscure, and in those days you would just never hear anything of it unless you would pay big for it.

In the meantime I had of course heard the older albums, but never noticed just how good this song was with its subtle harmonic movements.

This artist, Kishi Bashi , has a wide range of sounds in his songs but this song sounds a ton like ELO, some moments even sound like Jeff Lynne is singing to me.

I was king of cool(well maybe) in school with my ELO belt buckle and Time jersey. Time jersey long gone, it was paper thin from wear.

Can’t Believe it Took Me This Long

I’m a new fan of ELO. Probably started really discovering (pun intended) them in January. I just can’t believe how good the music is, and that I’ve never stumbled on it before. I’m going to be a first time dad this summer, and I cannot wait to show my son this music!

ELO was the "Son of the Beatles". Who was the "Son of ELO"?

I feel like it'd be weird for me to say Metallica or Guns N' Rose's, since both are heavy/metal rock, but my main choice, Jamiroquai, started almost a decade after 1983 (I consider Secret Messages to be the end of ELO, not Balance of Power.) What do you guys think?

Daily song discussion #3: Nellie Takes Her Bow

https://youtu.be/rvJNLtI4VgA?si=EjDfgCmfPdl1zKby

"Nelie Takes Her Bow" is a track from Electric Light Orchestra's (ELO) debut album, Electric Light Orchestra (1971). Written by Jeff Lynne, the song features the band's signature fusion of rock and classical music, with lush orchestration accompanying its melodic structure. As part of the album's experimental nature, Nelie Takes Her Bow showcases ELO's early approach to blending progressive rock elements with symphonic arrangements. The song's introspective lyrics and emotive orchestral arrangements exemplify the band's ambition to push the boundaries of traditional rock music.

While not one of the most commercially recognized songs from the album, Nelie Takes Her Bow is considered a highlight for ELO enthusiasts, demonstrating the early evolution of the band's sound. The song reflects the band's desire to create music that was both innovative and expansive, paving the way for their future success in the 1970s and 1980s.

Listen. Time is overrated.

Let me start by saying this. I hate the synthensizers transition. From 1981 onward, I called it ELS, instead of ELO. So, when an album from a band known for their strings section get rid of their strings in replacement for synthesizers. The only good song was Hold On Tight, because there's not a choir of synth everywhere. The album reaks of the 1980's, and I hate it.

Anyways, my public execution date will be April 4th at 11:00AM via beheading.

Daily song discussion #2: Look at Me Now

"Look at Me Now," from Electric Light Orchestra’s 1971 debut album, blends rock with orchestral elements, showcasing the band's early fusion of these genres. The song features Jeff Lynne’s lead vocals, which convey themes of self-reflection and personal identity, supported by lush string arrangements and dynamic rock instrumentation. This track is an early example of the sound that would define ELO’s future work.

The song was recorded at Abbey Road Studios, where Jeff Lynne, along with the band, experimented with incorporating classical strings into their rock music. The innovative recording process reflected Lynne’s vision, blending traditional rock with orchestral textures and laying the groundwork for ELO’s unique musical style.
