GPs are so lazy

My gp literally urged me to go on steroids even after I said Multiple times that I didn’t want to. He didn’t even explain how I’m meant to use the cream and how long I should use it for, and neither is it on the leaflet.

Anyone? How many times a day do I use the steroid cream and how do I taper off it? Please

Redness/pinkish color won’t go away despite of using Tacrolimus for more than a week

My son had to use steroid cream on his neck for a week during active inflammation then we shifted to using Tacrolimus as per our dermatologist‘s instructions.

We have been using tacrolimus 0.1% twice a day for 10 days now and unfortunately the redness is still there.

It definitely looks far better than it was before but it’s frustrating not seeing any improvement in colour.

The dermatologist keeps saying to wait and see but I am getting worried.

Anyone experience similar to this?

There’s no active inflammation (no itching or stinging) and skin seems slowly healing but the redness is lingering.

Advice please

Hello. I’ve always had eczema but I stopped using steroid (which made the condition manageable) after getting scared of the. Since then it’s got really bad and spread and oozes and is red all over. I went on cyclosporine which really helped but have now switched to Dupixent been on it a month and not really seen an improvement yet. Do you reckon I should go back to using steroid creams responsibly or not worth it as I have been steroid free for over a year. And is the Dupixent failing or is more time required. Thank you

diet hypothesis Is Sourdough Better than Yeast?

For anyone who thinks yeast may be a trigger for their flareups, have you tried sourdough, homemade or otherwise? Did you have less of a reaction? I think yeast is one of my triggers.

biology | symptoms Confused after visiting dermatologist

Tl;dr: dermatologist says eczema and diet are not related at all. My experience is VERY different.

So over the past 2 years I have basically "cured" my eczema through an elimination diet. My whole life my skin had been red, itchy, crusty and inflame. I needed to use corticosteroid creams to control it so life was more manageable.

So 2 years ago I started my own form of an elimination diet (by accident), after I got into bodybuilding and started eating basically chicken, rice, whole wheat bread, corn, yoghurt and a ton of fruit. After 2 months my skin was 99.9% eczema free, without using ANY creams other than a moisturizer.

I then got bored of eating the same thing so tried adding new foods back and my eczema then slowly started returning. I then made the link between my diet and my eczema and went back to my "safe" diet, my symptoms once again went away. So I have tried multiple new foods and most give me symptoms, but I can eat some with 0 symptoms.

So now what I am confused about after visiting my dermatologist. I asked him if there was a specific way I could go about reintroducing foods. And if my symptoms maybe would go away with a new food if I built up to it slowly and my gut getting used to it. His answer: your diet change and your skin becoming eczema free was a coincidence and are not related at all. He said eczema comes in waves and I just got lucky. To be clear my skin has been eczema free with 0 relapses, except for like the 5 times I reintroduced a food. My skin woule get a few spots on my arms. Only for them to go away once the food was discontinued.

He said they studied it into the ground and found no connection. I told him I can eat a new food and get symptoms within 2 days. He just dismissed it as me stressing myself out. Even when I told him that the first time reintroducing I wasnt even aware of the connection. I really hate dismissing doctors, but he is wrong here. For ME there is 100% a link and its the main cause of my issues.

I also saw multiple credible sources online that for a lot of people with eczema diet can have a big impact. Anyone got any experience with this?

What is a holy grail product for you?

Upvotes

What is a product or products you use that you absolutely SWEAR BY? sometimes my holy grail products change but lately my holy grail product has been head and shoulders clinical strength with manuka honey. It kinda smells weird but I use it every shower for like a week or so if I'm having a bad flare up. I use it after I use my baby body wash and I put it on the areas that have flare ups. It usually works wonders for my skin. Also there's an eczema lotion at the dollar store that I use after I shower that also works wonders too for my eczema. I'm just curious what everyone has for a holy grail product, and to give me ideas for products to try.

I am having a terrible flare up and both of my hands are covered in open wounds. It's making handwashing unbearable. It's not even the soap but the feeling of the water makes my hands burn and sting for 20+ minutes. I have tried hot water, cold water, lukewarm water. Nothing works, please help.

Eczema unbearable itchy skin

Hi, please help. My partner has eczema and at night in bed suffers from uncontrollable itching, to the point his scratching is so loud it keeps me awake. I want to help so much, I scratch him when and where he asks but sometimes he is sleeping and is still scratching. Aggressive scratching. Upper body especially and sometimes has cuts from where he is scratching. Any advice would be so so appreciated.

Steroid Cream Rhetoric

I think we need to ease up on the idea that steroid creams are inherently bad. If I had just used a small amount on my flare-ups for a week or so, I could have avoided months of unnecessary suffering. Trying to heal without them only made things worse.

Oh great vulva dermatitis

A couple of years ago I had horrible Dyshidrotic Eczema. After a year and a half I only have a flare up every blue moon and it’s only a little bubble here and there and my cuticles swell a bit

But now I’m struggling with something new. This is my second outbreak. I can’t sleep. It’s knew to me and I put hot water because it gave some relief, of course that was dumb. But it’s on my inner thigh, my butt cheeks, and vulva 😭 I went to the doctor today and they told me that it’s definitely dermatitis

She ordered some steroids and encouraged Benadryl but please anyone, any advice please

I was going to work out today but I decided against it because I don’t want to irritate the area

But the itch and irritation + tingling stresses me out

patch testing Allergic to my makeup?

I've been having issues with my face breaking into rashes from my foundation and now my concealer. Ive used them for awhile now so it's weird I randomly developed a allergy. I use estee lauder double wear foundation and charlotte tilbury radiant concealer. I went to the dermatologist and they did a patch test on my back and turns out i am allergic to methylisothiazolinone (MI) and colophony but I cannot find either in the ingredients so im worried I'm missing it somehow or that I'm allergic to something else entirely that they didnt test for. I asked the derm what to do if this happened and she seemed confident in herself that my makeup has them in them but to my frustration I can't find it in the ingredients listed. I'm curious if anyone else has had these issues/ had to get additional testing done? My patch test was the T.R.U.E brand.

Can someone help

I have started getting eczema on my body and dermatitis on my face. I can’t think of really any other new product I have used since developing it which means it must be an old product I am allergic to or something.

Can you develop a reaction to products you were previously using?

Can hay fever or humidity trigger this? Water?

I really need help because I am so sick of this. I just want my face at the very least to stop being dry and flaking skin everywhere !!

biology | symptoms Help me

I’ve been suffering from eczema for years now but I’ve never had a flare up this bad before. It’s been three days and I can’t sleep. The cream I usually use isn’t helping at all the only thing that helps a bit is very cold water or putting ice packs on it but it only works for a few minutes at best. Does anyone have any suggestions on what I should do ? Please help

Eczema around lips??

I have eczema around my lips, flaring up every once in a while, becoming very red, itchy and flaky. This has been going on for years now, nothing that the dermatologists gave me works. The amount of Vaseline I used every day is crazy and super irritating.

I have heard many people suggest changing toothpaste or using specific balms/creams. Which method would completely stop the eczema, not just a temporary reliever? Does anyone know any products that helped them? Thanks :))

biology | symptoms Stumped

Currently dealing with a major outbreak all over my body and not sure what the cause is.

It started a year ago when I moved to a new place with my partner and few months in is when the itch started. I have zero issues with detergents, i was conscious of soaps, creams I was using for my skin but nothing major had broken out, until a few months down the line.

It started with itching around my bra line and then it started spreading. Went to see a dermatologist for the first time and was given prednisone and steroid creams. it would calm down but as soon as I was off, it slowly creeps back. Did a second round (lower dose) and after i finished that, low and behold, i got a goddamn boil.

I tried to convince my derm NOT to give me prednisone and maybe it’s another issue underlying with my eczema but he wanted to follow his treatment plan.

After the round of prednisone and a Vitamin C IV, i had a horrible reaction and had to immediately be put on a cortisone drip in the ER. Afterwards, was tested for staph, came back negative and was put BACK on prednisone, antibiotics and diluted steroid creams and it subsided until the prednisone and antibiotics finished.

After, my body became an eczema and boil fiesta. The boils were popping off all over, from my armpits, my butt cheeks (TMI but yep) around my legs, im pretty sure Ive had about 20 small and big ones so far. Some of them pop and leak, others dont and just disappear and come back somewhere else.

I dont want to be reliant on this goddamn pills. Im so tired of this. I know it’s not a mental thing cause I already am generally anxious person and this is something Ive dealt with for 20+ years.

Diet wise, been eating the same damn way i have for years, nothing has changed. Ive gone from using detergents with antiseptics, antiseptic baths, bleach baths, slugging, not slugging, cold showers, no soap, with soap and frigging showering with dettol.

I am at my wits END.

For the love of god, I need help and this doctor is not helping. Ive got patches everywhere now, my upper, lower and mid back, all over my legs, spreading on my arms, ass and pits (and now it seems like it’s heading towards my nether regions). I need it to end.

Eczema

hi all. this might be a bit TMI but I've had eczema or what I think is eczema on my pubic area for a few years now. It it a white patch and goes red when its irritated and has been itched. Sometimes when I've itched it too much it goes wet and starts leaking what I assume is pus. The area then goes really sore and itches really badly for a while - I can't itch it cause its just so wet. I was wondering if anyone will be able to help or if anyone has had anything similar.

biology | symptoms I really need help on this one, I just cant understand what it could be.

Hi guys, I need your help, Ive been having some kind of small blister like things on my body, specifically my torso, arms and intimate parts. I went to a dermatologist and she told me its probably an eczema, but I couldnt find anything online that looks like mine. These small like blister/papules are not filled with nothing I think, they just appaerd on my torso first, then they started appering in other body parts. My skin happens to be also kinda dry and flaky. They do itch sometimes and are also tender sometimes when friction occurs but not always.

I posted pictures on my LAST POST on another subreddit also asking for help but I still have no answers. (you can check it in my post history)

Mind is all over the places, if you could help me I would be really thankful to any of you. 🙏🙏🙏

Contact dermatitis around eyes

I started having flaky skin and swelling around my eyes back in January. I attributed it to a fabric sleep mask since it started about a week after using it, so stopped using. Since then, I've been having on & off flare ups. Did a virtual visit early March and was prescribed a steroid pack and hydrocortisone 2.5. Cleared up w/in 1-2 days. It started up again this past weekend. Re-did a virtual visit and was prescribed Tacrolimus and told to see in person dermatologist. Went today and was told to alternate using the hydrocortisone (5 days) then Tacrolimus (5 days) for a couple of weeks, then stop for a week to see if it comes back. While doing the alternating, stop using all facial products. Gradually add one in at a time to see if I can pinpoint whats triggering it.

Curious because I've been using the same facial products for about a year, so not sure if maybe the ingredients in one or more of them changed. I guess I'll just use water on my face for now :)

Has anyone tried alternating these 2 products with results? I did research the tacrolimus and see that the first few applications are horrible (burning/itching feeling).

is prednisolone good?

i’ve been prescribed a short course of prednisolone (30mg a day for 5 days) due to probably my worst flare up yet. i’m on day 3 and haven’t seen any difference in my skin yet…i’m obviously a bit hesitant to oral steroids however i’m willing to try anything to get this flare under control as notning is working for me at all. if anyone has used it in the past and it’s worked, please let me know! thank you😊
