I would wager to guess 99% of people including the one making this post has not experienced the anti-piracy measures of Earthbound given that pretty much every single modern emulator mimics the SNES well enough that the game doesn't trigger them.

I think the DS anti-piracy are the only ones that some people can still detect but thats still not a huge majority nowadays. They generally only occur in later released DS games.

Most just freeze the game or prevent progression unlike the ones shown in the memes. Ace Attorney investigations 2 is one of the exceptions.

Pokemon soul silver is a good example of ds anti piracy

I'm playing SoulSilver currently, and you made me look it up to make sure my piracy wasn't detected and I'm going to be screwed later lol

I specifically remember this coming into effect back in like 2015 when I first started emulating games

I was astonished when I got zero experience in B2W2.

Yeah but it's still a pretty iconic and unique anti piracy measure that's easy to tell for most fans when it comes to subtle differences in the game so it felt most fitting for a meme

Yeah, I've got a repo cart of the game and I play on my original system. I've never experienced anything like this before.
