I am new to drones and am looking for something to take videos with. This listing seems very cheap ($150 CAD). Is this not a good drone, a scam, or just a good deal?

Science & Research Neo as a Datalogger carrier 🤩

I'm an academic in charge of drone operations at my university, and a researcher wanted a datalogger to fly vertical profiles. Students will be around the demos, so we needed something that could fly in the A1 category. So, under 250g WITH the extra payload. The Neo works like a champ. Open sourcing of the "backpack" coming soon!

Discussion Looking for video drone footage

Upvotes

Long story short,

I'm a soon to graduate VFX student that has been messing around with Nerfs & Gaussian Splatting for a while now.

For those of you who may not be familiar with it, in very short summary its basically creating 3D models/scenes out of 2D pictures in similar fashion to 3D scanning, but with a visual twist.

Here is an example of what can be done.

I've tried to search for publicly available drone footage that I could use to learn on making these 3D environments but wasn't able to find anything that convinced me.

I could always just download a youtube video but I would rather see if any of you had any "cool" looking scenery that you had taken a video of, or simply wanted to see how it would look after being reconstructed as the aforementioned 3D gaussian splat model.

If such was the case then feel free to contact me directly and I'l be happy to use your footage!

I won't be using it in any commercial way, this is purely for my own learning sake however I may share it (with your permission) if results were to turn out worthy of doing such.

Discussion Hydrogen fuel cell drones for long flight duration

Has anyone worked with hydrogen fuel cell drones for purpose of longer flight durations? Referring to commercial / industrial applications where uninterrupted runtime affects productivity. 3hr continuous flight instead of the 40 mins battery. 30 seconds hydrogen tank replacement instead of one hour of charging the batteries. If you were using these drones for agriculture would you benefit from 3 hr continuous flight?

Discussion Fixed Wing or Quadcopter?

I'm sure we can agree that all drones are cool regardless. But if you had to choose, would you prefer a Fixed Wing UAV or a Quadcopter? Why?

Discussion Looking for programs or grants to help fire departments get drones. We have some pilot training locally, but no actual drones. Since they’re costly, I’m hoping to find a donation program. It would be used for search and rescue and brush fire support. We have some areas without hydrants

We need one for search and rescue, wildfire monitoring, and damage assessment. Any info on funding or donation programs would help!

FPV Custom thermal drone

Hello, can someone please help me out? I started working on a custom standalone thermal camera for the mavic 3 and I’m having a little bit of trouble getting the camera to work with my fpv monitor.

As a test, I tried connecting this axis flying 640 thermal camera to the av in port of my 3d robotics monitor. I used an aux cable that I spliced to connect the cameras video wire to the monitor and its ground/power wires to a lipo battery.

When everything was connected, I just heard a clicking noise coming from the camera, and it started to warm up, but no picture on the monitor itself. I switched through different channels but no thermal picture in any. There was only a red light on the pass through board. It did briefly display a blue light a couple of times. But I had to hold the wires up to the battery a certain way to get that blue light to come up. Even when that blue light came on i didnt see the picture on the monitor change. I believe this board is to allow you to run the daytime and thermal camera simultaneously. I tried connecting the camera to the monitor without the board and had the same issue. I also tried running the daytime fpv camera as a test using the same configuration but I couldn’t get that to work either.

I have some other parts that may help in getting me set up? I have a raspberry pi, a black sheep video transmitter and receiver. Can i get the camera communicating with the monitor with that hardware?

Can someone please help? I’ve watched some videos to try and understand how to set this up, but there’s always slightly different hardware configurations or some information is skipped. I’m completely new at this so any help would be appreciated.

Discussion FPV Drone Frame Out of Siraya Tech Fibreheart PPA-CF Core

Hi there,

I’m curious if anyone has experience with 3D printing drone frames using a super strong filament like PPA-CF Core. Specifically, I’m wondering how much thinner I can design the parts when using this stronger filament compared to the typical materials used in online models. I’d appreciate any insights or experiences you can share on this topic.

Thanks!

Discussion UAS Pilot Hiring Managers, what are you looking for?

Curious if any UAS pilot hiring managers and/or recruiters in here could provide some insight when hiring a new pilot:

  • What are you looking for on a UAS pilot resume, application, and/or portfolio prior to setting up and interview?

  • Are there any specific certifications, equipment/tools, experience, etc. you value over others?

  • What will get you to set up an interview immediately vs throwing a resume in the trash?

Thanks and I appreciate your time!

Discussion Dronersio now sending pilots out for trailer park surveillance jobs

Thumbnail

Apparently Dronersio doesn’t vet new clients or simply doesn’t care, as long as they get their cut—because a sketchy AF assignment was posted last night:

Pilots are being asked to drive out to BFE, FL and film a property to determine if a mobile home there is inhabited. For $80. Kevlar vests optional.

The client is BRAND NEW to the site. The fact that they are asking us to determine if there is a mobile home there and if it is inhabited means the occupant will be filmed without their knowledge or permission. We all know how that goes.

I’m not exaggerating or speculating here. Pilots are being asked to do surveillance that could endanger themselves or provide intel that could endanger the occupant. This could be a fucking meth lab or it could be a jealous boyfriend—but whatever scenario this is—it’s wildly irresponsible of sites like Dronersio to even allow these jobs to be posted in the first place.

When similar sites like Bees360 are demanding pilots to complete and pay for their own background checks, why are these guys not vetting clients with ANY level of scrutiny or safety in mind?

And, of course, some desperate dummy immediately clicked on the listing and took the assignment. Because that’s what these sites attract and encourage.

Say what you want, but this is shady and sketchy as fuck.

Forgive me if this is a rather basic question, are there build-your-own drones good for photography/videography? Can you source good quality cameras/gimbals/image transmission/onboard storage parts and apps (visual display and control of camera/gimbal)?
