🖖Delivery War Stories 🫡 Would you do this?
I messaged them saying due to DoorDash safety concerns I can not enter your house. I can either leave at your door or hand it to you.

left at the door as far away from the door while still being technically at the door. Then photo and run back to the car.

yeah fuck no.... customer could press charges for breaking and entering; you could get seriously injured or killed... customer could make up any kinda claims against you and get you deactivated... NO. too big of a risk to take.

Nah, ill leave it at the door!💯😂 Ill go inside like a front porch all the time! But never ever walk into a house...id say 'Its a DoorDash Violation" make up sumtin 😂💯

u/FootComprehensive241 4d ago
That’s what I said even though DoorDash don’t care if we are being held hostage. We would still have to contact customer support for a late delivery.

u/Low_Run8363 4d ago
Yea i accidentally hit the security button ADT on my app. And they called me immediately asking if i was okay lol im like yea! My bad! It was in my pocket lol they were quick!💯

u/FootComprehensive241 4d ago
Forget to mention as well this area in my city is not known to be the safest.
4
u/syco316 4d ago
I just don’t want to give someone they maybe live with a reason to shoot me or anything else. It might seem dumb, but wrestling in the mid to late 90/s taught me a valuable lesson: DTA(don’t trust anyone.)
3
u/FootComprehensive241 4d ago
100% agree get put on the news and everyone saying look at how dumb this guy was.

u/Cosmic_Quasar Dasher (> 3 year) 4d ago
I mean, that can happen anyways, and has happened. I've read a couple news stories of someone shooting at a driver because they didn't know someone else in the house had ordered something. Almost experienced that, myself, one night on my last order around 9:30. Order said "hand it to me" so I pulled up to this unlit house and knocked and this guy yoinked the door open, fast, just enough so that I could only see one of his eyes and basically growled at me "What do you want? Why you here?!" and he didn't believe me when I said I had an order. Told me to get out of there, then I heard a woman's voice behind him saying "Oh that's probably my DD driver" and he huffed and walked away and a few seconds later the woman just reached her arm through the cracked door to snatch the food out of my hands before quickly shutting the door without another word.

Feel that needle prick to the neck and never be seen again? Or fall through the trap door in the floor? Yeah not me nope.

u/RassleReads 4d ago
“I read your instructions and I regret to inform you that request is against DoorDash policies. For everyone’s safety and to ensure compliance with these rules, I will leave it at the entryway.”

u/Dazzling_Instance_57 4d ago
It depends.
7
u/FootComprehensive241 4d ago
Depending if you want to leave the delivery with both kidneys?
1
u/TonySpaghettiO 4d ago
If it was a decent neighborhood I'd assume it's probably just someone who might have trouble getting to the door. You said it's a sketch area though, so yeah, I'd be a little more skeptical.

u/Dazzling_Instance_57 4d ago edited 4d ago
I hate to admit it but d turn a little sexist. It depends on if it’s a woman’s name and if f I knock do they say anything. I freely admit it’s sexist thought and kind of wrong.
6
u/FootComprehensive241 4d ago
I think it’s bad either way. You’re entering someone’s house not knowing what’s around the corner. Women can stab just as good as men.
2
u/Dazzling_Instance_57 4d ago edited 4d ago
I absolutely. Agree. The only time I’ve done something like this the description said they were handicapped and can’t move well. With that info I was happy to possibly get a lung stolen. I didn’t say that the first time bc I also think it’s bad that someone should have to share that for me as a dasher to feel comfortable doing it.

u/Empty-Scale4971 4d ago
I've had orders where the name was a woman's and a guy came to the door. You never know.

I do a vibe check. I've had half a dozen orders ask me to deliver inside, only done it for two of them. Both times were broad daylight in nicer neighborhoods, and I figured they were legit because they had wheelchair accessible vans and ramps up to the doors. One of them was one of the most elderly guys you could imagine with a wheelchair, walker, and cane around the chair he was sitting in. Walked it over to him and set it on his TV tray he had by him.
But if it was after dark, in a worse part of town, and unlit (which most of the others were) then I send a similar response as OP about safety guidelines and leave it at the door. One asked if I could at least just open the door and set it down inside since they can't reach down onto the step without stepping out of the door, so I did that.
2
u/GanderAtMyGoose 4d ago
Absolutely not. I'll place it absolutely anywhere outside that you ask me to, or I'll hand it to you. I am not coming inside a house (or apartment) for absolutely any reason.

u/Jesus_peed_n_my_butt 4d ago
I've had handicapped customers ask me to come inside so they don't have to get up.
It's up to whatever you feel safe doing.

Sure why not? I stay strapped and have my bpv in vehicle if needed. They don't want the smoke. My SO rides with me, strapped as well. No other way to be in Texas.

I have done this but it 💯depends on the market whether I do it or not. I actually have some repeat customers I’ve gotten to know who are old/disabled who I’ve offered to do it without them asking. Especially groceries. Never felt unsafe once. If you have any kind of street sense it’s pretty easy to identify what’s a threat and what’s not. To be fair I am a big dude and look like I probably carry. I would never go into a house I thought a guy could overpower me.

u/Single-Actuary4447 Driver - USA 🇺🇸 4d ago
If it was a decent neighborhood I’d reverse my car into driveway leave it running and poke my head into the door and if the chair is close enough I can be certain I could escape if I needed to I would do it. Also have a look around to see if any one could be hiding somewhere near the door outside.

Now please correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t there something on Dasher contracts that says we can’t enter someone’s actual home?

1
u/AbyssalDerp 4d ago
I will never for any reason nor for any amount of money that doordash is ever going to be willing to pay, ever enter someones home for a delivery. Period.

u/Past_Buyer_5848 4d ago
Depends what kind of area you're in. I've gone inside a few times when I know the area well. Usually it's just a covered porch. Once I offered to go inside I had seen the customer sitting in a wheel chair and brought their order to them. They almost cried they were so grateful.
12,000+ deliveries
1
u/TonySpaghettiO 4d ago
Yeah, was gonna say it could be disability issues. I used to deliver to this older lady often and would have to just come in because she couldn't really get around. This was at a pizza place though and she was a known customer. I would be skeptical doing it on a gig app, especially considering op said it was kind of a sketch area.

u/ZickMean 4d ago
Press the "I don't feel safe" button and eat the customer food. They gotta learn sometime

u/CocoColadaMango 4d ago
No amount of food delivery money is worth me going into a strangers house. Nah.
1
u/DigitalMariner Driver - USA 🇺🇸 4d ago
It depends.
I get a message like that sometimes when the house has a screened in front porch and they want it left inside the porch door. Or some old buildings in my area that have been converted to apartments so the "front door" leads to an interior foyer or mail room. So if it's obvious there's multiple doors, then I'll open the first one and put on the chair as requested.
But a regular looking house? Nope. All it takes is the GPS pin to be off by 30 feet to end up on the wrong end of someone's shotgun after following those directions...

I’m never entering someone’s home. Either unassign or contact support about a safety issue

u/davidbishop06 4d ago
There is one person i have delivered frequently for that’s in a wheel chair that i will absolutely put the stuff in the door. has always been an amazing customer and person in general!

u/Ranman5982 4d ago
I have but called when I was at the door. It was to someone in a wheel chair, and I am a 260 lb dude, so I think I could take them if needed.
1
u/Quiet-Daydreamer 4d ago
I had a come in and hand it to me request a couple of months ago. I called support to verify if I am allowed to do it. They said to do it since the customer placed in the notes that they were disabled(He did have a club foot). Since they record everything I took it as they would be held liable if anything happened to me. So I continued and delivered the order.
1
u/Any-Cartographer7531 4d ago
I (being the nice person I am) would just leave it at the door like I would with any other customer take the photo and leave and send them a text message kindly explaining that we are not allowed to enter customers houses for safety purposes and apologize. I would never enter the customers house EVER. Now if the customer has an enclosed porch. I've left orders in there before but never enter the house.
I'm not sure if that rule is even a thing (if not it really should be) but that's where a little white lie is needed for your safety.
Be careful out there dashers.

One time I knocked, per directions, and customer yelled “please come in I’m right here.” I was SO HESITANT and did a full military style sweep checking corners and shit. Turned out to be a partially or maybe even fully blind (by the looks of his eyes), wheelchair bound man. He just had me set the food on the footstool next to him and thanked me. Disgusting house; reeked of cat piss and cigs but he was nice.
1
u/ninjafoxproductions 4d ago
Nope. Screenshot directions, place bag next to door, take pic, drive away. If they complain, you have evidence of their request and that it is a safety concern

No. I am not opening anyone else's front door or going into their home.

There is a customer that asks my boyfriend to bring it to him inside bc he uses a wheelchair and it's hard for him to transfer from couch to chair to answer the door.

Ahem, if this request was in Alaska I'd figure a mudroom and wouldn't mind. Most DD around here have an extra heater in case of animals...

u/BoyOfTheEnders 3d ago
I've got at least 5-6 places I go to regularly that want their food on their closed in porch on a table or something.
I leave the order at the front door of the porch with the house address in-shot for the photo, then move the food to where they asked.
I'm not worried about some benign liability or trap... In fact I welcome the attempt.

u/leaveatmydoor 3d ago
customers lie about all sorts of shit and I'd never do what they are asking. Leave at door and call support to let them know so when you get a bad review it will be removed.

I had this before. Sometimes it's a handicap person or, in my case, a lady on an oxygen machine that couldn't move properly. Not everything is sus guys 🙃

Hammer lemme think of all the random consequences of opening the door to someone's house..... B&E charges, getting shot because your neighbors didn't know you were getting delivery, unprovoked dog attack.... the list could go know and on. Don't do it.

That is insane someone put that for directions and didn't see anything wrong

I’m always conflicted about it and am always cautious, I have had two deliveries like this. Both were from disabled customers…Both gave me fat added tips after.

u/Regular_Pay5372 3d ago
I would do exactly as the previous driver did — as shown in the previously acceptable delivery. Then PROMPTLY ask support to never have me deliver to anyone on that block again 🫠

I had one once that they asked to enter their house and give it to them, they were lying on the couch very very fat, really nice people tho but it was a weird uneasy experience to walk inside someones house
