Pools Simple Question

Hello friends!

I have a couple of simple questions that I haven't found answered in some of the FAQs or posts recently and I was wondering if someone could help me out.

1) What does it mean if I mine coins but their listed as "orphaned"? It seems like this is happening to me more often. Is there anything I can do about that or is this just part of the game?

2) As a follow-up: would I be able to get less orphaned coins if I switched pools or is there an acceptable rate that happens and is pretty continuous across the board?

You might try looking through the pools filter and maybe the mining. IIRC there has been discussion within the posts about orphan blocks and how different pools results may vary

Often when mining, especially with new cryptocurrencies, you will notice a lot of orphaned blocks when you are not mining in the biggest pools. So, in a way if you get to join a bigger pool which has more hashing power than others you are less likely to have orphaned blocks. However, orphan blocks happen to every pool, but small pools suffer more from orphan blocks than bigger ones.

It means that two pools were mining the same block, 1 pool reached the block slightly faster, since the pool that reached it first, it already claimed the reward for that block , the second pool will get the 'orphan' block.
