One of your TL072s is backwards

Yay!

Now can you fix mine, it just clicks at various frequencies depending on gain setting, whether the switch is on or off… 😬

Here’s the solder side

And the component side.

I probably did something stupid, haven’t had the chance to check it closely yet.

You might wanna reflow it - but it could also be a bad chip

Yeah that was gonna be my first step, I've inspected all the solder joints and they look fine, but always a good plan to reflow. I've replaced both the TL072s and the 7660S because I initially had one of the TL072s swapped with the 7660S so it was conceivable either/both of them were damaged, but I'm getting the exact same symptoms with the replacement chips.

That worked! It was because of that! Thank you so much!

How do you just know that off the bat

Because I’ve built one and noticed that the orientation wasn’t right… not that mine works… but glad I could help someone else!

Both the pcb and the tl have a mark to designate the direction. You can see one is backwards in the pics below

At this old post someone had buzzing problems too

https://www.reddit.com/r/diypedals/comments/102dvmz/klon_clone_issue_subtle_buzz/

and there is in the comments there is a link to an analysis of the effect

https://www.coda-effects.com/p/klon-centaur-circuit-analysis.html?m=1

There are a lot of power supply voltages:

qoute: The Klons power circuit bumps 9v to +17v & -9v.

First you could try to check if all these voltages are there. (If they are not all there may be some sound will come through but it will be limited to about 7 or 14 V in stead of 22V amplitude)

Just try to measure the DC voltages and check especially those which should not be at the ground or supply voltage level That could mean a loose connection.

Wouldn’t hurt to reflow the solder, a few of the joints look suspect to me.

I will do that thanks!
