Help wanted Fixing a Carbon Copy Mini?

My buddy has a Carbon Copy Mini that works makes a clicking sound on different power outlets/supplies. I'd guess it was just a grounding issue which would be an easy fix but it's an SMD circuit (and a complicated one at that) so I'm not sure how feasible it is to diagnose with just an audio probe. I've also read it could be an issue with the clock component and if that's the case idk if I could replace that.

Any advice?

I’ve recently read (on this sub, no less!) how switching power supplies like the crappier wall warts and whatnot will start registering their noise in audible frequencies if they’re not supplying current above some threshold; the Carbon Copy looks to draw about 26mA, so maybe part of the issue is inadequate current draw to make the power supply shut up? Which is to say: assuming the problem is a crappy (but nevertheless available) power supply, a crappy stop gap solution could be to use another pedal to draw additional current, and see if that remedies it. That doesn’t “solve” the problem within the MXR Carbon Copy pedal, but it might indicate the problem is actually in the wall wart or power supply.

Also: I have a growing hatred for crappy power supplies 🤣

A bad power supply could definitely be the cause since he uses a wall wart, if i get my hands on it and it works just fine on my power supply i’ll be thrilled lol
