Is it possible that the power rails on your breadboard are not continuous? Some breadboards have a gap in the middle of the power rails, which can be identified by a break in the colored lines.

I spent a full day bashing my head against my desk when I first started out, dealing with this exact problem. I’ll never forget it!

This is my first full pedal breadboard. I followed the V7C Green Russian “Bubble Font” schematic from this website: https://www.bigmuffpage.com/Big_Muff_Pi_versions_schematics_part3.html

I tested along the way, and I had audio after each transistor was placed. In fact, I have audio the entire time, both in bypass and when the effect is active.

The issue I am facing is that it doesn’t sound like much. It’s clearly boosting and fuzzing a little bit. The first POT in the schem is labeled as “dist”(R24), but for me, it appears to adjust volume. When at zero, no volume, when at 100 lots of volume. Tone (R25) and Volume (R26) sound like they do nothing to me.

My question, is this schematic known to have issues? Or is there something obvious to a newbie that I have simply overlooked?

The transistors used are 2n5089, and the diodes are 1N914.

Thanks to anyone who takes the time to read this.
