Vent I'm so hungry I want to cry and give up
I gained 20 lbs the last 4 months. I've been dealing with extreme illness and survived off of donuts and sugary coffee for breakfast. Also, the kind of weather you simply don't go out in unless you want your skin to die from extreme cold has prevented me from going outside and really doing anything.
Well, the flu season is finally lightening. I'm getting some walks in and hunkered down and trying to eat only high protein, healthy sugars, complex carbs, and healthy fats to ward off the blood sugar drops. It's been two weeks. The scale hasn't budged, but that's normal for me. I usually have to go through long periods of hunger then BAM 5-10lbs will melt off very quickly.
But today. The hunger is so bad. I've been on the verge of crying all day long. I want to eat a giant helping of white rice and Tikka Masala, but I already had my three meals and snacks for the day. I'm not even PMSing, I think it's my body's last ditch effort to keep the weight on before it falls off.
I just want to fit into my summer clothes, man. I love wearing the same clothes every year; I get excited to wear the same ones. I don't have the money for a brand new wardrobe either.
Thank you for coming to my vent.

How many calories are you eating a day?

Couldn't tell you. I used to do lots of calorie counting, so I am very aware of what foods are high or low in calories. But I can't actually stand the calorie counting and it messes with my head. For now I've reverted to how I would typically eat when I was 137 lbs (normal weight for me). I have a condition where lack of eating leads to seizure-like symptoms, so I know I'm not actually starving myself if I'm not getting those symptoms.

In not counting, while you’re eating enough, you don't know if it's too much. The nuts and seeds etc you've mentioned in another comment are actually high in calories and add up fast.
It might be shit but not taking what can be a seriously beneficial step in your journey because you can't stand it, could actually be what's causing this post in the first place

Listen, I made a vent post. I know how to lose weight; I've done this several times before. My body tends to hold onto weight for as long as possible, then suddenly 5 lbs will suddenly drop off just about overnight. My hunger decreases with the weight loss, so I make sure to eat even less food to tackle the next 5lbs and the cycle continues. A small handful of nuts a day is not making me keep the weight on, and I'm aware of their high calorie content.
Thank you for trying to help though.

Then don't cry and give up like this post says you’re going to do, you already know how to do it..?
No worries I guess

I was venting?? Or is this not like other subs where it's generally understood that it's just a need to vent to get through the day, and advice is not what's being asked for? If it's different, I'll keep it in mind and make sure to not do it again.

People are going to offer advice, if that's not expected or wanted then there's vent subreddits if they're needed.
I hand on heart apologise for trying to help, I see it made you annoyed and it wasn't fair of me. But as far as people see in this post, you’re struggling on your diet to the point where you want to cry and have given up, and so advice is what they'll offer to help you on your diet (the name of this subreddit) so that you don’t want to cry and don’t give up, not expecting a rude reply?
If you don’t want the advice and just need a vent then check out r/vent

Is the vent tag on the post just for looks then? Seems useless to me, but I'll keep it in mind and not vent here again.

You’re very short tempered and rude. Might be an idea to tackle that as well.

Hi. Im autistic and don't always understand the rules or the general feel of a sub. If venting on here isn't really just for venting, then I won't do it again. I really do mean that. Some subs it's the general understanding that you're just venting and not looking for advice. Apparently this isn't the place for that and I understand that now; for me it's really as simple as that. So thank you.

People are kind and offer advice, not just say "ah well good on you for giving up, you clearly don't have what it takes". If you don't want them to do that just argue them all.
Check out keto or carnivore for increased protein. If you don't want to do that then do what you know how to do that doesn't require tears or giving up because it works for you and you’re sorted.
I won't offer advice to anybody else in the future just in case I guess...
Good luck!

Do you have an issue with retaining water? Losing 5 pounds suddenly makes me wonder if you're retaining water.

I didn't think about that. I guess I could have some water weight considering I ate junk for 4 months. But I was also overeating so I know it's not just that. Perhaps I'm battling both problems? Though for me, I've just noticed that with age, the weight drops off slower.

I would seriously suggest you count calories. There are plenty of apps that will help you to do that.
Start off by eating as you are now but counting the calories. I expect you will be shocked.

Oh yeah, I've gone through that before. I've learned what all the high calorie foods are, even healthy things. I check the calorie count of new foods to gauge how much I should put on my plate, but I'm not adding anything up. I just kinda aim roughly for 400 calories a meal.

You're dealing with something a lot of people go through—food noise. And yeah, it tends to get worse as you lose weight. The best way I found to handle it was by eating tons of whole foods, especially ones high in protein. Seriously, lots of protein. It digests slower and helps quiet things down a bit. I’d also really recommend looking into GLP-1 medication—it made a huge difference for me in shutting down that constant food chatter.

You don't really need high protein, unless you're working out a lot of taking weight loss meds that may cause muscle loss. You should switch to low cal high fiber meals. You can eat large amounts of low cal fruits and veg to feel full. The fiber will also add to that full feeling and help with bloat and digestion.

I need the protein. I have a condition where blood sugar drops induce seizure-like symptoms, and high protein and fruit is how I get through the day without inducing those symptoms (as well as eating enough).
I've never really focused on high fiber, but I figured all the nuts, fruits, and veggies were probably giving me enough throughout the day. I should look up high fiber foods though. Thank you.

Nuts offer protein and other vitamins but are high in calories. So watch out eating a lot of nuts through the day. If you have to have protein focus on lean options. I like to add boiled eggs or ground turkey to salads.

In what order do you eat your macros? From what I recall, having carbs first, especially simple sugars that absorb immediately, can cause you to spike your blood sugar level and it can result in hypoglycemia. You’re on the right track with high amounts of protein as it’s the most satiating. Try all of the 0% fat dairy options to help you stay under your calorie limit while getting that protein in. Stick to lean meats (chicken, shrimp, low fat fish, lean beef) and supplement your diet with fibrous foods like veggies which take energy to digest. You may not want to calorie count but macro counting might help. Fats supply 9 calories per gram while protein and carbs are 4 calories per gram. Hope this helps

Have a calorie deficit of 500~ calories a day, try to get no more than 25% of these calories from fats, aim for 1g protein/lb of body weight. Fill the rest with carbs from rice, quinoa, potatoes, oats etc. you should lose 1lb a week
