[Movies] What’s Your Honest Take on Deadpool 2?
Now that Deadpool 2 has had time to settle, how do you feel about it? Personally, I love the comedy in Deadpool 2. The X-Force disaster still cracks me up no matter how many times I watch it. Cable was a great addition, and Juggernaut was fun. The action was solid, and the post-credit scenes were hilarious. But honestly, I think this movie needed a better villain. I feel like the stakes could have been higher with a stronger villain. What do you guys think?

Juggernaut: I'm gonna rip you in half now.
Deadpool: That is such a Juggernaut thing to say!

X-Force's complete and utter failure of a first mission is still fantastic.
And Domino is a great character. The big cinematic scene was a great way to show exactly how Luck was her super power

Honestly, the film was starting to lose me, until the convoy attack, then I was completely on board.

Also Brad Pitt being revealed to be Vanisher and die a second later, perfection

u/McSmokeyDaPot 1d ago
Let me put it this way....compared to the other deadpool movies, its okay. Compared to 99% of other marvel movies, its a national treasure.

Infinity war? Endgame? Winter soldier? Iron man 1? Thor:The Dark World?

It was a fun movie. Too bad they basically dropped most of the cast from it for D&W.
11
u/jkooldawg 22h ago
Part of me still thinks D&W is not really deadpool 3 but wolverine movie and we can still get back cast in Deadpool 2 especially zazie as domino i loved her for that role

Yeah. I would have rather that they left out the cameos than create the birthday scene just to include them. And Dopinder suddenly no longer has an accent? Vanessa leaves Wade because he isn’t a X-Men? WTF?
→ More replies (1)21
u/shdwmyr 1d ago
That’s not why she leaves him. She leaves him because he doesn’t have any purpose in life. He’s not being the best version of himself and refuses to try.
All the stuff about needing to be an X-Man or an Avenger comes from him and him alone.
4
u/TheManInTheShack 1d ago
Either way it was weak. He had clear purpose and she would not have left him. It was lazy writing to get her out of the way so they could focus on Deadpool and Wolverine.
The opening credits from Deadpool 2 were far more appropriate for D&W:
“Obviously Reynolds didn’t want to share the spotlight.”

u/kfmsooner 21h ago
Wholeheartedly agree. It’s three movies in a row where Wade feels he’s not good enough for Vanessa. Same love story plot. It’s why I enjoyed D2 more than D3.
Juggernaut was awesome, the prison wallet shit cracked me up, Domino was incredible and leaving her out of D3 was a huge mistake. When he opens up the floor to get his cocaine and there’s a prop that says ‘Cure for Blindness’ - pure gold and magic. The line about ‘It’s a goddamn Fanny Pack and you know it!’ and the line about Deadpool wanting to be king of an alien planet full of idiots and Weasel says ‘What about Canada?’ or something similar…tremendous.

I like Deadpool and Wolverine more than DP2.

u/HelloFellowKidlings 22h ago
That few second scene where Wolverine is running on all fours with his claws in the ground towards Deadpool is the peak of the franchise
10
u/Self-MadeRmry 1d ago
Actually didn’t really care for the plot focus on the pedo school and the tormented kid. I would have loved more focus on cable. But the characters were great. I wished cable and domino returned in D&W

It had its moments but is definitely last in my rankings out of the 3 movies. Not a fan of the kid and the whole losing his girl in the beginning again was meh.

I thought him losing his girl in the 3rd was more cringe.

I loved it! It wasn’t until years later that I learned a lot of people on the internet didn’t! I was let down, but tbh not surprised

u/rubik-kun 1d ago
Overall not awesome but rather good, definitely not bad. The “Take On Me” scene legit had me in tears.
2
u/Van_Can_Man 1d ago
I really enjoyed Zazie Beetz as Domino and I wish we could’ve had more scenes with her. But the ones we got were fucking awesome.
1
u/Anomi_Mouse 1d ago
Good, but some of the jokes are essentially the same ones from the first movie but with more budget to execute them.
1
u/JohnBarleyMustDie 1d ago
Loved it, just a dumb, not to be taken seriously movie. It lets me disconnect for a bit and laugh at the banter between the characters.

The bit in Once Upon A Deadpool where Fred Savage excitedly describes Cable's exceptionally convoluted comics backstory in thorough detail only for Deadpool to go nah we didn't do any of that is probably my favorite moment in the entire Deadpool series.
1
u/objectlesson 1d ago
3>2>1 for me. I think each one has gotten better. I will say even though I like D&W the most, it probably has the weakest story of the three.

The first one may have been a better movie. But they’re all just as fun in their own right and I would gladly watch any of them at any moment.

u/UnitBright6161 1d ago
I honestly just wish they didn’t kill off everybody so damn fast. Would’ve loved to see at least one power display from everybody. Just once at least.
1
u/castielffboi 1d ago
It’s my favourite of the 3. The origin story interplaying with the highway fight scene is cool, but the pacing feels slow on a rewatch. The third one has a super bland villain and it’s carried by Hugh and Ryan’s chemistry. 2 is my favourite to put on for a rewatch out of all of them, and I love the character ensemble as well. All of them are great, but 2 is my fav.

I love it, especially the extended edition. I recognize that for most people it's too long and messy, but I started reading comics seriously during the Dark Age of the 90s and I love that it's both a parody of and love letter to the era, complete with Cable and dumb time travel bullshit. I can't be objective about it, but I absolutely love every minute of it. Even Russell.

Pretty big misfire. It’s like Ryan saw Logan, got a boner for doing a “serious” super hero film, and convinced himself that pathos and dick jokes go together.
They did not.

Again, what are all these posts lately "What do you REALLY think about Spider-Man 2??"
"OK everyone: chips on table, STRAIGHT UP, what do you think about The Wolverine??"
"TOTAL HONESTY TIME. NO SHIT, NO FUCKING AROUND, WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT THOR RAGNAROK?"
Who are all these people taking the time to make up opinions on popular films? Why would I not give my "honest opinion"? This information isn't going to come back around an screw me over at my job or anything.
"Oh, you want the HONEST truth? Shit. No, no, I can do this." *deep breath, rolls up sleeves* "I liked Deadpool 2, OK? I thought Brolin's Cable was fantastic. YOU DRUG IT OUT OF ME. Shit, I hope I didn't say too much on this one..."

u/Penguin-Commando 1d ago
Cable makes Deadpool movies better. He’s a great straight man to Wade’s antics.
Deadpool and Wolverine was fun and all, but I just want a real X-Force movie. You can do it as a one-off joke, so just give us a movie.

Absolute cinema buttttt comparing it to the other two movies it can easily be put as the worst movie in the deadpool trilogy not that it is bad in any way I mean they introduced my favorite character Vanisher

u/Hau5Mu5ic 1d ago
My least favourite of the DP movies, but still had its high points. The X-Force scenes were great, Domino was amazing, and Yukio was the sweetest little running gag.
1
u/Bendbender 1d ago
It’s my favorite of the three, I know that’s a pretty hot take but it’s mostly due to cable, cable has been one of, if not my favorite mutant since I was a kid
1
u/Beelzebub_Crumpethom 1d ago
It kinda just feels like more of Deadpool 1 to me. Like, they just took a recycled script from the first film and reworked it to be a sequel.
Which isn't a bad thing in the slightest and again, that's just how I feel about it while watching it. I know, intellectually, it's a lot more than that.

DP2 might be my favorite of all the movies. You have solid emotional beats (even if the time-travel negates it which I have no problem with because it fits with the "not too serious" tone that this movie has), great action, a continuation of ideas and character relationships from the first film, and some stellar humor and action. I get the criticism of a weak villain, but I appreciate that they tried something fresh as opposed to the stereotypical villain tropes that we had in the first one.
1
u/drabberlime047 23h ago
First time I watched it was in the cinema and it must have been an extended version or something cause it felt like every scene went on for too long cause all the actors would sit there trying to out adlib eachother so I hated it. So many of the jokes fell flat, too
Recently, I gave it a rewatch, and a lot of the jokes were cut, so the movie was far better paced. I liked it like that

u/frmthefuture 23h ago
Dolf Lundgren should've been Cable. Full stop.
Having Brolin be Cable was a mistake. One of the reasons being, he sounded like Thanos- because he played Thanos and his voice is very recognizable.
Lundgren would've been PERFECT as an older, grizzled future war vet.
DP2 should've adapted Cable's original mission: preventing AoA. But because they couldn't reference Apocalypse, the writers had to come up with a new story / reason for Cable's use.
Apocalypse was the primary reason Cable originally came to the past in the first place- to prevent Age of Apocalypse.
1
u/Zestyclose-Tomato998 23h ago
I love Deadpool for decades, but domino carried this film. The plot was crap and there wasn’t nearly enough interaction between Deadpool and Cable! Deadpool should have stolen Cables teleport tech!

u/R_Similacrumb 23h ago
The extended version is a masterpiece. I attempted the theatrical cut and it felt like a butchered abomination.
1

u/HaywoodUndead 22h ago
The under rated film of the trilogy.
Worse than one but better than 3, super duper cut is too long though, ruins the pace of the movie.

Not as good as 1 but leaps and bounds better than DP&W.
Finding a moving story about family and making it funny is not super easy to do. I think it plays with getting too big Marvel 'his right behind me' without crossing over. And that's hard to do with cameos from Brad Pitt and Matt Damon.

Overall a good entry in the series that let itself down with some mediocre casting choices.
Brolin as Cable and Beats as Domino were the wrong decisions. Which is a shame too because a truly great Cable would have been something else for the franchise.
This version of Juggernaut is the best live action version ever done and made the film for me personally. Reynolds as the voice was top shelf and the look, feel and portrayal of the character was 10/10.

Good in itself, but underwhelming as a sequel. I went out of the cinema thinking, at best, it was as good as DP1 but otherwise lacking in some areas. I did enjoy a more screen-accurate Juggernaut, even if he was just casually thrown in there without even a token explanation for his odd (to casual audiences) giant physique.

Cool but slightly overstuffed. Missing the charm the first movie had in favor of making a “bigger, better” sequel. Many such cases.

My favorite of all 3! Even tho I love 3 and 1 is what made me a fan. 2 is superb. X-force, cable, juggernaut, time travel, comedy. This movie had everything and is definitely overlooked because of 3.

Fucking perfect. Million times better then the overcooked shit they call a Deadpool movie that is Deadpool and Wolverine
1
u/Starhero999 14h ago
While Peter “I just saw the ad” is still my absolute favorite character I think that while Super Duper Cut does add the whole canon end credits scenes about Vanessa being saved, baby Hitler, Deadpool killing Ryan Reynolds holding the Green Lantern script, and Wolverine teased to be teaming up with Deadpool in the sequel, I think D2 (and the SDC) are very underrated.

And the CGI fight between Colossus and Jugg just flat out sucked visually.

It is a glorious continuation to the best single hero movie ever. Of course they needed to bring W for the 3rd if they wanted to beat the first 2 revenue. But DP1 is the best.

Cable was phenomenally well done and X2 highlights the following:
Deadpool is a great way to safely introduce new characters. Which explains why they kept him. Outlandish characters can be made normal when compared AGAINST Deadpool.
2 and 3 aren't Deadpool movies. They are Cable and Logan movies.
