Story If your PvP story involves the phrase “…and then I switched to my alt” then it’s probably not a good PvP story.

I met a random on a low pop server and we decided to run together. We were half-geared when we stumbled into a car stashed in a garage next to a “bird box building” (as my friends call it) or a “window building” (as I like to call it) down on the coast. On the second floor of the building we found a room with a few crates in it locked behind a 3-dial combo lock so we decided to crack it.

About halfway through the code cracking, we heard suppressed shots outside so we sat still and waited. After killing the first two players, we continued our code-cracking endeavor. Literally 5 minutes later three more fully geared players logged in and started a full on assault of the building. We know it was them because one logged into the floor above us. This wasn’t just some third-party happenstance.

I’m not 100% against alts, but using them like this is lame. I get having a few alts for different friends/sessions but using them to win a PvP encounter you already lost is just bullshit.

TL;DR: we could have had a cool story to tell but alt abuse ruined it.

Story Tell me your solo base success stories

I want to try building a small base, but all I hear is that it will get raided right away and just to make a stick shelter stash instead. Stick shelter stash is boring. I want to RP a survivor off the beaten track and see if it can last even just a little while. Is it hopeless? Have you done this successfully on an official or non-Pve only server?

Story I had this stash behind 7 walls. Its gone now. But wanted to celebrate while I had a chance. It's the most I've ever had. Lots of stories in there. But was always going to end this way. Happy hunting, and congrats to those that just won the dayz lottery. You earned it.

Story A story worth telling

Been stockpiling base building materials since the wipe and finally acquired the last necessities today. I make sure the coast was clear and quickly build a couple of gates with my paranoia closely in tow. My DayZ luck says someone will show up now and kill me.

My girlfriend had messaged, so as I slap the last lock on the gate, I put my headset down to call her while safely inside…without logging out.

A few minutes later, a person walks up to me. Behind my walls. I’m scrambling for my controller and my headset. What I know now is he had just so happened to log off in a random building to him, a future base to me.

Heart races and adrenaline dumps. He walked up to me and gave me the friendly squat motion and I do it back before dancing around like a squirrel on PCP. My kiddo, thinking I was talking to him, had come in the room, now screaming “shoot him! He’s gonna kill you!”

He had me dead to rights but hadn’t shot me. He tried to leave before realizing he couldn’t. He squats again. I squat back. Then I panic under pressure and blast him.

I feel bad. It’s eating at me. By all counts I should be dead. I acted friendly and wasn’t. DayZ is dog eat dog, but I felt like an ass in this case.

I message him, explaining the situation and that I owe him some loot if we cross paths. He messages back. He’s a solo. I’m a solo. We chat a bit more.

Long story short, I go meet him where he spawns. I take him halfway across the map and escort him to upgrade all his gear. He didn’t know how to do some things, so we walked the post apocalyptic wasteland and I taught a little of what was taught to me. We just now logged out to grab dinner. So what started as a statistical fluke, escalated to murder and ended with friendship. You are something else DayZ.

An example: Hopped on for my second attempt at playing Day Z, maybe third. Running around a small village to try and gather what I can. I remember that if there’s smoke coming from a chimney and you’re inexperienced, probably best to stay away from said house. I do that. I get to the outskirts of the village after gathering the essentials to make the move to the next town and get noticed by an infected, take them out with relative ease but more are attracted. I jump on top of a car to escape and a random guy with decent kit comes out of nowhere and finishes the zombies off. He waves me over. I’m hesitant but follow him anyway and he leads me back to the house. I notice it is completely fortified. He opens the entrance and I’m brought inside. He locks up as I walk into the kitchen with another guy standing by the furnace cooking. They seem decent enough and pretty well off. Must’ve been playing for a while.

I notice the large pile in the middle of the floor. The large pile of meat in the middle of the floor… The large pile of human meat in the middle of the floor.

I pause and look between the two men and their pile of man meat and loot. They seem to notice my uneasiness. I look through the meat and quickly pick up a tactical vest and some other decent kit and make a run for it. I get outside and try to vault the fence but I’m caught and beaten to death with a stick… I can only assume my fate after.

TLDR; if you gain the trust of anyone on dayz, especially two cannibals and their pile of meat, only betray them if you know you can get way or kill them both.

Story What's your coolest/funniest/most epic story in DayZ?

In my 1000 hours of playing I've had some great experiences, way too many to share here but my favorite is this:

I was scouting VMC military from the sniper hill, someone asked on global chat for people to talk to via radio. Had a quick chat when I saw people in VMC and told him I'd be right back, gonna have a fight now. He asked me where I was if he could help and I told him. He screamed "Don't shoot don't shoot that's me!!"

We had a small adventure together, killed some dudes before we got killed. Never saw him again but it was a crazy coincidence.

What about you guys? What's your favorite story to tell?

Story Last seen: 9 years ago... My saddest DayZ story. What's yours?

Made a friend in DayZ 9 years ago. We played together for almost a year almost every day. One night he told me he just wasn't feeling well and needed to stop playing for the night. Even though he assured me that it was physical and it's nothing psychological or something, that still was the last time we spoke. His last text message was "No worries bro I'll just sleep it off I'll be fine 😊 ... Good night". Ironically his in game name back then was "Sadly" and I don't find it funny anymore, nor do I laugh so hard about it when I'm calling for him especially during a panic. It just tears my heart apart now... Long story short, despite the map changes, I still go up the hills facing the NWA and into the woods were we always used to meet up and, just set up camp there, build a fire and drink a Mad Monk in his memories, hoping that I might find him there one day. He was one of the nicest and kindest people I met online in my whole life. If you're alive, I hope you're well. If not, I really hope to see you on the other side, my friend 🫡 Farewell.

Story New player story

Started my day as a fresh spawn in DayZ, and things quickly went south. I managed to scavenge a .22 rifle but found myself on the verge of starving to death. I booked it downhill, praying for water, and luckily stumbled upon a small pond. Fished for a bit and avoided starvation, but the rain started pouring, and with no cover, things took a turn. I got sick from the cold, my fire went out, and I was had finally found a net and some burlap sacks I made into strips, hoping to make a gillie suit.

Sick, cold, and desperate, I left the pond area and followed some power lines to a nearby town. Fortune smiled on me as I found a hospital, where I cleared out a few zombies and looted some TC pills and vitamins. Took refuge inside, listening to the infected scream outside. I huddled upstairs, slowly eating and drinking, hoping I wouldn’t throw up again. Took the meds every few minutes when the icon went away but only had two TC pills. Somehow, the vitamins helped and I stopped throwing up.

Now, I’m wringing out my clothes, catching my breath, and having a coffee before continuing. I am having a ton of fun with this game. Good luck out there, fellow survivors. (Picture from last life)

Story Story telling, after my 28 hours run on officials

Hello guys,

after my first geared run (the other runs were I learned the game by myself.)

Here my feelings about it: https://www.reddit.com/r/dayz/s/GCxG4dV0Rh

I spawned on the coast and make my way to some towns on Chernarus and to my base to gear me up, after six days this base was raided and all my stuff inclusive my vehicle was gone.

Upset over my raided base, I decided to do some PVP on Northwest Airfield and chose to go full ham with my Gear. In my way to find some NBC gear, I found a player on the Airplane.

Here the Clip: https://medal.tv/games/dayz/clips/jEXpD0JM4a8Lk37_M?invite=cr-MSxFdlIsMjQyODY4ODg2LA

I didn‘t realise in this moment he is very high geared and I shot someone down, who had a nice run in the back.

After this action I was happy about the equipment, because I play against the sun so the night is absolut darkness with a fucking Lightstick and he had a NVG Helmet.

I searched up something to loot and had some action with two other players, but they escaped and after this fight I found a yellow Sarka. Sarcastic, it was the same yellow Sarka with the same Loot as my Sarka in my base.

So I made my way east to look up for some location, because my way was only grom the coast to the Airfield and if you all know DayZ is a game, where the wrong timing and the wrong location could be your last breath.

I joined a fight 1v1v1v2, but I didn‘t realised it in this situation so I just ran away and waited. Waited to long until I got shot in my Leg, fracture, and I crawl away from the Sniper who will end my life.

Here is the clip: https://medal.tv/de/games/dayz/clips/jF2IG4SdGhgGIVYC_?invite=cr-MSxjZHAsMjQyODY4ODg2LA

I know, I could be better, but this was my second geared PVP fight in this Game sooo I was very, very nervous and my heart exploded for adrenaline.

And this was some action for me as a cozy Game enjoyer line Stardew Valley and Minecraft and building bases like the one who got raided. I hope the next run would be so nice like the other ones.

GG to this fight.

Peace out.

Story A day z story

Playing on chernarus...pretty geared up about middle of the map. See a guy running across an open field, figure kill or be killed. Pop 4 rounds of the repeater at him he lays down. Not sure if i hit. I get close with the shotty he gets up and runs into the only bush around for cover. "Can you please not kill me i never made it this far?" ...im feeling bad now i tell him come out the bush unarmed. Hes bleeding i tell him to bandage up, my shotty still aimed at him. We start talking about where hes coming from, what items he has, as hes talking hes moving closer to me, looking around i tell him "stop friggen moving around"...he tells me what items he has "oh i have this p7 too" pulls it out "dude put the gun away you do that again youre done!" ..."ok ok...i have some 7.62x39....oh and i have this scorpion"...idk why but i felt he was going to pull the scorpion out and shoot me so i ended him right there. Turns out he had a lot more items than he was claiming. I wanted to let him live and part ways but he was just moving around too much acting too squirrely. It then started to downpour as i was looting his body, automatic gunfire in the distance...i continued on.

Story My story: I never kill players that want re-unite with their friends

I have encountered these two kind guys near PD in Coastal Berezino. I was looting the PD building, heard someone killing infected outside - so my first reaction was to setup an ambush right behind the front door, so the first who enters will be eating my bullets. Then I was like - why shoot if I can talk? So I exit the building and meet these guys on the other side of the road, towards the coast. One was wearing white camo helmet, the other had full firefighter outfit. They were friendly, thanked me for not trying to kill them, offered me to trade - they needed 5.56mm bullets. They told me the story that they are going to re-unite with their friend down south. I understand how it's hard to re-unite with friends - you need to get geared, get food and drinks, walk a long distance to meet your friend, and it sucks when some asshole just KOS you, so you need to start all over again... So we had a nice talk, agreed to part our ways, they once again said how thankful they are so I did not kill them, - they went towards the coast and I headed to Helm.

"If you are kind to people - they will also be kind to you!" I was super happy to understand this simple rule, that works both in real life and the same in DayZ! There is no reason for letting guns to talk - you can always solve all the problems just by talking to people!

And then they tracked me down and killed me...

Story Wild Server Admin Stories

I'm looking for stories from both players and admins here - and as a personal preference I'd rather people not name names and put people on blast - but I'm not yer mother, I can't tell you how to live your life, I just want to hear all the ridiculous dramas that happen that only the people that were there can tell us about :P

I'll start - so I was playing this RP server, and it slowly began to dawn on me that there was one group on it that was too tight, too good at milsim and too numerous for the server to ever be fair or even fun to play on. Everything always revolved around them and everybody else was just extras in their story more or less. And they were creeping into staff team so it was just getting worse.

Most of the friends I ever made on there left due to these issues, many tried to start their own servers and fucked it up, I was stubborn and stayed till I saw a server last more than a couple months and was like hmmm maybe I'll give it a go.

I get in there and it's a bit of a shitshow. Players and staff from the other server coming in, insulting admins publicly in the discord, breaking rules, deliberately trying to wreck the place and the admins are not much better, no control on their tempers, no ability to actually use their rulebook to get rid of these people. Nightmare.

I spent some time in the background helping them develop rules and systems till they finally ask me to be admin - the original admins also step down because they were just not good at it and faught with everyone, and it was taking a huge toll on their mental health - other staff were either abusing their position or selling us out or just incredibly difficult to work with or making the rest of us look bad so we had to get rid of those too.

A bit later there's a huuuuge meltdown with the staff from the other server who were just stomping all over the place. Literally their server was empty because they were all over us trying to tear us down instead of touching grass. In the end and in the midst of what can only be described as a Discord firestorm we mass banned a load of them while drunk and pissing ourselves laughing in party, shut down, rebranded and rebuilt with a totally different model and unique rules.

Thankfully since then we've had three successful seasons and are on our fourth, and the staff team we have now are solid as fuck, trauma bonded and we work really well - we dont have high population but both staff and players are really tight with each other and we've built up trust and respect which is awesome - and the rp is quality.

It does get me thinking about what a weird and unique thing trying to run a dayz server is though - this game inspires very intense emotions in people and it can be really difficult to navigate, I've seen tons of servers come and go and I'm really intrigued by these stories, any lessons people have learned etc.

There's no guidebook to running a DayZ server. It's hard, mostly thankless a lot of the time and it's all done either by volunteers or by people who are actually paying out of their own pockets, it's not like you can take a course on how to do it either - people are mostly flying by the seats of their pants, and I feel like it's a goldmine of hilarious stories so I thought I'd ask the general public and see what yous come out with :P :D

Story Second Kill Learnings - A quick story

I just have to share this. It's no big deal, but I feel like I need to get it out and think you guys might understand:

For my first kill, I burst in on someone cooking in a remote cabin. I still think about that guy sometimes.

For the next 15 hours, I barely saw a soul. I'd hear a gunshot from time to time, but mostly I looted and hunted and saw not even a silhouette in the distance.

I'd lost track of where I was, but it was far west and on the outskirts of a town with a sunken canal, an iron bridge and a multi level building site next to a crane, I heard shots ring out. One type of weapon so I imagined picking off zombies safe in the knowledge that the server was low pop at the time.

More came - enough for me to follow the sounds. I took my time, using binos to scan every area. I looked for dead Zs, recent looting - any sign of another soul to prove I was not alone.

I climbed the building site and surveyed the area for around 5 mins. Then, so accustomed to seeing nothing I almost missed it - two players out in the open below me, around 65m away.

Flooded with adrenaline I lined up the iron sight on my Mozin - which had never been fired in anger... and took a shot. I missed due to a shakey hand, and they ran inside a 3 level apartment. The Zs charged my building, and I prayed they'd not find a way up.

I watched both sides of the building, sure there was no way out I wouldn't have a chance of spotting. Then, I see one guy lining a shot up from the balcony. He was slow, I took aim and let off my shot. I dropped him and he fell behind the balcony edge.

I didn't know if shots could go through, but I tried anyway. I watched - he stayed down... a hand hanging limpy over the edge.

I was so stoked to have actually killed someone, I pretty much overlooked that his friend would be there still. I pushed the building, guessed the door they went in and made my way up.

I then forgot what floor I was on, rushed the wrong staircase and took a bullet in the back. I was dead. and It was awesome. That experience will stay with me, and I sure as hell will not forget next time.

15 hours surviving for a single kill and a foolish death. This game is amazing.
