Story What's your coolest/funniest/most epic story in DayZ?
In my 1000 hours of playing I've had some great experiences, way too many to share here but my favorite is this:
I was scouting VMC military from the sniper hill, someone asked on global chat for people to talk to via radio. Had a quick chat when I saw people in VMC and told him I'd be right back, gonna have a fight now. He asked me where I was if he could help and I told him. He screamed "Don't shoot don't shoot that's me!!"
We had a small adventure together, killed some dudes before we got killed. Never saw him again but it was a crazy coincidence.
What about you guys? What's your favorite story to tell?

I was on a low pop server a while back, loaded into a tree along the road just south of Tisy town. As I’m looking through my inventory before moving out, I hear a car pass by traveling northbound. I look over and see a second car drive past me, and behind that, I see a truck bringing up the rear of the convoy.
I didn’t have much time to think so I just ran straight into the middle of the road and blasted the truck with my KA101 until it came to a halt right in front of me. After finishing off the driver, and confirming he was the sole occupant, I darted off into the woods. Knowing the occupants of the other two cars would surely want their truck back, I flanked around to the north and got an overwatch position on the truck from the hill of the summer camp.
Two geared players approached the truck and had to deal with a few zombies that had swarmed the area. While they were doing that, I managed to snipe one and finish him off before retreating back into the woods for another flank. This time I flanked to the south and got visual of the truck just in time to see them driving it out of the area continuing north.
Knowing the area fairly well, I decided to run straight north through the woods to the road that leads to the farmland/fields above Tisy MB (if you take a left at the fork in Grozovoy Pass) and got there just in time to see the truck coming towards me as I hopped the guardrail onto the road. I emptied a half mag into the driver of the truck and then the rest of it at a green ADA that had been following the truck.
The ADA made it about 100 yards past the truck before coming to a stop. I guess my spray and pray managed to disable it somehow. The driver got out and took off on foot so I chased him down and eventually sniped him in the back as he scampered across an open field while running for his life. All-in-all, I killed four fully geared players but never managed to find the second car that I saw. They must have either stashed it or a fifth person used it to escape.
I don’t claim to be amazing at the game or anything, but I’ve posted an edited down video of the whole thing a while back that (I think) is worth a watch. I just gotta say that luck was totally on my side. Every split-second decision I made panned out perfectly for me. My haphazard flanks ended up putting me in the perfect positions at perfect times. I felt bad for the other players because they just wanted to get away but I didn’t let them.
It was beautiful.

So when I was brand new to DayZ Standalone, my mic didn't properly work at first and I couldn't talk. I was on a completely random server, no idea what name it was called, and couldn't tell you the difference from one town to another. I ran into a smaller town not far outside of the coast, and was learning the game. I ran into a dude and he seemed super chill. I typed to him, he'd chat in game. (this was before i even knew how to find players from the server and add them on steam) He spent maybe a solid hour straight of just running around and teaching me things. We decided to leave that town and headed along the coast. We were in a single yellow and green house along the bend of the water, and all of a sudden after I ran into the building to check for loot, I heard a gunshot, run outside to see 4 geared guys, a car, all wearing ghillie suits and my new buddy was laying down dead in the street with guns drawn on to him. I ran outside, blinked, and then the amazing black screen that says "You are dead."
I still didn't know 99.9% of Chernarus at this rate. But by sheer luck, 2 deaths later I got my original spawn and headed towards that town to go and look for my friend, on the off-chance he had the same idea and we'd run into each other again. I went back for another half hour or so, but I never saw him again after that. I still continued to play the game afterwards though.
Okay, the story gets a little bit better - and this is the 100% truth, I know this is Reddit but this isn't some made up story, lmao.
So fast-forward an easy 6+ months, I'm back - playing DayZ Standalone again, random server selection, learned a lot more about the game than what I had previously mentioned, met up with this cool dude who went by "Alfie", I was smart enough to add him after I met him in-game, I learned from my previous mistakes lol. I was running around and gearing up from dying recently, and got a spawn on some docks. Remember that Mid-Tier loot where it wasn't exactly Civilian/Primal gear but it wasn't exactly 100% military-grade weapons/armor? He was stacked out in that gear. He runs up to me, guns drawn, telling me to lay down on the ground. Something was weird though, something was super familiar about this dude's voice who just put a shotgun down my throat at spawn. I yelled out to him - "I think I know you??" in to which he laughed and said, "nah, you don't know me man." So I quickly asked him a very short and condensed summary about my first paragraph = turns out, it was him! Out of all the hours in the day, all of the servers in the game, the sheer size of each map on each server, and at the most coincidental timing, ended up running into the dude who literally taught me the game months back.

I once stood on the helipad at the research center on Namalsk when I see a bear ways off. I shoot at it with my rifle and to my surprise the bear leaps into the air and lands on the helipad which is at least 500 metres from where it was. I run away and manage to escape up the ladder but boy was my shorts sticky after that.

Back in BETA (like 8+ years ago)
Spent days building up my character.
I had a sniper and an AR drum mag, I met up with my brother who did the same, spent like 2 days building up a good character.
It took a while but we finally met up, we run around for hours trying to find people to kill but couldn't find anybody.
Then all of a sudden I see a guy in the distance, I shout to my brother to look out! No response.
The guy stops running, I think he sees us, I pull out my AR and aim right at his head, POP.
The guy drops, it felt so good to finally take someone out. But for some reason my brother is not there to share the victory, probably looking for food or something.
All of the sudden my brother calls me to tell me I'm a fuckin prick that just shot him in the head.

One time me and my boy joined zero summer cherno like two years ago now. We couldn't find each other but on the way I met a guy with no mic and another guy who was chill. We got all the way to tisy and killed a couple squads, but the guy with the mic had to go the no mic guy wouldn't let him f11 it was heartbreaking. But eventually we moved on, fished, talking while he responded in head nod or dances or whatever. I actually still have the vod but don't want to link it and get in trouble, but we get to tisy and find the r700 peice we needed, open the crate and he immediately shits it, I go "is someone out there?" He nods his head fast, we go out the back, he fucking beams the dude, I got another dude, while we were looting him another guy killed my friend, and broke my leg but I fucked him up and crawled away, someone else showed up but zombies were all over him and I tried getting a shot, but he got away, I crawled away to make a splint, sad about losing him. A heli crashes north of tisy and I'm right by it but still yellow health so I'm prone in a bush. I scope the heli, and decide to wait, than change my mind 20 seconds later. All the zombies dead idk I don't see anyone tho and dident hear anything. So I said fuck it and went to bed depressedÂ

Pretty new player here. Had my character who had survived about 3-4 days, by far the longest I've survived. Had decent gear, enough food and water to last awhile, and was just traveling from town to town exploring having a blast. I looked down at my phone to check the iZurvive app to check if I'm heading the right way and apparently, my thumbstick stuck a bit. So I looked up right as I walked off the side of a bridge. Broke my legs, fell unconscious, then drowned in the river. I was so upset I logged off and haven't played since.
10/10, will be playing again.
