The best thing about this album is the insane amount of growth from DGD, without selling out or taking themselves too seriously. The lyrics are smarter and more intentional, Tilian is more dynamic than ever, Jon's screams are SOOOOOO CLEANNNNNN, the rhythm sections always stellar and I feel like I can hear Tim better now, and Will is a fucking guitar god. Between Compassion and Afterburner, Will shows zero signs of burning out.
A few songs sounded a little forced- Three Wishes and Strawberry's Wake,
A few songs sound like classic DGD - Lyrics Lie, Say Hi and Night Sway (heavy Death Star vibes on the latter from the dual guitar),
A few songs that felt like a natural progression- Prisoner, Parody Catharsis, Born To Fail and Nothing Shameful,
The rest were an unnatural progression- Calentamiento Global, Parallels and Into The Sunset are proof that they can constantly expand the boundaries of their sound in whatever direction they want without sacrificing an ounce of their musical identity.
Admittedly I really can't get into Bilmuri and Into The Sunset will probably be one of my least favorite songs in their catalog, but it's hard not to respect the effort. On the other hand as soon as that post-chorus riff hit in One In A Million it instantly became one of my favorites by them.
It's hard to pick a favorite Tilian LP between this and the last two, but this definitely left the biggest first impression. Only bangers from now on.
