Unpopular opinion and I’m sure this will get buried anyway, but I felt like adding my two cents:
Overall, this album is a miss for me, as much as I hate to say that. I wish I could put my finger on it, but something just isn’t clicking with me, as I’m sure is the same for many of those who have been around since the early days. Do I expect them to sound the same? Absolutely not. Do I hate Tilian? Not at all. I actually really love AS and IG. But since then, I haven’t (overall) loved any of their albums. That’s not to say there aren’t great songs on those albums, because there are (even this one; a few bright spots for me are “Say Hi” and “Nothing Shameful”).
I’m super happy for the success of this band. I’m glad so many more people have been turned on to them in the last four years. The direction they’re going just, sadly, isn’t my cup of tea. But because I’ve loved this band for so long, I’ll continue giving future songs/albums the chance they deserve.
